I thought everyone hated that part of sao (Guns Art Online). Why did the make a whole anime out of it... And what's with the new characters.

It's a spinoff series more dedicated to that game written by the same guy who wrote Kino's Journey, which usually seems to be pretty well received in general. I liked the original GGO arc and so I definitely am not opposed to adapting this spinoff series, but I would've preferred Progressive or Girls Ops instead honestly

Alternative Gun Gale is much better than GGO from the main SAO novel. Better action, gun fight.

GGO was the good arc of the second season though (well minus the villain at least). Mother's Rosario and the short middle arc were the shit ones

But either way it doesn't matter because SAO is a cash cow so there's no reason to not keep making more of it

I thought people loved this part. Personally I love it and think it's the best part of both seasons. Also they introduced Sinon aka best girl, so yeah, best arc. Also Death Gun was a pretty cool villain.

GGO saved SAO II, everything else was just mediocre. I'll have what you're smokin' OP.

I'll be looking forward to this maybe...

Seems pretty clear to me. Sword Art Online is a huge cash cow. The series has never really had any integrity or self-respect, so this is a completely unsurprising move to me.

Wasn't exactly looking for it, but I'll still watch it if the season is a slow one.

For me, the SAO arcs kind of alternated between good and bad

Season 1
SAO - good
ALO - bad

Season 2
GGO - good (kinda, I mainly liked Sinon and the combat... not really the whole Death Gun thing)
ALO Mother's Rosario - Meh (I heard it was a great arc from people who read it, but I don't think it was done well at least in the anime)

Hey guys I feel like this anime won’t be such a downer after all because the writer for the story isn’t Reki Kawahara who wrote SAO so we may have some hope of an OK anime.

I'm just saying that the anime could be good because the story isn't written by the writer of SAO and SAO II.

This could be interesting since GGO was the most interesting game in the series. Not to mention it would be nice to not have to look at Kirito and Asuna being all lovey dovey. Or to just...not have to look at them at all.

SAO is a pretty terrible series in terms of writing, no getting around that. SAO II's GGO arc isn't that much better than either arc of season 1 and just like SAO's first arc, its a goldmine left largely unexplored, so this is very promising. Plus, an all new cast is good since the cast in SAO is largely mediocre at best and even the better characters aren't that good. Basically, this looks like it could be better than the mainline SAO anime.

So this "spin-off" wasn't written by Reki Kawahara but another author? Interesting...

No. It's about a complete other universe in the SAO series. Kirito and everyone else won't be in it.

CURRENT OTPS - Kaito Kid x Shinichi Kudou
CURRENT OBSESSION - Detective Conan
CURRENTLY PLAYING - Spyro | Crash Bandicoot
CURRENTLY LISTENING TO - WRLD: By Design

I don't see why GGO is such a good idea. The mechanics described in the anime make the game sound like a piece of garbage.

ihope this spin off will have more deep thought on the character development unlike the original sao anime where they just throw bunch of character from light novel without explaining their background first which is make it dull and boring

Uhh.... Nope?
In my "2D Culture Anime" experience, spin-off like these will be as much as alike as the story it spin-off from, meaning yeah it might have somewhat of the backstory just like the one it spin-off of.
Not like an entire show just to explain the "flashback" tbh.

I'll be amused to see if this show is better received than the main series, in before Kirito is the problem.

well for me
SAO -> Awful (1)
ALO -> Awful (1)

GGO -> decent (5)
MR -> decent (5)

so I guess better this spin-off o than another sao or alo thing
also no kirito as mc, this one actually can be good

I'm one of the people who thought SAO was a nice watch. Not oustanding but still good. So I'm also looking forward to watching this season.

And while GAO was not as enjoyable as SAO, I'm at the very least looking forward to a new protagonist appearing.

Actually GGO if we talk about the anime is the 2nd best arc of the series, mine would be Mother's Rosario due to a personal reason or peeve of mine. Although I'm curious for the synopsis since apparently the girl will have some kind of problem with her height complex. I'm just gonna guess it'll be kind of like Sinon's, however this will probably be taken in a more realistic approach. Might have to try the novels though, if there's any translations available.

The novel for this one have a diffrent writer anyway, it's the writer of Kino no Tabi (Kino's Jouney). He said that he wanted to make his own story of GGO since he like the concept, and got an official permission for it under the supervision of the original writer. I personally didn't like SAO that much but for this one i'm actually enjoying my time reading the LN, and so far the LN for this are good.

it's a 8/10 for me

My own personal opinons:
Sword Art Online - 6 (Good start, ends very disappointingly)
Alfheim - 1 (Garbage)
Gun Gale Online - 6.5 (Decent)
Mother's Rosario - 6 (Slightly above average)
Ordinal Scale - 7 (Pretty enjoyable)
Alicization - 7.5 (Quite good)
That said, I have high hopes for this spin-off and the third season.
Reki Kawahara seems to be improving though I'd like to see what Keiichi Sigsawa brings to the table

I'm fine with it, as long as it's as entertaining as the main series. It's funny how people become really judgemental when SAO is brought in to the table when there's a lot of shows far worse than SAO.

GGO > Mother's Rosario
MR was pretty boring and they introduced a character just her to die and I find it pretty pointless (it seems more of a side story if anything) and Asuna supposed development only stayed within that story and not outside of it lol, she's the same 'ol damsel in distress we know in love. I don't see why people put MR on a pedestal

I don't see of there's any problem
It's called Sword Art Online,but it's wriiten by different authors,have completely different characters and a different story.
I'll just ignore the three words and look foward to this
Narrator:
We're now at the natural habitat of some of the garbage human beings in the world.
And here,you see one of them is trying to say something intellectual and funny
But he failed.I guess he's too lame to do so.
