By far, the manga is way more better. The manga brings up a lot more content which is important and which the anime does not.

Currently reading it and I can say that it is better. I personally didn't hate the anime, but I felt like it kind of butchered Kaneki's development and made him join Aoigiri for no reason, even though they were the one that kidnapped him and tortured him.

I don't exactly hate the anime (have Season 1 as a 7/10, and Season 2 as a 6/10), but I definitely enjoyed the manga a whole lot more.

The manga is better yes. I found Kaneki way more likeable in the manga. He actually has a personality in the manga so..

Haha I thought it was common knowledge that it was better?

I've only read the manga and not the anime though so I don't have a personal opinion on it

The anime it's okay, but I enjoy the manga more than the anime. I don't like how they did to the 2nd season.

Yeah, it's better
Root A was a disaster, they did a bad job trying to put the whole manga in 12 episodes. And Kaneki is more likeable in the manga in my opinion

TG (original) manga is great and one of my favorites and much better than anime IMO. You should read it if you don't expect a proper ending. Because :re is very poor compared to this.

The anime is awful and the manga is OK. I'm not a huge fan of TG in general.

Yeah, the manga is better. The art in the manga is just heavenly and it has a more dark feel to it.

I think, you need to read the manga first and then watch anime. They work very well this way. Manga definitely handles characters a lot better and being a manga, it can allow itself to be a lot more violent (which is important for this story), but it does have a lot of flaws: pacing, translation issues, certain problems with the amount of lore they give you and also art. And specifically, the art of battles. It's very messy. I often found myself not understanding what the hell is going on and who got wounded, really. Other than that, the story is great and it is definitely worth it. I got a bit tired of it by the end, tough. Volumes 13-14 were hard for me and I think, the ending was rushed.

Anime, on the other hand, is brilliant during episodes 1-6, but struggles from the lack of episodes starting with the second half. 12 is just not enough. 16-18 would have been perfect. It doesn't have manga's flaws, but character development is not as good as it is in manga. Also they toned down some stuff, which is not good for the story.

I say, watch two of them and accept them as one.

The manga is overwhelmingly better than the anime, but if anyone wants to watch it season 1 is definitely the best choice. Root A just ruined major plot points.
On the manga side, I personally love Tokyo Ghoul :re, so if you can, give it a read

Here's an accurate analogy: the anime is a lump of feces while the manga is a bar of gold.

The manga is "fine" for being a manga, but compared to the anime the manga is a masterpiece.

The manga is pure masterpiece! It's a shame it got ruined in the anime format. Wish some better studio should've picked it before they did.

It actually enhanced them. There was absolutely no need for Kaneki to go to all those places, look for Rize and etc.. He became a ghoul, he devoured Rize, she is gone, thus there's no need for him to look for her and answers since he accepted who he is. Looking for answers is needed only when you're in the process of accepting. And don't even get me started on that fan-service of getting Shuu, Kaneki and Banjo to work together, that was simply there to serve as fan-service.
Kaneki became a ghoul not because he wanted to find out who he is, but to save those close to him and make sure they live in a better world. In order to do that he had to become stronger, which includes cannibalism and joining Aogiri. At least, that's what he told himself. In reality it was just because he was sick of people abandoning him and being the one who gets used by others.

WTF. So him actually looking for answers for why he was experimented on and what actually happened is unnecessary? Instead joining the same evil group who tortured you is smart? Not to mention how Kaneki's character was butchered and barely had any dialogue, he was a stupid edgelord

And thats not fanservice at all, it makes a lot of sense for these people to join Kaneki.

Root A is objectively worse

I thought that the anime was good before reading the manga but boy was I wrong, the only good thing about it is the soundtrack, they cut and or altered around 60% of the content from the manga in the first season and almost all of the second season was anime original including the ending, reading the manga now I see that the butchers Perriot have ruined yet another great series (Naruto and Kingdom are some examples).
