Been loving this show since the beginning, but this with this ep. I now think it has the potential to become a favorite. I expected Mob Psycho to be a visual feast, but its emotional impact really took me by surprise. The anger and anguish portrayed in this episode was something else. It's hard to accept you're just an average joe. Also loved the little touch of Mob's brother tightening his grip on the door handle before lying to comfort his brother. The show can be subtle too.

Shigeo really has a nice brother. Now I want to know what exactly happened because that was obviously a lie.

Also who would have thought that the rules Shigeo uses his abilities by came from that fucking fake :D He seems to have some brilliant non-asshole moments every once in a while.

The fight was a bit boring. Mostly because it was so one-sided (in both situations). Kinda want to see Shigeo fighting with his full power again. But as awesome as his unconscious form was I couldn't enjoy it fully because he was fighting so hard against using his abilities to resolve the situation D:

This episode was fantastic and beautifully done. The action looked so awesome. I felt bad for Mob the whole time. Him not wanting to use his powers made sense. My favorite moment is when Teru's hair was cut off and it said 0%. That was so hilarious. I'm very excited for the next episode.

There were too things that made me love this episode. One was the amazing action and animations, the other was how complex Mob's character really is and how he deals with morality.

WOW this episode was so intense & quite emotional for Mob.
Teru is quite crazy, but Mob is on a completely different level.
???% cannot even be measured. That art on his face when he went berserk & the overall animation of the battle was outstanding.

That incident with Ritsu & those bullies really impacted on Mob.

Ekubo gone & Mob didn't really care LOL.

Pretty good episode. Reigan can be a decent teacher without using insults every once in a while!? What a shocker!! Kinda sad to see Ekubo go specially after that little sort of montage of moments he spent with Mob. Definitely sad to see Mob crying 'cause he feels like he hasn't changed... Ritsu though, he still has this vibe to him. When he is with his brother he is a perfect little brother, he seems to envy Mob's powers but appears terrified of the ??? mode. Then again I can't think of people who wouldn't be.

Yeah, for those who have an interest in animation at least, it's pretty much the biggest sakuga "library" out there. Sakuga fans in the west and Japan have taken an interest in the Mob Psycho anime in particular because of the high-profile staff and the very promising previews, and if Sakuga Blog's columns are anything to go by, then the show definitely lives up to the hype in the animation department.

I think they didn't include this because it clashed too much with the cleaner/low-detail artstyle of the episode.

Good episode, The fight scenes were awesome.

It was funny when I learnt that it was Reigen who was telling Mob all the important stuff that forms his current ideology, I expected it since Mob does refer to him as his teacher but it was still funny for some reason xD. Reigen might be a shady but deep down he probably has heart :P

Mob wrecking Teru was just amazing.

It's sad the Mob doesn't value himself with anything apart from his Psychic powers. Teru on the other hand valued himself as the most important guy in the world, In a sense, as Mob puts it, they were both similar. Take away their powers and both of em are nothing.
Mob crying after the fight was sad :(

Wonder what Mob's brother meant when he said, 'It wasn't Mob back then'.

I think the ep really hinted that there's some kinda monster within Mob that awakens when his emotional state reaches ???%.

It's incredibly ironic how the character who isn't the ideal knows more about the ideal than an actual ideal itself (Ritsu). Damn. Really showed that Reikan has a wiseman side, helped show why Mob looks up to him so much.

What an outstanding episode. At first I was a bit bothered by the slightly different art style compared to before, but as soon as things started kicking in I was just mindblown. I don't think I've ever seen better amalgamation of humour, action and dramatic moments than this in an anime before.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

This episode was excellent.

The trhill of the fight, the laughs of the 0% hair, the surprise of the ???% Mob and the most crushing experience of the 100% Sadness.

The feeling of wanted to change and being incapable od that is a soul crushing one. Stay strong Mob.

This episode was a mix of feelings....I was first half episode SCREAMING to mob ''KICK HIS ASS BRO'' but after the Demon transformation and the cry scene i could understand why he didnt want to fight, and i feel a little of shame for wanting it.

Best episode so far.

By the way i have a little theoy. What if Mob is so powerful because he is possessed by an Extreme powerful spirit that is controled by emotion, so when mob gets angry/sad/etc... he is free for a while? who knows

Not much else I can really say that people haven't already said. This episode was near perfect in just about every way. Amazing characterization for both characters, especially Mob.

It really is a shame this is only 12 episodes because I've heard it gets even better later on. Hopefully we can get at least a couple more episodes like this before the series ends.

agreed with the 100% sadness being a bit tone down and i did want to see everything put back to place cuz idk it made everything more depressing. still teared up tho :( that scene is still some of the most epic artwork in the manga but it was done well here too!

all of the scenes with teru were so great, really hilarious. Matsuoka really has done an amazing job voicing him.

bones is not disappointing, they are making a lot of memorable scenes and are doing a good job at getting some of the main themes out there.

Edited for clarity.

The clarity of the sky (implies purity) in addition to the nudity (nudity and shaved head implies unrefinement and the following) and helplessness of Teruki seems to depicts the notion that people that offer little commitment are no better than others when stripped of their innate traits and social status, which is why Mob is working to improve himself and reduce his dependence on psychic powers. The inclusion of the tree (Adam and Eve tree?) in the mid-ground with Teruki suggests the universality of this idea. Teruki's appearance also depicts a humiliating form. It seems to be punishment for challenging this idea. There are also other people in the background, which are clothed. My guess is it shows that everyone is prone to punishment to some extent. Punishment is suggested by posture of Teruki similar to that of the crucificattion posture. Teruki obviously received worst as he challenged this idea directly.

The spoilers don't contain spoilers. They just hide the large images.

The high altitude of Teruki seems to suggest that either realising this is enables a person to gain new heights or only once you reach the epitome of arrogance, you realise it. I am leaning more so towards the latter guess because Teruki is later seen falling back to earth and you know what that saying means.

Mob is forced to use his powers once again to revert the damage he caused. It seems like destruction but he's reconstructing it. A contrast is apparent here. Construction is generally connoted with joy. However, this scene clearly depicts Mob grieving. I believe this contrast is a testament to the tremendous extent of his grief as Mob is deprived of the joy of construction. It is instead the contrary--the source of his sorrow. Tbh, I would have remained apathetic towards Mob's suffering if it wasn't for this scene as it was quite melancholy.

The series is starting to get better. Episode 1 was a 3/10 for me. Episodes 2-4=5/10. Episode=5.5/10.

Japanese sakugafans also screaming "Norio!!!!" when they saw this scene in the beginning of episode. But he wasn't credited in this episode. It's either he did some KA in this episode but uncredited, or it's someone else and Norio is busy with Naruto.

Either way, I'm really satisfied with the animation.

Keiichiro Watanabe's cuts are probably the scene where Mob goes into ???% mode. The animation resembles his work on first episode.

Also, maybe anyone has noticed that the OP is slightly changed, to give hint for future arc. But there's also a piece of animation from the PV that was not used/changed in this episode.

From : https://sakuga.yshi.org/post/show/24870/animated-debris-effects-fighting-impact_frames-mob
To :
https://sakuga.yshi.org/post/show/24862

The first one is drawn by Yoshimichi Kameda, as he already confirmed that all the key animation in the 1st PV was drawn by himself. Probably the cut for episode 5 onward weren't ready at the time, so Kameda himself must fill in for the PV.

Now we have 5 episodes, and Kameda still hasn't touched anything besides episode 1, it might be he's working on latter episodes. Can't wait to see his animation.

Also, Mob Psycho still has another trump card, that's Ayako Hata. I think she will handle one episode as Animation Director, because she also contribute her illustration for Newtype magazine.

Funnily enough the show (as well as the manga) do seem to follow up on the overall theme of punishment after the sky scene, most notably with the Black Vinegar delinquents and their description of what happened to Teruki, going as far as to call it a "brutal execution". Not that it wasn't brutal, mind you, but I still find the choice of words interesting (and funny as hell).

I think both interpretations work just fine in Teruki's case, considering that his demeanor and his words after he gets brought back down to Earth do seem to suggest he's reached a new level of understanding. Plus
