It's not Handa himself, but the people surrounding him that makes this hilarious.

I really liked this episode much more than the first episode.
The humour of the first half of the first episode wasnt exactly mine, but in episode 2 it was just great.
Also especially the part with the model really reminded me of the anime sakamoto desu ga and I just love it xD
I'm really looking forward to the next episodes

One of those comedies which doesn't work with me. Drop. Tbh I started Handa-kun only because it's a prequel of Barakamon. I didn't expect that it will so much different...

This is honestly a lot better than Barakamon imo. The episodes were very hit or miss with that show.

Barakamon is a comedy show, which works with me. Why? Because it's not filled with comedy in every second, and it has some kind of story, interesting characters and setting.
But well, Handa-kun is a Sakamoto-kun-ish kind of comedy, anyone who liked Sakamoto will probably love Handa.

Ok I'm in. The first episode probably shouldn't have started the way it did, it made me worried that there'd be more of that in the future. It seems like it's settled into just being actually about Handa-kun, which is great. It's similar to Sakamoto Desu Ga, only with a better supporting cast and you actually have some insight into the mind of the main character, which just makes things funnier. Although, Sakamoto Desu Ga did a really good job at basing everything around its primary joke, whereas Handa-kun has a lot of more typical anime humor thrown in as well. That could be either a good or a bad thing, depending on who watches it.

I like how the very existence of this anime is a funny joke all on its own, which is reflected in the OP. What the hell would a Barakamon prequel even look like? I can't imagine what a serious prequel would even be about, and they tease at that so much by just making it ridiculous and crazy. I wonder, after finishing this, what it will be like to rewatch Barakamon? Probably not much different, but I'm sure this anime will be on my mind at least a little :)

I'm sorry, but this doesn't work at all.

Barakamon prequel? It's not even a decent comedy.

The directing sucks ass too.

This show is horrendous and is an insult to even be associated with Barakamon.
I'm going to give this one more episode to turn the tables for me but...I don't have much faith.
and yes, I am the one person who gave this episode a 1 out of 5.

I don't even associate this with Barakamon, those two shows are completely different, Barakamon is a wonderful SoL story about growing up and learning to better yourself with comedic moments made great by the loveable cast, this is just some mediocre comedy based on dumb misunderstandings with nothing to really care about.

I wonder if Handa-kun is ever going to be anything more than a shit version of Sakamoto.

Much better and funnier. Still don't like how it basically uses the trademark of Barakamon since its a completely different thing but its a decent show in its own right.

i don't get what's supposed to be funny. it's just stupid misunderstanding after stupid misunderstanding that could easily be fixed if he opened his mouth and wasn't a dense twat. seriously, people are talking positively about him in 2 seats away, and he thinks they're bad mouthing him? terrible.

This is probably worse than the first episode. I'm going to get a ton of hate from the rabid fangirls and fanboys of this series. Makes one wonder how this timid high school overhype turned into an ass later on during his professional calligraphy career. They seem like total opposites and yeah I know people change over the years. I don't understand why people worship him, he has no redeeming qualities other than being extremely talented in calligraphy. It makes no fucking sense.

A lot of the comedy here is forced, none of it flows naturally and Handa-kun misinterpreting and coming to all sorts of wrong conclusions is such an overused trope. I'd rather see him do actual calligraphy than watch some girl with macrocephaly fight over a bitchy school idol for Handa's attention. It would be better to see how he started calligraphy, his struggles and his rivals in the industry than some stupid regurgitated high school setting where all the comedy is pathetic and shoved down our throats.

"Oh boy, how is he going to screw this up" is what I went into this thinking. It was better than I imagined but worse then I hoped. The part with the chairperson was pretty entertaining

This anime doesn't live up to my expectations, as in, it's not as good as Barakamon, but it's not bad. It reminds me of Sakamoto but instead of doing everything fabulously and with inhuman amounts of style, it's misunderstandings and people over thinking everything because nobody understands Handa at all and everyone's an idiot. Happy to have gotten an explanation as to how the heck Handa got popular, that confused me.

They'd better come up with something more than just the misunderstanding soon.

I've seen others already make this comparison, but boy does this feel like the bizarro version of Sakamoto and I can see it getting old real fast and it's all kind of making me sad since I loved Barakamon and was really excited about this series before I knew anything about what it actually was. That OP, though...

I disagree with people giving high amounts of praise for this. I wouldn't say it's good, but so far it's not really bad either. Comparisons with Sakamoto Desu ga? are definitely viable. However, I think Sakamoto handled bizarre situations very well and it had a heart. I'm going to trust the manga readers who say this is worth it.

At this point: Barakamon >>>> Sakamoto Desu ga? >>> Handa-kun

Awful. I'm done. No Ono Daisuke, and the show isn't even funny. It's like a poor man's Sakamoto-kun, without any of the charm and wit. I can deal with it not being anything like Barakamon, but when the show fails as a comedy, what's the point? Biggest disappointment of the season.

Wth this went from 4 to at least 7.5 this episode. The annoying characters aren't so annoying after-all. I laughed a few times. This gonna be a better ver of Sakamoto for sure, guess I will forgive them for changing Handa's seiyuu, he was much better this ep

I can't be the only one that thinks that "Handa-Kun" is a MUCH better "Sakamoto desu ga?"

That's funny, I was actually thinking the same thing, but opposite. At least in Sakamoto there was the element of surprise, constantly guessing what Sakamoto was going to do. Handa-kun's character is just a lot more... boring than Sakamoto.

Tactical mind games and misunderstanding of rock-paper is hilarious. Handa-kun is interesting and has similar personality as me.

I don’t know how I feel about this anime… I think I’d enjoy it more if it wasn’t a spin-off of Barakamon.

The problem here is definitely coming from Barakamon and expecting some kind of similarity… Handa-Kun inevitably disappointing because the two are nothing alike. They’re so different that I wouldn’t even consider them of the same franchise.
