What podcasts do you listen to and what made you start listening to them?
I don't think some people get the sophistication towards a good podcast.

I listen to a few but they're all originally youtubers lol. I don't even know where you would find a good comedy podcast that actually has a focus. They seem to be a dying breed.
The ones I listen to are:
If I Were You Show: An "advice" podcast run by two of my favourite comedians of all time, Jake & Amir.
Cox 'n Crendor: Two funny dudes with polarizing personalities goof around and search the news for ridiculous and funny stories.
Let's Drown Out: Kindof a podcast, Yahtzee of zero punctuation fame and his friend Gabe talk about the gaming industry and fight like an old married couple.
Retsucast: The two guys from Retsupurae just talk for about an hour, not as funny as their youtube channel but I like them enough to listen on occassion.

This American life, serial, Star talk, and a few others, but the three I listed are my favorites.

I am not sure how one would need to "get the sophistication" of a good podcast. Listening to pretty decent ones doesn't really require a higher level of taste or intelligence.

Some of the ones I listen to do require at least a little knowledge within the realm of physical and biological science (pretty fun to listen to as an engineer), but the three I stated above are very well detailed and don't require higher knowledge.

I do... before anime...

I listen to a gaming podcast called the "The Co-Optional Podcast" hosted by TotalBiscuit, Dodger and Jesse Cox...

I just started listening to them because I watched their Animated shorts... lol.

--

Now, after anime...

I listened to Podtaku....but now that it is gone...

I listen to Anifix, hosted by TheCanipaEffect, RussAnime, and GlenLovesAnime...
They're my favorite anime podcast(even with Podtaku still around)... They're funny and Glen's knowledge of anime is topnotch(well according to his list he has watched over a thousand anime now) which makes it somewhat informative.

Also, I now listen to a newly formed podcast called Anime Association. It has Under the SCope Reviews aka Jack which is my favorite anime reviewer in YT.

I guess I want my daily fix of anime information and opinions.

I wouldn't mind finding some comedy podcasts either.

I do listen to the Ricky Gervais show all the time because Karl Pilkingtons musings are great. I wouldn't really say it has an aim, it's just all about the execution of the comedy.

I wanna try hardcore history and common sense sometime too.

It's funny last year i tried listening to podcasts more often, and started running into podcast groups that happened to quit podcasting altogether. Favoring their youtube career more or for other reasons.

Currently the Only one i try to Frequent is the Co-Optional Podcast With Totalbiscuit, Jesse Cox, and Dodger

I've been listening to every pod of the Drunken Peasants for about one and a half years now. They're fun. I sometimes manage to stay up late so I can catch it when it's live.

I made two video thumbnails for them on YouTube too. If you know me, you can probably guess which at least one of them are.

I like to listen to Dan Carlin every now and then. It's easy to get addicted to his Hardcore History series, and his Common Sense ones are really good too. I also enjoy listening to The History of Rome and The History of Byzantium. These are all great podcasts that are comprehensive and engaging if you're into history.

The first podcast I listened to was probably Rooster Teeth's regular podcast. I explored other podcasts because of it. I was thinking, "this is an interesting format!"
I listen to Serial, Criminal, and Rooster Teeth's Off-Topic. So, mainly crime or comedy.
I often struggle between listening to music or to podcasts - music wins most of the time. OTL

Yep, been listening to podcasts since I used to had a PSP/Playstation Portable with setting up the rss feed on there back in the old day. I used to download IGN, Science Magazine podcasts on there, and I used to download ANNcast aka Anime News Network podcast on there too before I no longer used the PSP. After I no longer use my PSP, I listened to podcast by other mean like Youtube, Spotify, or a website. Ever since Spotify added podcasts in 2015 and technology evolved for people to listen to podcasts on smartphones or however they listened to it. I listen to podcasts mostly on Spotify, and some on Youtube.

Like for example, I started to listen to old radio dramas via this website, Relic Radio. At that same time, I got into listening to audio drama/fiction podcasts like science fiction and horror podcasts and superhero fiction podcasts like for example I've listened to Batman: The Audio Adventure on HBO Max (when I used to had it before I lost my subscription), then on Youtube:

That got me wanting to listen to more audio drama podcasts like Batman: Unburied on Spotify:

I've already listened to Wolverine: The Long Night, and the 2nd season, The Lost Trail.

Last year, I've already finished listening to an audio drama podcast based on Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross's Marvels. And yes, I'm currently listening to Marvel's Wastelanders on Spotify:

I've been listening to other audio drama podcasts on Spotify, the one that I've came across like for example, Passenger List, We're Alive, Welcome to Night Vale, etc...

Beside audio drama, I still do listen to non-fiction podcasts like Science Magazine, Nature, and I do listen to true crime podcasts like Serial, and stuff like that. So yes, I still do listen to podcasts even to this day.

There's this french podcast about 4 dudes in their 40s talking in some cave under an internet café that's been going for more than a decade.

They never got really popular, but keep going nonetheless.

I dig the fact they're proud to be ripping their audience off and insulting them with barely prepared content.

They're goofballs for the most part, even if you get to actually learn about some tech news between two stories about people doing insane shit with their holes.

It's a bit like having a beer with boomers into IT, talking about their kids and bad teeth issues.

It's called Apéro du Captain, even if most of you probably won't listen to it (not translated in any way, they barely know how to keep a posting schedule).

Dude's called Captain Web, and his site's been this way for ages lmao.

Love them.

PS : a good part of their guests work in porn, also. Super nice peeps.

Have you ever tried listening to audio drama @Moonspeak? The reason I asked is because that's what I liked about podcast, they're a good way to revive radio drama (which has been almost dead in the USA, and probably most of the world ever since the creation of TV). Audio drama podcasts had seen a big jump in the US and probably worldwide since 2019/2020 thanks to the pandemic, and well I guess there are people that wanted to try something different other then watching TV or movie/films. I've been listening to audio drama ever since I listened to Batman: The Audio Adventure. Maybe you can try to listen to audio dramas. I mean anime/manga do get audio drama adaptation or tie in (usually released on CDs, but I don't know about podcasts).

Not yet.

Most of what I'm listening aren't fiction, novels, dramas, stories etc, I'm more into having a bunch of people having fun, or experts in some topic talking about what they know.

I could try someday though, why not.

I feel like I prefer to read physical copies of books to dive into tales, maybe that's just the habit or nostalgia or the feeling of the object, but there you have it.

I love reading books too (along with reading graphic novels) @Moonspeak, but there's something about audio drama that draws me into listening to it when it comes to plot/storylines. That's why I listen to it, you can't see it or you can't feel the same thing as you can find reading in a book.
