| Tales of Anno actually hating otaku are probably rather exaggerated. But then, I haven't read many of his interviews. I think he dislikes the culture they represent though, which I suppose is essentially the same thing. |

| I really don't understand the people hating on Eva for the 'asspull' ending considering it happened simply due to a budget shortage, *it was not an intentional decision by Anno*, and End of Evangelion was created to properly end the story. I personally like to think that the last two episodes never even existed. |

The various sorts of trolls drawn in and the easy baiting in the place obviously haven't helped. So it does come to that point where people get sick and tired of it all and just lash out at the slightest provocation. Tl;dr: the priests are the perfect example in that they've continually had to deal with similar discussions/arguments/questions, and they've also internalised a lot of that - not to mention they love the work and have thoroughly tread the grounds before, so when they come back to the similar sorts of discussions, it's hard for them to avoid the haughtiness and presumption that comes with their position. Likewise, people will take that negativity and the rabid fanboy label becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's unavoidable in many ways. It's also unavoidable for my summaries to become longer than the tl;dr itself. |

Also, I actually liked the last two episodes, and I think disowning them takes away an interesting part of Eva. But it is rightfully part of the show, so people can rightfully take issue with it. |

Exactly, the tone and content of the last two episodes are a letdown after all that buildup in episodes ~18-24, even if the themes are still there and work. The movie fixes this by giving us some of the most unique directing I have seen in anime alongside the themes present in the last episodes. |
