I was in a bit of a fit after reading this chapter, but actually sitting it out and thinking about it, I'm glad the author decided to give the victory to Hayama. Not that Souma deserved to lose, but it was his for his own benefit.
I do believe what Souma lacked was that he didn't necessarily have his own "style" and he didn't pour his heart out to somebody that he wanted to exceptionally cook for, after all, that's what his father said.
Hopefully we get to see Souma truly evolve and later on take top seat somehow >.>

Gotta agree with this one. Soma losing is good for his character, That was my main problem with Soma his a cool MC but the fact remains that he's just a poor copy of his dad.His skills and knowledge about cooking came from his Old man, so with this loss he'll hopefully realize that following his father's footsteps (subconsciously) won't make him a better cook cause the only thing he'll end up seeing is the persons back.

He needs to find his own path, his own set of wings.

DAYYYUUUM Air Gear really did taught me a lot of stuff xD

As true as this is, I'm still kinda bummed about it. Argh! That said, I really enjoyed the arc overall, looking forward to a bit of a breather before the series jumps into its next one. And Soma's development will be interesting to see.

Very intense and close match but it was Hayama who came out on top.. Great win for him..

Well Souma got the respect he deserves and he learned something valuable from all of this so this match is not for naught..

Great ending for this arc.. Looking forward to the next!

Honestly, Souma's cooking this little fight felt a bit lacking so I saw it coming.

I get what they're trying to say.. it's still too early for Souma to get a specialty yet.
But still it leaves quite a bad aftertaste for him to lose for the first time among his peers.
With this Hayama would probably step down for now.

Well I definitely don't mind Souma losing Wanted him to make Erina go dere already though <_< so that sucks But the way they did this chap was stupid. Just giving us a flashback while announcing the winner. Imagine how much of a troll it would be if Akira didn't win even with that lol

Loved Souma's reaction to the loss though. He just cared about Director's last words and not about losing. Love this guy.

Great outcome, this is certainly unexpected at least for me. I shouldn't have believed those winning flags. Also I learned both Hayama and Ryou have a person/woman to cook for. It's something Souma's dad mentioned and Souma doesn't have anyone. They got me, lesson learned. Now I wonder what specialty Souma will have and who's gonna be 'that' person.

They should have named the winner first then showed the flashback. It was obvious when they showed Hayama flashback that he was going to win.

I agree with this. Hope the anime do something about it.

Why didn't they put the flash back AFTER the victory declaration. it's pretty obvious who's going to win if you use a fucking flash back saying "LOL THE WINNER HAD A SOB BACKGROUND STORY THAT'S WHY HE WON LO LOL"

Hayama's flashback was really well done and he deserves the win. It shows how he finally made a name for himself when in the beggining he didn't even have an actual name. Hayama being grateful to Jun for giving him a chance and that chance brought him all the way to becoming the winner of the elections. Souma, better luck next time. I'm sure he's gonna defeat Hayama someday.

YES

He deserves it, I loved his flashbacks & no matter what he says I'm sure he sees Jun as his mother. They're a great duo. That was overall a great arc with a good conclusion, loved the new characters minus Hisako & can't wait to see what Souma is gonna learn from this.

Akira did well. I'm proud of him. Three underdogs without a big name or background made it all the way to the final round :)
