How do you feel about the way Shokugeki no Souma ended?

I myself feel that a lot of concepts were kinda shoved into the end to sort of show that "this is the real deal" for the millionth time.
Saiba Asashi (?) was a pretty cool character I guess.
Nakiri Mana (?) I feel would've done a lot better if she was established earlier on in the manga.
The knife technique thing also could've done better if it was established earlier.
Maybe it's cause I would sort of read in-between stuff in my day but I don't know how I feel about the pacing.

Other than all that, it seemed pretty strong for an end to such a big series.

What are your thoughts?

not very satisfied but it's better than nothing. here I still wonder whether erina ended up with souma or not. with that ending, at least they give us hint that there is something going on between both of them.

really did not like it.

i can see what they were trying to do and why they did it but a lot of the decisions felt rushed. also the final chapter did barely any resolving and felt more like a tacked on bit of nothing then actual plot. also some of the future stuff made no sense with what characters were doing or how the school changed. there were some good elements but for me it was too rushed and too little happened in the epilogue

hope the anime changes the ending and gives it a more satisfying conclusion that ends things on a good note rather then the rushed mess the manga was

Completely shit. From ntr to incest? I think the manga receive lots of negative backlash for the ntr that author decided 'oh its not ntr, its actually her half brother'.
It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person.

I just finished the manga after I took a break in the promotion exam arc. I returned to it and discovered it ended.

Why I quit? I guess the reveal that joichirou is soma’s father got me excited but it was I ended up a bit bored and wasn’t excited as much about the manga and story.

But I wanted to end it. And I did.

I think the promotion exam was good overall. I did like the conclusion though I have to say that I feel like some battles felt to me a bit rushed and the story overuses flashbacks to some extent 😅

They should have showed more of their training before the final clash with the elite ten.

I guess I don’t have much problem with central arc and promotion exam arc overall.

About the story after that I guess I have some issues.

I think that Asahi was necessary to the story.
The things that I find issues with are the super powers.
They did introduce those but we as readers didn’t really thought of them more than normal manga absurdity.
I guess introducing “supers powers” like that without any proper build is idiotic. I’d prefer that there wasn’t any super powers to begin with. But I guess that the writer just didn’t know what to do next.
I think that introduction of the Black Chief was a bit over the top too.
I think another rival school to tosuki could be interesting.
I think the biggest issue with blue arc is that it was rushed and it was predictable.
I guess that even promotional exam arc was predictable to an extent.

Asahi was fine but I think the whole super powers shtick ruined it him. After all without the super powers he isn’t really interesting. Also making Yukihira the only without so called super powers when it hinted that Takumi Aldini was a bit stupid. It like they were trying to force Yukihira into the place of the underdog.

I guess the issue wasn’t making soma the 1st or Nakiri the headmaster even maybe it changed the interactions a bit. The issue is that the story got to the top during the promotional exam and after that they needed to top it which is hard and they failed and got repetitive. To look original they added “super powers” and the chain saw which is ridiculous.

I think that the final match between Erina and Soma was a bit disappointing. I think they should have gone with more traditional match when Erina faces soma head on.

I would have like to see Soma actually beat his dad. The fight between Takumi and Soma shouldn’t have been off screen and mentioned in flashback. Actually they should have shown a little more serious rivalry between soma and friends.

After this complaining and I like to complain I think this manga was still really good. Yes the blue arc wasn’t as good as it was supposed to be.
I still think this show deserves a praise and it is great.
I think that it’s not so easy to get person hooked with a show about cooking. It did gave me a lot of fun and characters that I liked to follow.

I think the after story was good and I liked to see how the characters we followed ended up. Asahi being Azami’s son was weird but I guess that both of them being obsessed with Jouichro Saiba kinda made it make sense 🤣

Still this part was weird especially the marriage thing which was stupid but I guess it was good because it shows that asahi took jouchiro’s meaning the wrong way.

I loved to see the story how joichiro met tamako. I think it was cute love story. I guess having no conclusion on this part is a bit disappointing on one hand but it also fine. Especially that they teased that Nakiri could be in love with Yukihira.
Though I guess megumi is an option too but it left to our imagination.

I guess ending it in Yukihira was the best way to end it.

I think that story really complete only after the three additional chapters 😊

from comedy show to worst drama and romance show

1. same thing dealing with (nakiri family: mother , half brother) (again) and souma going to save erina (again).

2. villain out of nowhere that is too op and annoying and able to defeat (jouichiro 5-0 (should be the final boss (obstacle) that souma have to face , and also defeated both 3 - 0 eishi and megumi without analyzing or describe the dishes just straight up results)

3. after all of the building in erina's character development went waste why? just because the villain change her mood!? what is the point of building character development? (took takumis' dish and threw it in the TRASHCAN ,didn't TRUST souma and want souma to LOSE against the villain in the blue tournament)

4. the villain made proper advances towards Erina and wants to marry her and actually put his hands on her before. Soma hasn't even come close to doing the same (the villain keep flirting with erina and has more moments with erina (he carried her while she was unconscious, spending time with her in the office having some tea bring her roses bouquet , kidnapped her)

5. the villain kidnapped erina and let her go later and she didn't took any action like sue him or put him under arrest for what he did !?

6. the villain has one of superpower BS (the ability to gain the chef's skill when he takes their main chef tool, an example is if he takes saibas knife he gains all his years of experience as a chef and adds it to his skill).

7. the villain makes soma look like a TRASH in the TRASHCAN in the first challenge.

8. what erina did something useful in the blue arc? NOTHING

9. the power of the rice was too strong that able to defeat the OP villian and when erina ate the rice, half of the kitchen was destroyed (foodgasm)

10. yuki morosaki was not involved in the blue arc (Morisaki is the brains of all the recipes used in the series. The series officially lists her as a "collaborator").

11. removed 70% of cooking from the manga (entire cooking sequences skipped meaning showing only results)

12. evil dark chefs mafia and clowns and cooking with some kind of a weapon (making whipped cream with CHAINSAW and baking with DYNAMITE and more)

13. foodgasm and the art style (manga) was no longer interesting in the blue arc

14. the usage of the characters are not that emphasize so much compared to previous arcs.
the story just revolves on the protag and the antag.

15. Erina's mother finally who's the judge in BLUE. She's even colder than Azami towards Erina and she doesn't accept her food (dealing with nakiri family again and also with her tongue issue again)

the LAST 3 chapters of ( le dessert ):

16. erina who just woke up from her nightmare WON the blue tournament without any efforts.(showing only results )!!!? so who is the protagonist again of this series souma or erina??? soma travelled when he lost to erina in the blue tournament because of his mood

17. in (CH 315.2) the author be like: i can fix that, all of sudden it turns out that the annoying villain which is out of nowhere is actually half brother of erina (the one who WANTS TO MARRY ERINA (HIS SISTER) ) !!?

18. the annoying villain (asahi: half brother) became part of nakiri family (CANON) with more screen time and better ending than souma, while souma still friendzoned

19. in the final chapter the author decided to make some progress (souma x erina) in the epilogue !? which u didn't have time to make progress when u r at the final stage (epilogue) instead of ending up together like FMAB,Bleach ... , they skipped (9 YEARS) and showing us in ambiguous way that they (begin) to realize their feeling using (inner monologue instead of speaking) !?

20. not even showing souma's new skills after what he learned from travelling or the dish that he's about to serve in the end instead we got disgusting food like really what the point of travelling.

21. open ended cliffhanger without a proper closure, both in terms of cooking and romantic
relationship. (The End)

(ch 315.2) we only got little backstory about souma's mother. the only interesting thing in (le dessert) was the backstory of souma's mother .

with all nakiri family members including asahi sit down together and enjoy their meal, Happily ever after.
(blue arc and le dessert): was all about erinas mother, father, half brother and grandfather
(Shokugeki no Erina)

missing objectives:

1. i will make you say delicious? never said delicious (infront) of souma like she admitted
2. i will run the restaurant after the graduation?keep travelling instead of running his restaurant
3. taste of love (CH 52.5)? she still didn't taste it
4. i will surpass my father? author: but through asahi of course

so any good thing about next season? well imo the only good part was :

when souma said: she's mine (erina)
the scene in the balcony at night (shipping moment souma x erina but not that romantic)
finally souma's mother backstory which was the best of all

in the interview:

1. he added the villain to make some progress between (souma x erina) what progress ?? more like character regression . in the previous arcs he already made some progress between them without adding third party (villain).

2. he said “Soma has all these cute girls around him, and all he cares about is cooking—why can’t he act more like Asahi?” is Tsukuda seriously trying to justify Asahi's existence as something that Soma should be??

so what is souma's role again ?
ah yes to save erina again

A mess, well the story itself is already sunken so low ever since Azami arc ended, so from the start i didn't put my hopes high but looking at this story i ain't gonna follow Tsukuda's series anymore.

The big problem was the Blue arc, the last arc. The reason I keep reading this so I can see Soma making Asahi eat shit and take Erina. I got what I wanted, but the buildup was...huh?

When I saw the amount of chapters left when starting the arc I knew something doesn't feel right. I was like, "How can you fit such a massive arc in that amount of chapters?" And guess what, it was fast-paced story telling of course!

Everything was so fast-paced. Compared to the Fall Classic where it takes a couple of chapters to finish a meal. Here, a chapter per gate. They removed the cooking and went straight to the tasting. And let's not forget the "other" big problem, the superhuman ability.

Everything was realistic...until this happened. How the hell can you cook something with a chainsaw or how can you instantly have the power of any chef depending on the knife your using? It's just a damn knife, you slice ingredients it's not cooking food, so how does that work?

The climax was fine, it got me hyped.

The final bout was kinda romantic and the line "The tower got naked" during that was hilarious.

Le Dessert was good depending on how you look at it. If you just wanna see them live a good life and you're a heavy shipper of Erina x Soma (me), then this is just the ending for you. But if you wanna see the promises and the reasons why they keep moving forward, then sorry you're not gonna see that.

Asahi becoming a Nakiri because turns out he's Erina's half-brother is weird. At least the NTR iceberg is gone, so ship keeps sailing.

TL;DR
Blue Arc, good concept, execution could've been better.
Le Dessert, satisfying and not at the same time.

A bit dissapointing i felt like soma was not the main the last arcs most events revolved around erina and i sort of hated the part of her and asahi since it was way to forced and soon but now i just dont care ill change my rating from 9 to 7. I wanted to give it 6 but the first part of the manga was very good.

haha man i agree i mean why was it so hard for them to end it with them togheter? or at least with her sayin delicious -.- . I sort of got used to bad endings but this was harder to take since i was sure that some events were supposed to happen but did not.

The plot twist Asahi turn out to be Erina's half sister is probably because
the author receive backlash from shippers to undone the NTR. End of my Shokugeki NTR rant.
17. the villain has better ending with more screen time than souma
18. in the final chapter the author decided to make some progress in the epilogue !?

3. souma x erina not canon (but they will eventually (use imagination) ,
4. made some romantic progress (in the epilogue)!? by using (inner monologue instead of speaking)!?
5. never said delicious infront of souma.
6. souma keep travelling instead of running his restaurant.
7. not even showing soumas new skills after what he learned from travelling

or should i say what the point of souma been in this series? like really??

in the end (Shokugeki no Erina):

Happily ever after, the end.

missing objectives:

saying delicious?

i will run the restaurant after the graduation ?

taste the love (CH 52.5)?
she still didn't taste it

Pretty garbage, the superpowas were dumb and underdeveloped. Only a very subtle closure to the maybe romatic relationships etc.

Taste the love?! what was dat again?

they set up so many promising storylines and conclusions at the start of the series:
Souma making Nakiri say his food is good
Souma vs Aldini
Souma and Nakiri romance
Souma beating his dad
and so on...
and then failed to add a satisfying ending to any of them except the first... When his dad got beat by the other guy that was just a ruining moment as well. It failed to tie up all its stories, which truly was its failure as an ending

Despite hearing what the ending will be, I have to say after reading the ending of the manga myself, I am more disappointed than ever. The writer kept building the anticipation until it's all blown away with an open ending. This is not fair, and the excuse he gives that there was no space for him to make a wedding happen because of the lack of funding does not justify what he did. There are hundreds of possibilities from which he could join them together in marriage and make Erina say "delicious" finally.

Utter garbage, aside from the romance between Souma and Erina since I am a massive shipper on deck, they left the titular protagonist in the background on the last chapters, and didn't give him a satisfying conclusion, he never dueled and won against Saiba, we do not see him graduating, and we do not see him banging Erina.

Such a terrible way to end a potentially amazing series. If they kept the competition school-related and ended it with him graduating, I think it would've been much better even if it would be predictable.

at the start the father say something about if you want to create a good dish first you must find one person who you trully want he/she feel very statisfied without a word everytime he/she eat your dish but in the end he still don't know who that person nor he know how to make a food fit only for the person who taste it.

It was lovely to see none of the characters were wasted towards the end. The Asahi is a Nakiri part felt a little thrown randomly into the plot. Also, the wild Yukihira goes on a trip and low-key leaves while implying Erina is waiting for him the whole time made me slightly frustrated. Grateful for all the food knowledge that was taught throughout this series. The ships are all implied instead of directly shown, but I hope the characters got together in the future.

It sucks ass, food porn should've ended in s4, the final battle between soma and erina was a cool concept but the author decided to blueball us because i dont think he thought of how he wanted to end it

Also what is the point of this entire story if the way soma develops as a chef is leaving the school and traveling the world anyway? that would've made a way more interesting story than what this series turned into post s2
