Reading quite a few for variety..

1. Sono Hana 1-8
2. Violated Hero 1,2 & 3 (Gotta love 'em Monster Women)
3. Parfait - Was told Ironically by my Japanese language tutor to play this to brush up on my studies, even though he's against loli and eroge.
4. Kotori Love ExP
5. Swan Song
6. YU-NO
7. Men at Work! 2
8. Cum On! Bukkake Ranch!
9. Guilty The Sin
10. Da Capo Seasons
11. Injuu Kangoku
12. Phantom of Inferno
13. Private Nurse

I don't usually stick to one VN/Eroge for long hence the rather long list. A couple of them like Da Capo Seasons aren't translated as well...

This is so very long especially with some of the uncontrollable game overs... It's a great game, I do enjoy the amount of time it wastes while still managing to keep me entertained.

"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

Kamidori alchemy meister

I've just began to read it today. Hopefully, it will be easier to play through than Yumina the Ethereal which I've stalled because I can't even finish the first real battle in the war.
So far, the only VN with gameplay elements that was easy enough to understand for me, and which I've therefore played through, was Eien no Aselia. I'm hopping that Kamidori will turn out to be similar in that matter.

Else, I'm also reading a short novel called MaySky just to have something to read in case I'm stuck at the gameplay elements.

Yumina's gameplay just looks weird for the first few minutes, after that it's super simple
In fact the biggest problem with the game was that the combat was too damn easy in general

For me it doesn't just look weird, but rather is weird. I'm still confused as to why my character (especially the attacker) suddenly doesn't take any action, since unlike in Eien no Aselia, there isn't a simple number with potential actions attached next to it during my turn but instead I need to pay attention to some stupid gauge at the top and even when fulfilling the conditions there is a chance that the system will just ignore my attacker's turn.

Well, I was not trying it out for the gameplay, but rather because I've heard/read it was interesting as a novel.

Well you've got a fixed number of skill points to spend per turn which is generally on the lower end compared to what your party could spend together, so you might have to pass with some chars in order to use others. Also each of the four party members have their own color attached to their skills, which indicate what kind of resource it costs. The overall resources are always the same, so spending x amount of Red will also increase the other three by x/3 each. This should also be taken into consideration regarding which order you use your characters in etc so you can drain and replenish resources for your other chars as efficiently as possible.

In some fights there is also an approval rating mechanic where just beating your opponent won't give you victory, but you have to win in style in a dominant fashion in order to get voters for the student president council election.

And then there are the standard RPG stuff with maps, skill trees and itemization etc but they're very normal and intuitive. That's pretty much it really.

Yeah, I've figured that I need to switch attackers but that still doesn't make me win in the first real battle while I've managed the pre-fightings with ease, because at least there weren't that many enemies on a single battle.

In some fights there is also an approval rating mechanic where just beating your opponent won't give you victory, but you have to win in style in a dominant fashion in order to get voters for the student president council election.

I'm already failing at just beating the opponent on the first 3v4 fight.

Maybe they might have been intuitive even for me if I had taken my time to read the explanations carefully, however my main goal was to just go through the story.

Just finished reading Narcissu yesterday (I cried ;-;). Right now I'm reading Tsukihime; finished one route and am going through a second.
I also have Katawa Shoujo on hold (2 routes left to read), because it has a vast emotional impact on me, and I'm waiting for a week in which I have lots of free private time so I can read through it all at once... Reading only once a week just weakens the feels for me ;(
After I finish Tsukihime, I'll go on to read Fate/stay night. I already got a copy of the limited edition waiting by my computer :D (As for why do I already have a copy of the limited edition even though it'll take a while before I can read it... there actually is a story behind it, but it's quite uninteresting. xD)

EDIT:
I'm kind of braindead now because it's 3 am and I need to sleep and I can't even make myself focus enough to proofread my comment. I'm sorry if I said something nonsensical. D;

Let me tell you this straight: this is not a VN where you can simply choose every girl or the majority of it directly like in Shuffle!, Yukizakura (Snow Sakura) and similar, typical Ren' Ai titles.

Basically, if you don't want to drop it frustrated like I used to have because the same things seemed to happen all over again, you should simply take that walkthrough provided by the translators word to word.
If you have a specific question I can help you out, since I've already finished it with the walkthrough.

@ topic: the only VN I'm currently actively reading is Grisaia no Kajitsu on Makina's route after finishing my first route which was Yumiko's.

I've paused Kamidori Alchemy Meister since I couldn't bring myself to play more instead of reading which leaves Eien no Aselia as the only title with massive RPG elements to have been played for at least the time needed for one route and I've even completed it.
In that realm, I have hopes for Seinarukana since it's the sequel of Eien no Aselia, so I already know what I can expect of it.
