The Sakabato doesn't slow down his attacks it just prevents him from killing. You are right there is no way Soujiro could beat Hiko but I do believe Soujiro could of beaten Kenshin.

In his defense, Goku's finger would do a whole lot worse to nearly everyone else listed. Also, this thread needs some Shingeki no Kyojin in it, so I'll throw Mikasa's name in the mix.

Guts cut 5 people in half with a single slash, that already puts him above the rest in my eyes.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

What about Hiko Seijuro? He can make 9 attacks within a fraction of a second. The said attack is impossible to block or dodge (unless you're Soujiro, though I doubt even he can dodge Hiko's KuzuRyuSen).

That guy from Yondemasu no Azazel-san Z had a pretty impressive sword. A sword as large as a skycrapper that could only be forged through enormous amounts of netorare.

LOL Inuyasha, Kirito arethe best swordsmen? People seriously need to watch Rurouni Kenshin here.

Seen it, doesn't change my mind. Kirito doesn't even need his Jesus powers.
Can Kirirto pull off a badass combo like this @ 16:28

Starburst Stream bitches!
There was nothing skillful about that. Kenshin literally spun in the air. Kirito is just generic slash, slash, slash Kenshin actually has different techniques. Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki > Starburst Stream

I thought we were judging based on power and combo count. Variety doesn't exactly mean much when you're lacking in power in my opinion. That's like having all the elemental attacks including your opponents greatest weakness, yet you have an attack power of 5 where he has an attack power of 20.

I go with Kenshin Himura. Since I was little, I've always thought his skills with sword are nothing from this world. I admire him a lot, so yeah, I think he's the best swordsman that ever existed.
Oh, and I completely forgot about Aoshi Shinomori. He's quite amazing too.

For me skill and technique plays a part when it comes to being a good swordsman not just power. Regardless Kenshin is still a better swords man because he is a lot faster and an Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki with a normal sword can slice anyone in half. Plus the Kuzu Ryusen is 9 slashes in one attack.

Hiko beats both easily. There's a reason why the only serious fight he ever got into (that was properly shown in the series) ended in him curbstomping a freaking giant that was 100x his size (saying something, considering how huge he is himself).

As strong as Kenshin is, could he have won against Shishio if he wasn't all burnt up? Or for that matter, could he have beaten Sojiro if the kid hadn't gone all emotional?

Anyway, though I'm quite fond of the swordsmen in the Type-Moon franchise like Saber, Archer, and Shirou, my favorite swordsman is probably Guts, because Berserk is awesome and his character is great.
And I mean that in the most sexually painful way possible.

I don't think he would have won, had Shishio not been all burnt up. And technically, their battle ended in a draw. If Sojiro hadn't gone all emotional, he would've been faster than Kenshin, so Kenshin's Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki wouldn't have hit him in the first place (meaning it would be Kenshin's loss).

I'll admit Kenshin has far more skill, that much is obvious after seeing Kirito's Kendo fight against Suguha. That and Kirito is a 17 year old NEET anyway.

In any case, I don't want to be repeating myself, so I'll leave it at that. I've said what I've said, you've said what you've said, I'm not budging, you're not budging, so yeah.

After immobilizing an opponent, he can call in the other blades to hit them while they are trapped. He can also use all the blades at once for one immensely powerful strike.

I guess he can kill mihawk or Guts blink of an eye

lololololololol Kirito? Inuyasha?? Kenshin??? Hawk-Eyes???? You all dont know shit.

My vote goes to Soul Eater's Mifune, aka the Sword God

Power:

  • Mifune is an absolutely ordinary human. Hell, hes so ordinary, even the massive size of his soul is irrelevant to his life as a swordsman.
  • Strong enough to be able to cut through steel, like any of the other great swordsmen.

Skill

  • Fuck dual-wielding, to hell with the lame-ass triple-wielding, its his Infinite One Sword Style that pwns all others.
  • He's fast enough to step through rapid streams of attacks.
  • His reactions are so superb he can not only parry/dodge attacks from an opponent fast enough to be invisible to the human eye, but even attack said lightning-fast attacker.
  • and the pièce de résistance: Mugen Ittōryū: Flood Line. Thats right, a friggin bubble shield made entirely of swords.

Well, I was just talking about how their battles would've gone at that time. If we were to take a stand from their prime, I would rate Kenshin below only Hiko Seijuro, then Shishio and then Soujiro (why the fuck are all their names starting with an S?)

I like Shishio A LOT MORE but I believe if Kenshin was fresh (hadn't fought anyone before fighting Shishio), had a real sword not a reverse blade sword he would of been able to kill Shishio with Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki . Shishio to me wasn't as fast as Kenshin, Soujiro however was faster than him except when he used Ama Kakeru Ryu. Soujiro would of won if he had a sword made by Shaku Arai like Kenshin's and Shishio's swords.

Okay then truce.

If it comes just to skill with the sword, I would say Nanashi from Sword of the stranger or maybe Jin or Mugen from Samurai Champloo.

Sure, Guts is powerful, but his power doesn't come from skill with the sword, the thing is so huge it can barely be called a sword anyway - just a giant slab of metal.

Kenshin is really good, but you guys are forgetting Hiko Seijuro. He's easily the strongest character in the Kenshinverse (the author himself has said so), he just doesn't generally give a fuck about what happens around him, hence why he doesn't take an active part in the Revolution, or in the fight against Shishio (until really late).

Idk who's the best, though it would be interesting to find out, but Mugen is def the most entertaining. Other ones I like are King of Knights in Fate/Zero and Sharrkan from Magi. They're not as brutal and badass as ones listed, but still like them. Are there many swordsmen out there with a lot of finesse in anime?

Okay i'm no fan of Bleach...

But Ichigo it's the most powerful swordman, cuz he is vasto lord...
And any other opponent cannot survive the pressure...
They can't even follow his speed.
Btw, people(not me, i don't even watched full anime) consider Bleach the most overpower in the Big Three(such a gay expression)...

Neither Guts, Inuyasha or Saber(idk iff the ultimate attack of she can bet him)...

So, i really think(not fanboy of bleach here, just being straight), Ichigo is the most powerfull.

If we're talking the sword alone, and nothing to do with character development/personality/plot/preference... as most of us already know, Hiko Seijuro is a Kenshin that has more strength, more experience in Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, and killing intent. He has his name stamped on Rurouni Kenshin.

Vagabond and Sword of the Stranger also deserve a mention for being raw. Sasaki Kojiro and Nanashi have some impressive skill display.

Power... well, anything supernatural/super-power would have an advantage, so I don't really want to get into that.

If we go by that (being able to cut large things) then Gin would be the best swordsman considering Gin when his zanpaktou is in bankai can cut multiple buildings in half. http://youtu.be/s_OCOiAIU2Y
