Wouldn't it be more uncommon for someone to join MAL before even seeing their first anime?

Been completing like 160 shows a year since I started watching anime 2011. I'll probably finish my 1000th series in like 3.5 years from now. My backlog is huge too, so its not like I am running out of shows to watch.

I've been knowing mal long before I even knew what anime was. Is that strange?

You will never run out of shows to watch, the more you watch, the more it builds and builds and builds.

The right kind of anime? :D seeing your list, that was kinda hard to understand :D
I guess it would be better to say a variety. You watch too much of one kind(genre) or length then you'll get bored and that's usually partly why people rarely get over 500. You need a nice balance of long anime, shorts, and normal length and then multiply that by all the genres and types. You need to have an anime for any mood you may feel.

Look at how many MAL entries are short omakes or single-episode OVAs. It's not hard to build up one's list numbers if you watch more of those (and the 12-episode series they often accompany) instead of 200+-episode shounen anime.

Everything that connects to MAL

Contains Ecchi, but not Tagged Ecchi: Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3

I'm the same. I could have watched lanblade level anime if I hadn't of rewatched. Almost half my total time watched is rewatching. Though I enjoy rewatching more than normal watching so I don't regret it.

I like re-watching as much as i am watching new anime. To be honest, i am leaning to the former since it is more entertaining and fun to re-watch my favourites.

If you have watched anime for a long time it's not exactly hard to accumulate a hefty amount of anime watched.

Well I restrict myself, make sure to watch a couple of new anime before rewatching one. After all you have to watch new anime to make your list of rewatchable ones larger.

Just enjoy whatever you want to watch. I mean, i am watching anime because i enjoy watching it and found it to be interesting compared to other kind of shows; And not because to boast my anime list to people. Seriously, who cares whether your anime list is huge or not. The only thing i care is that you like/love to watch anime and thats the main reason why most of us are here in the first place.

I think the best part about ecchi anime in general is their specials/OVAs in terms of ecchi content. Everything just went to overdrive compared to the original series. Very creative too.

I also wonder how people manage to obtain so much free time. I can get how some users could have watched 750 series, maaaybe even ones with a 1000, but when I see profiles like Date's, that doesn't look like a legitamite account to me. It's like he added ALL anime and manga entries and immediately adds the newest entries that have just been added to the DB just to make it look like hes still 'actively' watching/reading anime/manga...

Not that hard to comprehend. If you spend only 2 hours a day on average watching anime you could watch close to 100 series (even mix of 2 cour and 1 cour series, ignoring long running shows) within a year. If you started watching anime when you were a teenager you would reach over 1000 anime (not even counting movies, ova's or specials) before you are even 30.

People have been watching anime for so many years, it isn't surprising that people would have hundreds or thousands of anime on their lists. Also take note that a lot of those shows might just be advertisements, ONAs, OVAs, movies, shorts and the like.

Because they are probably older than you and/or have been watching anime longer than you have or at a faster pace. For instance I'm 31 and I've been watching anime for 18 years of my life. That adds up, especially if the person likes to marathon things or watches a lot of movies, OVAs, and short series.

For 5 years if you watch one episode a day you could watch 140 series. That's not counting specials, ovas, movies, shorts, etc which you can watch at least 50 a day if you feel like.

Your pace is roughly 3 episodes per week(which is easy to do) for 5 years makes about 60, 13 episode series. I wouldn't be surprised if most people could get 2 or 3 minimum a day. Which if done for five years could be about 420 series. Of course not including specials, ovas, movies, and shorts.

Well NEET'ing your way through life isn't worth it. Yeah it might be a carefree life in the beginning, but it makes you feel totally useless in the end, not being able to contribute anything to society AT ALL. With your self-esteem going down and everything... I saw a profile on here (forgot the name, and even if I did I wouldnt mention it) of someone who - supposedly - lived entirely for the purpose of anime; he watched 10 cours-worth of anime each day. Don't know if he was legit or just trolling, but that was truly a saddening thing to see. I really don't want people to become like that.

Because when I find something I like I don't like to stop watching it.

If it's a complete 13-26 episode series and I don't work that day, you can bet I'm going to sit there for 6-12 hours and watch the whole thing. Minus, food and bathroom breaks and time off to do necessary household chores. Then I'm going to pick up the next one and start that.

I also watch a lot of movies, OVAs, and short TV series.

If I do work than I usually watch something after it to wind down, not always anime since I have other interests, but often enough it's an anime that is currently airing and streaming weekly on Crunchyroll. I also don't just follow one show either, I usually watch about 10-15 per season.
