The thing is though, DMC 3 & 4 did punish you for using the same move over and over again, just passively. You wont get a good rank for using rebellion or red queen's default combo over and over again, and while that might seem tame as a punishment, getting high scores is quite the big deal, plus theres the subtle reward of seeing a big shiny SSS rank on the screen. The system makes the player WANT to switch up their gameplay while giving them the freedom to experiment with how they do so, rather than throwing a brick wall infront of the them and forcing them to use a different attack. DmC's method is lazy and tedious, a devolution, not an evolution

On a related note, this thread has made me go and play Ninja Gaiden 2 again, still wicked as ever

Is anyone else excited for Transistor?
I don't think I'll be able to pick it up for a while... I am just not willing to put time/money into a new game right now. I still really want it, though...

I'm an assassin / thief in Skyrim. I'm doing the thieves' guild and dark brotherhood right meow and I think I'm nearly at the end for those. I have perk points in illusion, sneak, archery, 1 handed weapons. I try to take everyone out from the shadows. I'm also a werwolf because sometimes I like going berserk. I tried being a vampire but it wasn't my style. Any tips for making my character even beastlier or any tips to mix things up to make the game more entertaining? I stopped playing it for a while and a new approach might be just what I need to spark my interest again.

TFW you think you'll never play through your 500+ games on Steam, and the next time you check it's almost reached 800. It's those bundles, I swear, it isn't my fault >:

Reach lv80 or make a skill legendary or whatever it is you have to do to turn the enemies to max difficulty.
Then only use shitty fur armour and two handed weapons without all the game-breaking enchantments, and see how well you manage. That should be a challenge. Or throw in one of those mods that make the enemies even harder.

Probably a hundred at least. Then again, we get a lot of shovelware with bundles I guess.

I'm just trying to finish Bravely Default now. All those time loops made it so boring though.

I was thinking about picking up Bravely Default but there's other RPGs that I'm more interested in playing. Final Fantasy 6, Persona 4, Valkyria Chronicles, The Witcher, and Ni no Kuni are the ones that come to mind. Though before jumping into fresh experiences I'm beating a few unfinished games first. Ninja Gaiden 2 is what I'm playing now. I played it years ago but I had to stop due to a disc reading error which apparently happened to many other owners. Thankfully the new copy doesn't have any problemos. Fire Emblem Awakening is next up. It confused me with its level up / class system system. I want the kids to inherit the parent's abilities and I wasn't sure how. After looking it up I think I get it now.

Another thing that I've been mindful of recently is to not make games a chore. Grinding, doing a seemingly endless amount of quests, collecting many unique items, checking out all the lore, using iron daggers to level up my smithing skill so I can have a beast dagger for almost guaranteed sneak kills, etc just sucks my willpower dry. Sometimes in the journey to better my characters I forget that fun comes first.

Is there any game that you've played recently that's defied your expectations? Maybe it just felt utterly satisfying.

Right now for me it's Ninja Gaiden 2. It's a breath of fresh air as there's no ranking up or pumping stats. It's over the top action with cool combos. The moment I took out the first wave of baddies I knew it would be a blast. I have a huge smile on my face playing it and I can't ask for much more than that.

As someone who basically never plays RPGs, I'm having quite a lot of fun with Child of Light. I like its simplicity and straight-forwardness. My only complaint is that there's no party-limit and the side-characters are not very interesting at all. Makes it seem very pointless to level up anyone besides Aurora.
I'm looking forward more to playing The Banner Saga as well now though.

And just trying to finish a game can be a chore sometimes. I'm playing through Half-Life and that is one long and confusing game, lol.

My world is small, but since I'm looking up at space night after night, you could say I'm a frog on a universal scale. Has anyone here heard of "One way Heroics"? I picked it up yesterday after scanning for something to quell my boredom without too much of an invesment and found a fantastic little rougelike. It's turnbased though presented in an top down view akin to something like old LoZ games, and your always pressed forward since the screen scrolls forwards every turn, leading to some rather tense moments and lots of on the spot planning especially if you want to dive into a dungeon. It's got a surprising amount of depth to it

Best of all Playism has it for only 2$, an absolute steal IMO

Oh, and the soundtrack is wicked

Dark Souls is free for Xbox Live Gold members.
But beware, Microsoft won't let you update it, so you can't play with anyone who has another version of it. You can play with other people who are playing the "Free With Gold" version, though. If you plan to do PvP, get the Dark Wood Grain Ring since it let's you ninjaflip on 50% equip burden *and also get the Fog ring since people can't lock on to you. Completely balanced, I know. Also, use the Crystal Ring Shield. You will completely wreck everyone, ever. Have fun!

Not liking the marketing territory Dark 2 is treading, but I'll stick with it nonetheless. They are lingering on the border of poorly planned DLC like other companies, but I'm hoping they can still pull things off well and aren't grubbing too much.

Then again, we got Miyazaki on Beast Souls to look forward to, so that could be more independent and a step in better directions, but it's far too early to tell obviously.

Meh, Dark Souls 1 DLC was better than the Main Game, I wouldnt mind at all, having DLC on that level of quality.

I dont know how independent that is. I mean they got Sony behind their backs, and I am not trusting Sony too much. They may seem like some hero from the next-gen consoles showdown, but all they did was saying "We arent doing what Microsoft is doing."

Basically the big "savior" of gaming Sony promised with the Ps4 "We wont screw you over!". And for that they got praised to heavens.

Am I happy to get more content? Yes.
Am I happy that they decided to release them in episodes? No.
Will I buy it? Yes.

But, I will wait until the winter sale so I can get them all for 10-15 euro.
Since I only do PvP, I am in no rush to get them. I will have to buy them earlier if there are some OP stuff in them akin to Dark Magic in Dark Souls and if there is a new PvP hotspot like Oolacile Township. I just hope they release a major balance patch alongside the DLC like they did with Dark Souls. Everybody is raging at FromSoft since the game in it's current state is pretty unbalanced and heavily favors magic over physical, but Dark Souls was exactly the same. Physical scaling was garbage on release and they didn't fix it until the DLC came around.

AngelsArcanum said:

It's not official that he's working on Beast Souls, though. It's just speculation since they said he was busy with another project so he couldn't work on Dark Souls 2. He did get promoted to the president of FromSoft not too long ago, so it could have been something related to that.

Also, it's highly likely that Beast Souls is PS4 exclusive, at least PS exclusive. So meh. Unless the game is Game of the Century, I will probably not buy a PS4 for it.

My brother and I decided to finally get a PS3 together. We have a bunch of games in mind but we're unsure on which version to purchase. There's a bunch of different versions and I heard a few of them have some problems or annoyances. For example, I heard the humming can be quite loud, there are overheating problems, and there's that red light of death. Also, I don't need to play older ps2 or ps1 games. Any tips or suggestions?

Buy the latest revision? Usually a good idea. Then just google if there are problems with the latest revision and your set.

The ps4's libary is so immensely weak at the moment(including games announced/ we know are coming) that it's probably going to be another year or two before purchasing one becomes even considerable for me, especially with the current state of the gaming industry at large

@Nagisa; If your meaning console purchase tips, from my personal experience I think I have a ps3 slim(not the most recent version "Super slim") and it's never troubled me and I've had it for about 3 years now

It's a shame it sold like crap and they'll probably never make a second game. The games ends on a cliffhanger and The American Nightmare raises more questions than answers them (although still answers some).

It really is a shame. Altough it doesnt surprise me. Something about it doesnt seem appealing at first glance. I cant put my finger on it but all I know is that I didnt buy this game despite it being on pretty much every sale and it being very very cheap. Only once did I finally buy it on GoG and that only because I needed a few more games to get the discount (buy 5 games and they are 75% cheaper and stuff like that). And even after buying it I ignored it for like 3 months. I guess its really one of those hidden gems that you have to try to see its glory.

Yeah, the gameplay and enemies really arent many. I just got to Act 3 and until now there where basically 6 types of enemies, guy with Axe, guy that throws axe, Guy with two swords, Big guy with axe, Big guy with Chainsaw and Crows. And the differences arent that big.

But really the game just reeks atmosphere and i love the way the story is told. Im looking really hard to find every manuscript cause they are the best part. I love how you get some pages ahead of others and you read basically spoilers of what is going to happen. The story is like a puzzle of which you get pieces that you dont need yet but the more you get the more you see the bigger picture.

Just watched some of the E3 conferences today, showed some games I'm interested in playing hopefully in the future. I thought No Man's Sky and ABZU looked fantastic, and some obvious titles like Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3 I can't wait to play.

Yeah I've yet to see Microsoft's and EA's conferences, though I heard EA's was eh; MS people said it was okay. Sony's was pretty okay; that whole Playstation TV stuff = eh. The whole thing with the comic guy; you know, the comic at least seems interesting, but he just kept talking. That talk, as well as that conference, could've been at least 30 mins shorter. In the end though, they did show some exciting stuff, so it wasn't too bad or a disappointment altogether.

Ubisoft's was...well...idk. Aisha Tyler back in it. No Beyond Good and Evil 2, once again. Nor The Last Guardian. Although I've stopped caring about that game after it got a series of delays. Also, no Fallout 4. :(

Nintendo's up tomorrow. I'm gonna miss it because I'm in class, but I'll just watch the archived footage and 'grade' it based on their presentation and the games they show. Bayonetta 2.

Catching up with Sony's conference I had to miss out last night, I'd say they won the last day, but mostly because everything else was already bad and boring.

EA was full sport so it was really boring. Xbox trolled hard with Conkers and "LEL XBOX MASTER RACE", also too much shooters and HALO HD COLLECTION. Oobiesoft topped them all I guess, sadly no Patriot info. Sony wins because Metal Gear Solid V (and Dead Island 2).

Edit: Xbox conference in a nutshell

The best part were the live gameplay demos with people playing on stage, and the footage totally not recorded beforehand. And EA's opening. And Microsoft's obligatory "we listen to you guys".
They were kinda vague about it but Mass Effect is kinda open-world now? Would be great to have an actual open-world space RPG. But I doubt they actually have multiple planets, entirely explorable. Considering that previous games even had really small town maps.

Has anyone played Xenoblade Chronicles? If so, how does it stack up to other JRPGs. I've been listening to some Chrono Trigger music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVif7tugqJ0 and I'm in the mood for a unique fantasy world.

I just checked out more info on X and it looks like it'll shape up to be fantastic! Tetsuya Takahashi has quite the resume! Plus Hiroyuki Sawano's doing the music. Good stuff but idk if I'm going to get a Wii U just for this. Is there a way to rent consoles like you rent games?

Also, I guess I answered my own question. Takahashi is the guy behind Xenoblade Chronicles so it looks like it's right up my alley. :)
