I liked this episode, as everyone here when i first saw the OP I was like wow (not about the music though lol) new animation, then it got to the Bardock bit and i though to myself nah this is just a retrack then the whole series started and I was OH :( no remake of the animation. Still will watch it though, surely no one has expected the episode to be epic did they? |

they'll remaster and re-animate some stuff. i would like them to totally shorten the sagas and make it more comprehensible to the plot. |

It was alright. I mean, c'mon, if you like the old version, you should like this one even better. Its going to closely follow the manga as well, so without the filler it should fit into 100 episodes. And thats Goku's original VA, he became popular on that voice :P |

soooo how shouuld I say this...Major disappointment I was hoping it will be redrawed and be cool looking like the op and ed but noooooo it's just the same thing like 20 years ago (yes dbz original is 20 years old) just some things cut out...now that's what I call milking the cow without working at all. And where's the god damm HD huh ? I don't understand why do it at all if you will not change anything ? If you want the shorter dbz version go play dbz budokai or tenkaichi or something...but...but I hope that in some episode out of nowhere it will be redrawed...I hope...it's sad |

Good ol' DB people... good ol'... What's with the complaints huh? If you're a fan of the series then you'll keep being a fan whatever happens to the series... Actually I'm also used to the first VA I heard (Spanish in my case) and I really doubted of the quality of Goku's, Bardock's and Gohan's VA, but right before the ending of the episode I realized that those are the originals and those are the rightful ones for them... Well not for Bardock at alll but everyone else VAs are good... This brought me some nostalgia for sure... it was cool to see that again.... and I actually love the animation... is not like totally 'woeeee a new redrawn series', but it still looks crispy and reworked for the sake of nowadays... Liked it.. Signs, Green |

"Classic martial-arts shonen series Dragonball Z will be receiving an extensively remastered HD re-broadcast this April." If that was High Definition then i will commit seppuku with a fork. Some of you guys says is nostalgic, but if you want to see the same shit then just see the old Dragon's Balls. <-- if you know what i mean. |

Overall, this new Dragonball does outdo the the old Dragonball. But... I'm disappointed. The music completely sucked... Why? Well it seemed to me that they kept the original Dragonball music. The old music suited Dragonball Z in the early 90's, but it's 2009; they could have notched up the music. Tsubasa chronicles, Naruto, Final Fantasy, Bleach... anime like those have great music. The quality was disappointing... Take a look This is a screen shot from Dragonball Kai And here's a screen shot from Toradora! See the quality difference? Too me it looks like the producers for Dragonball Kai just notched up the contrast and kept the old quality. |

Somebody help me, please! I've downloaded the SafetyDance release, which is supposed to be the best one available when it comes to eng-subbed releases and I don't see the subtitles, although I'm certain that there is a subtitle track included in the file! I'm using VLC Media Player (with which so far I have been able to read all .mkv subtitle tracks). Can anyone recommend me another player or a possible solution to allow VLC Media Player read the subtitle track? |

Media player classic is so much better, its not even funny anymore. I have no problems with the voicework. But the fact that they advertise it so wrongly. Look at the specials before Golden 9, look at the intro and ending. THAT is the kind of stuff 90% of the people were expecting. Instead we get a stretched image, that is even more blurry then the original. It's like watching an old cartoon like Thundercats or TMNT, the intro animation is SO much better than the actual animation. Its a cheap trick to lure viewers in. I know this is meant for the younger generation, who never got the chance to see the original DBZ, but why not go the extra mile, and redo the artwork so you can pull in the old fans for one more viewing? |

Seriously I could have sworn I heard in lots of places the art was being redone, I mean the opening looks leagues ahead of the ep 1 art although I love the nostalgia that brings on. They could've at least made it freza saga quality art. |

I thought it was ok. It took a bit to get used to the Japanese voice acting since I always watch the english dub. My main problem with it is - They made everything else new except for the age old animation/art. They could have made it ten times better if they would have reanimated it. I think i like the original series more. |

Okay, seriously, what the fuck is everyone bitching about? They never said anywhere that they were going to drastically redo the animation like you're all expecting. Just touch it up and improve it is what they basically said. However, they did say there would be new OPs and EDs, so why are you comparing those to the actual show's animation? And how nice they made such old animation look is actually pretty impressive. And yeah, Goku's voice is fucked up...that's for sure, but that's really the only thing I can see worth complaining about. Yeah, it's not the best thing in the world but you're all whining over nothing. I enjoyed it for what it was :/. |

To me it's clear as day that they beefed up the animation, I don't understand why people are disappointed in the animation quality. I think this is going to turn out to be a great version of DBZ. Did they keep the original music from the Japanese version? I haven't seen the Japanese version before. Question, is Goku's voice going to stay like this throughout the entire series? Or perhaps his voice actor was changed half-way through the series back in the day? |

I don't know how to tell if animation is good so I can't distinguish between good animation and bad animation but I freaking love what I've seen so far, didn't watch the full episode cause the sub wasn't up at the time, but it's freaking cool, I love it. :D Looking forward to watching this, the original was one of my favourite anime series. |

AHHH MY CHILDHOOD! ITS MY CHILDHOOD! ;___; This is soo freaking nostalgic. I've missed DBZ. <3 I think they've done a pretty good job with improving the animation. Yes, it's an old style that's already outdated, but this is how DBZ is. They made the picture sharper and brighter and that's good enough for me. I always wanted to rewatch DBZ in Japanese (since originally I watched the Hebrew dub lol), and this is just a great way to do so. :D Thank you Toei animation~ About the voices. Yes, they're bad, but that's how it is. Eventually you get used to them. Also, I kinda miss CHA LA HEAD CHA LA... but I guess the new OP animation was worth it. And the new song isnt that bad either... sorta. |

The music seemed kind of new in this, I don't remember the old stuff sounding like this ... I've only seen bits and pieces of DBZ in Japanese though. Also, the entire Goku family has voices like that, so I'd advise everyone to get used to it. Yeah it's weird, but I think a lot of people here are overeacting, I grew up with DBZ (US) myself but it's not that hard to adapt and have a different perspective on it. My friends always tell me one of the reasons why Goku and others have a voice like that is because they were very good people, innocent, don't like to fight, etc. Could just be their take on it ... but still, it's not a big deal. But yeah to answer your question, pretty sure his voice is always like that. |

i'm still amazed on how many people either strait up dislike or say they have to get used to Goku's voice. I understand that alot of anime fans today probably started with the US version of DBZ (not all, but alot, of course) so of course they're used to it. But you know what? When I was 5, Voltron was popular, and I've watched Voltron over and over... but now that I've educated myself on the truth behind Voltron, I will never watch the US version again. Beast King GoLion all the way for me! Some people have to remember a few things about anime: For the most part, a VA sticks with their character for as long as that character needs to be voiced. If the show goes on for over a decade, well, that VA has a 10-year job now dont they? Fact 2: Many, many times, little boy characters in anime are voiced by female VA's. This is why Goku, as a kid, was voiced by Masako Nozawa, a female. (here: http://myanimelist.net/people/557/Masako_Nozawa ) Now, being that VA's stick with their characters, it was hard to tell that at the beggining of Dragon Ball that Goku was actually going to grow up to be a man. Instead of changing VA's, they just had Masako Nozawa put a little older feel into her voice (if you think theres no difference, listen to when kid Gohan speaks, then Goku... there IS a difference) and, since they decided to voice ALL the males in Goku's family with the same VA, guess what? you got Bardock. Even with Bardock, Masako alters her voice to sound... well... more serious. Well kids, this round of education is over. I'm sure almost none of you read it, because who reads anything over 2 lines in any givin forum post nowadays? But oh well. I feel better writing it. Goku, Gohan, Goten, and Bardock will ONLY sound true to me if voiced by Masako Nozawa! Its the way its ment to be! |

I noticed someone here, or a couple people stated here that Kai never said they would have high quality. I quote from it's description... "Classic martial-arts shonen series Dragonball Z will be receiving an extensively remastered HD re-broadcast this April. The rebroadcast will include newly recorded dialog by the original seiyuu, new sound effects, new OP/ED sequences, and a brand new HD video transfer. (Sankaku Complex)" Extensively? This description makes Kai sound like it's mother fucking Final Fantasy quality!!!!!! The show lied, to drag in more viewers. It's nice for the people who don't have any complaints of this remake, but most do, people the producers LIED!!!!!! man... that was not what i was expecting man, that new intro set up up for the biggest fall ever! i mean its so misleading. i dont care if the entire series looked like the new OVA released last year. a whole new re-drawn series is the facelift that the DBX series was seriously needing... Alas all we got was just revamped colours and better picture quality with the power of HD, but is that really enough? sure nostalgia all and well for those who aint been in the mix for a good few years, but for those of us thats lived DBZ through and through to have to watch the same anime again after remastered version on DVD in a newer HD remake... its just not fair. why even bring out the remastered DVD if the HD remake wa rounfd the corner with no variation to the original? Anyway it did look alot better then the original series, but ya i fill a bit robbed :S |

Well the new OP rocked (the animation anyway...) I just wish they had redone the actual eps like that... but oh well. OP and ED animation rocks. OP and ED music sucks. This show was advertised as a revamp of DBZ. What we got is an upscale of the old show. Sorry but for me it's epic fail. Oh and it doesn't matter if you're used to Goku's voice in the dub version or the Japanese version. What sucks, sucks. Plain and simple. I'm gonna continue to watch a few more episodes but if it turns out to be the same old DBZ in 720p upscaled, well I have too many shows to watch this season, and others to finish, to waste my time watching something I already have on my external hard drive. |

Do you all think that quality may have been lost from the Raw? I am sure if we were watching it in Japan on an Actual HDTV, it wouldn't look like Code Geass R2 720P good but it would probably look better than it does on an actual computer monitor. Me personally, i tried to watch DBZ a year ago and couldn't get into it but seeing this first episode...im gonna be following this one each week. Can't wait for the 2nd episode. |

But there is only so much you can do with footage as old as this. |
