THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So it started with recap and Ed staring at burned Central Library.
Marcoh Cliffie is left as "mystery".
Lust and Gluttony talk about that man and library accident.
Scar fight was cool, if short. The conclusion of it is left for mystery too.
LOL@Car ride discussion.
Ceska's introduction was way better done in FMA2.
LOL@Al's horn being "stuck" in the paper notes and table xD
Yay Hughes!
The "revelation" was done in great style too.
Armstrong! And his MANLY epicness!
5Th Lab.
Barry! You got to love that cute guy =D
The cliffhanger!

Next Episode: Awesome fights.

First of all, yeeey Sheska-chan! I like this girl. :D
This was a very great episode, it was Sheska, Hughes, Lust, Roy, Armstrong, Maria Ross and a bit Scar. Lot of my favourite characters.
Next week will be a lot of Barry. I hate that guy in the first series, but I came to like him in the manga. In this series, Barry probably will be my favourite, too. It's good. :)
In two episodes, Greed will be appeared, so from now on, this series will be epic, and heaven for me. :D

Great episode Funniest one yet!! Al's expressions when he's trying to hide something, are absolutely priceless! Ed calling himself short is way better, lulz!! The "ingredient" discovery was so much more epic and emotional. Armstrong is so GAR/Sensitive, I LMFAO!! The escorts were much better in this one as well, can't wait for the Barry the Chopper, etc. ep...Urahara Out!!

Hah, I loved this episode. Stuck to the story and made me laugh.
Liked the part where Ed called himself small. xD

Armstrong with his man-tears and overwhelming aura. -thumbs up-
I love the two new excorts, the part where they in the car, at the mention of a hobby they start talking amongst themselves as to why it's so weird. XD

Barry the Chopper!!!

Great episode!

But I thought Ed met up with Barry in his "butcher shop" first (like the original anime). Then they fought in the factory later on.

That only happened in the first series, in the manga Ed meets Barry in Lab 5.

Great episode, as per usual. Loved Sheska.
Can't wait for the fights next episode! I didn't really care much for Barry one way or another in the first series, but I loved him in the manga. I mean who doesn't love the bit where

Nope. The first series added that. In the manga, we never see Barry prior to his being experimented on at the 5th Laboratory.

I thought this episode was pretty awesome. :D Sheska is awesome, obviously, and I loved her introduction this time round. I don't mind the pacing - it makes every episode interesting because more things are happening (but of course I still loved the first series!).

I agree with what others have said. I love the discussions between Ross and Brosh and the part where Ed starts squirming since he called himself small... :)

Boring. Mostly because it wasn't really any different from the first series. I suppose it was well done, but it felt a little by the numbers. I just want to get to the new material now.

Sorry to break the flow of "loved it" but I didn't like it that much. But I am noticing that it's always taking me 2-3 viewings to like the new series episodes. They are in fact quite good, but I can't help compare it to FMA1 in my first viewing. Anyway, what I didn't like-

1. The Scar-homunculus fight was too short.
2. How Sheska (I always thought her name was Cheska when I watched FMA1 dubbed !!) was introduced. I mean not how she introduced herself and all coz that was very good and funny but how Ed and Al were suddenly taken to a fired ex-employee seemed like "rushed" (oh no here's that word again, sorry). Anyway when I watched that part a second time, it did seem quite logical for the military to keep such information.

3. How Ed and Al revealed the truth to Ross and Brosh themselves and then requested them to keep quiet about it didn't feel right with me. Obviously they had to tell Armstrong. In FMA1 Ross overheard it which I personally found better.

4. Was it just me or did it seem like the conversation where Hughes gives Sheska the job misses a few lines? like Sheska saying she can reproduce all the records or Hughes confirming that she can do it. In the episode, it showed Sheska saying she memorized the records and Hughes immediately saying "Alright, let's go through the procedures" . A trifle thing but well it's bugging me.

5. Still can't find a stand-out/moving music theme. Arghhh.

Anyway, I'm sure i would like it on my 2nd viewing. A few things I liked in my 1st viewing-

1. How Gluttony sniffed out Scar and then started the attack.
2. Sheska looked cuter and way funnier.
3. Ross and Brosh were great, and where Al tells them he wears the armour as a hobby, it was so funny.

EDIT: I watched Tomodachi & AsuNoSubs. Didn't like their OP translation. I'll download Eclipse once they release it.

@ Sapta-
I think most of your complaints come from comparing it to the first series too much. I don't think the Scar-homunculus fight needed to be any longer, and the big reveal seemed fine. But I think you're right about how Ed and Al were just suddenly taken to see Sheska. They left out the seen where Ed and Al go to the main branch and someone says "Hey, maybe that Sheska girl would know".

However it fits the whole "mystery" theme which is going on around the Library Accident and Marcoh. Its only normal that we would not see them and in such way we got a Homonunculi fight, WITHOUT revealing one major aspect of theirs(
)

And many still think that Ishval is written as Ishbal.

I will agree that it was "too fast" (just like the introduction of Ross and that guy with her).

Really? I felt that really cheapened the impact back in FMA1. While there, along with animation style, it really was a "striking" revelation.

I think it adds quite well to show off the "funny" side of Hughes and just how fast she was recruited. Also it shows that her recruitment had the motives of pity too, not just "need to know".

While music is not "overwhelming"(which is mostly hate in anime, since it takes away from the scenes itself), there were quite a lot of music pieces. We also hear an almost-full track of the music which before played in "Ed and Al on train" scene.

Also the music playing during the "revelation" was great.

I quite liked this episode, the whole mystery idea was done well. I was dissapointed by the amount of comedy though, felt like there was waaaay too much. Some of it was quite funny but some also just wasn't. Next episode should be quite serious though and will have lot's of action so can't wait. The plot and characters is what i love about fma :)

What was Ed about to ask El, when he said he had been to scared to ask him before? I watched FMA1 long ago so I don't remember if that was revealed, and I've never read the manga so...would really like to know if they ever had told us :).

This episode is full of ULTIMATE QUALITY. Bones have no money or what? They must feed their animators, I guess. No Marcoh vs Lust, only 5 sec fight with Scar. If next episode will be failed as 7th, I'll drop this shitty animu. Manga is still much more better.
But Armstrong is epic. And next episode must be epic too.

No.

FMA2 follows manga storyline.

FMA1 and Fma2/Manga have two different storylines.

At first they are similar, but you can already see differences(because FMA1 added a lot of anime original stuff also preparing for anime-original ending).

The first HUGE differences begin in 5th Lab(next episode) and then by the time of introduction of *tries not to spoiler* a-certain-person-who-is-shown-in-the-op-changing-into-blue-thing-and-attacking-someone, FMA1 and FMA2/manga are already two entirely different things

Attacking an armor with an cleaver. Really brilliant. It's a shame there's too much chibi in it, it screws up the good parts of it. Although the ''I called myself small'' was funny.

I'm somewhat inclined to think that the people who keep complaining about the SD haven't read the manga, and think that this series should be an angst-filled train to angsttown like FMA1. While I agree that there are a few places where the SD doesn't quite fit/seems to break the overall "flow", I'm happy with it overall. The SD is part of what makes FMA FMA.

That's just unnecessary exposition, we don't need to be see them walking through doors or driving in cars.

I'm really digging this remake, I think it's much better than the original, which quite honestly bored me to tears at times. It seems to have a good mix of comedy, action and drama.

Am I the only one that thinks Ed's and Al's relationship is completely awesome, they think alike, they both have issues about their bodies and react the same to almost everything. Very well done.

Sheska makes a really nice appearance. I also love when Gluttony goes psycho, he's really scary. Also props to Armstrong and his epic smothering :P

MAN I loved this episode. Can't believe we are at Lab 5 already. But then again this is what happens when there aren't any "fillers" to the story.

I absolutely can't wait to see the rest of the manga (aside from these first episodes) animated! It'll be here before we know it and then all the people that compare this to FMA 1 won't have anything to compare to. It'll be like a "brand new series" ;)
