| Finally the Nationals again. That foreigner team was really cool and they impressed me quite a bit with their passion for the game. Felt sorry for them when they lost :/ And Shinobu is slim again xD |

Not that I'm surprised at all, I know this stuff happens all the time. Just couldn't help having these thoughts while watching. Pretty much my exact thoughts. It really detracted from this episode IMO. They pretty much just reaffirmed that dude's fear of always being seen as a foreigner because of his appearance, lol. We didn't even get to see much of the actual card game at all. Just everyone obsessing over "foreigners" playing Karuta. Nevertheless, I'm excited to see Arata and Shinobu finally meeting (again?). Interested to see what their history is. |
| Way to throw the Engrish trope on its head Chihayafuru - that was great haha. The team of foreign students who learn to play karuta because they fall in love with Japanese culture was truly charming. And creepy Shinobu is creepy - poor Arata. |

| Everyone wore a shirt with "caruta" word on it or what? ;pp I'm glad Mizusawa had Chiba as their first opponents. New guy in the club could play and participants from Chiba were really passionate about karuta itself. They didn't treat it as a mere game, but as a real fun and a piece of genuine Japanese culture. The ending, I mean before Arata and Shinobu meeting on the stairs, was very beautiful in its simpleness. :)) |

| Lmao the second place shirts! Lol I thought the Chiba team only spoke English for a second, boy was I fooled. Mizusawa is finally winning some games. That was a nice, heartwarming match as well. An encounter between Arata and Wakamiya! I wonder what'll happen. |

| Dude they didn't return the bow after the "foreign" club bowed and said "let's have a good match"?? How rude!!! And oh yes every time they face a new team we're going to have a lot of back story while they are playing. Is this just your typical shounen anime? At least it's never TOO long, otherwise this series would really really drag out needlessly hype ending though |

| beautiful episode! i loved the english speaking part xD and how the "gaijin" people promised to get better for next year ^^ also, WHY does arata have such a girly phone? like, NOTHING else he owns is THAT girly :D i just find it a bit funny |

| That was an exciting match. It was funny how they were basically just Japanese lol at first, I thought this was another case of anime incorrectly portraying foreigners by basically using heavily Japanese-accented English, but turns out there was a reason for it. It got a chuckle out of me lol It ended the way I'd hoped. Mizusawa completely decimating them, but inspiring them to keep playing ^^ I'm so curious about Arata's relationship to Shinobu! What an entrance, Shinobu! |

| This ep... haha. The characters (mainly Tsukuba and the news anchors) are pretty cringe in their thoughts about foreigners, but it feels like the show itself is at least trying to show how those thoughts are wrong - These kids grew up in Japan, love karuta, and are for all intents and purposes "Japanese." Probably the most cringe parts were Tsukuba talking about black people and Porky being shocked a non-ethnically Japanese person could have "sense for the game." (Though Porky's comments could be part of a bigger discussion about nihonjinron). |
| Taichi being good enough at English to call the foreigners out for their little stunt is the most self-aware use of Engrish I've ever seen. Shinobu grabbing Arata's shoulder like a horror movie monster at the end there. |
| It's funny that they keep referring to them as foreigners when they stated they were born and raised in Japan. They are Japanese just not the same race as most Japanese people. |

| This is by far the funniest example of "engrish" I've seen. Such an unexpected, but silly twist. Definitely my favorite depiction of foreign-ancestry Japanese characters since Lisa Silverman. |
