To be fair to the Japanese otaku, I was responsible for one of the Love Live units sold. :P Though yeah, SAO wasn't good enough imo to import. Might not even buy it domestically, I just found it kind of average. :/ |

Why don't you just say ''japanese people should only buy animes that i like''? at least it's more honest And let me play too, in my opinion they shouldn't buy Panzer, Monogatari series, Horizon....instead they should buy Sakurasou, SSY and I don't have any problem with them buying SAO. The world would be so much better(for me) if everyone had the same tastes(as mine)....just joking XD |

hpulley said: Interesting to see a tail for GaruPan v4, I thought it was out of stock? It may still have some residue stock at other retailers or some late deliveries from Amazon, since its ranks aren't quite as stellar compared to say Love Live!, JoJo or SAO. I just wonder what its 2nd week will be? v2 and v3 had 2.3k 2nd weeks... but I think v4 will have a slightly lower 2nd week, as v4's 1st week was 6 days long compared to the other volume's 4 days (i'm counting pre-release as a day too). Something else interesting... v3 is now back in stock on Amazon and its price has increased from a 21% discount to 11% discount and lastly to a 0% discount. Amazon is saying that there are only 38 copies left, but i'm not sure how accurate this is lol. |

I am referring to people who post, "Anyone who likes X has shit taste." That is an obvious troll and you should not respond to them. No matter what you like or what they claim to like, if you respond to someone who is writing stuff like that you are just feeding the trolls. To contrast, if someone says, "I don't like X because of this, that and the other reason; but I understand how fans of that genre would like it," then that is the start a reasonable discussion to me. They are allowing for the possibility that other people may have their own personal reasons for liking it. |

It might surprise you, but not everyone follows anime sales... they might just check a topic once in a while on a whim and get surprise by sales. I've seen the sales topics on ANN where an editor was surprised the 3rd volume of SAO sold so well since they thought it was crap and shouldn't of sold. If even editors on major sites are surprised it was selling, I think it says that a lot of the more casual fans wouldn't keep up with sales too. I remember having to correct the same editor once when he was saying that Upotte and Sora no Woto were big sellers just like Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer when he was saying how people will buy anything that has cute girls and military stuff |

Swap 2 and 3 and I think all would have been well in the universe. But once again it does show the editor to be an idiot (IMO). |

This is out a LOT earlier than usual... but here is the Top 100 BD for this week. Source: http://www3.atchs.jp/test/read.cgi/urisure/1358138075/35 I am amazed at GaruPan v3's numbers! 1,618 this week, brings it to 32,465 and there is still plenty of stock left over at Amazon... EDIT: Forgot to mention that GaruPan's average has passed Persona 4's average... 31,118 vs 31,019, provided I calculated it correctly. The next threshold is AnoHana at 31,523. Love Live! v1 almost 26.5k now. Eva 1.11 continues on. 109 times charted! Eva 2.22 also 62 times, haha. It may probably drop more steeply in sales by v3 then. Yes, it did have a ticket in v2 as well so we can expect further dropping but honestly I am surprised it has done this well so far. Well but if you look at the Stalker points for v1 and v2, they were very similar... so you'd expect it to do similar numbers. v3's Stalker prediction really shows that it could very well drop quite severely. I guess it is surprising that it didn't drop as massively as Magi did from v1 to v2 as they also had event ticket apps. Probably not such a good example, as Magi is in its own league of sales drops, as was Ao no Exorcist. |

I'll not be able to finish my post until later so I'm just posting the data for now, in which case you've already got that covered so I'll wait until I have the whole thing done with all the per volume totals in a few hours. Also first time we've seen Eva 2.22 in a little while I think. Sorry jmal. Following sales has sort of become a hobby now. Ever since the SAO anime started airing, the curiosity got the better of me. No chance of leaving now haha. No worries, I like reading the comments you have on the all the sales on Mania. EDIT: I had a glance on Magi's sales... still dropping a lot I see. The drop from v1 is just cringe worthy now. |

Apparently the anime adaptation deviated a lot from the manga material. The v1 to v2 27% drop is probably on the high end of event ticket app drops as v2 also had an event ticket app! This could maybe explain the continued drops from v2 to v3 to v4 to v5. I mean the v5 1st week sales is 69% down from the v1 1st week sales... that is massive. |

I wonder if they're starting to regret greenlighting a sequel so soon. |

I saw some talk earlier on 2ch about people thinking it could make it as far as Angel Beats!'s average of 34,116. That might be a bit of a long shot... but v4 is looking to sell quite a fair number of units compared to the previous volumes with almost 30k in the 1st week. Maybe v5 and v6 may sell even more if they are adequately stocked. |

The RE BD releases this summer could add to the average, although since they are managing to restock the LEs (eventually) the REs might not add that much. Maybe 1k? 34k may really be possible if v1 can get up to the level of the rest. I really doubt v1 could get up to the rest unless it has indeed piled on a lot of sales come by the 2013 Yearly List. Assuming the DVD average will be around 1,276, then to keep the current BD average of 29,842, v5 and v6 need to sell that many of course. To make it to 34,116... it would need to sell 2,998 BDs per volume in addition. Assuming each RE BD adds 1k each, we still need 2k BDs from each volume. Yeah, it might actually be possible... if I did the calculations right. And that's assuming the DVD average stays constant but I doubt it'll add much more anyway. |

Maybe v5 and v6 may sell even more if they are adequately stocked. I think it has a chance, discs 5 and 6 contain the Pravda and Nishizumi fights respectively, I can easily see more people wanting these discs because of the great battle scenes. Plus, GuP is in an interesting position. It is a massive seller that is still flying under the radar to many people. This is because so many people tuned it out even before it debuted thinking this was just another Upotte that the fact that this show is awesome really hasn't overcome their initial skepticism. But as sales continue to climb higher, and more information about new stories come out, more and more people will want to see what this is all about. As for restocks, I think there is probably going to be a coordinated effort to market after the sixth volume comes out. If they had brains, they would time the release of the OVA to the effort to resell the entire series, maybe package it together or something.. |

Because GuP is skewed heavily towards higher priced BD vs DVDs, given current sales prices if GuP made it to the 34,164 level with the same proportions, it would match the total dollar amount that SAO's 35,753 total sales have achieved. |

jmal said: ¥1,704,690,000 - SAO, 16 ep, 6 vol 1 typo - that should be 8 vol, not 6. jmal said: Of course, SAO is two cour and two cour series virtually always cost less per episode (unless you're Kadokawa), so this isn't a completely fair comparison. SAO costs ¥2,864 per episode on BD while GirlPan costs ¥3,570. Still, it shows the importance of keeping disc count, episode count, DVD vs BD sales ratios, and MSRPs in mind. In the end, the GirlPan production committee is going to earn somewhat more return per episode than the SAO production committee, purely in terms of DVD/BD, merchandise and novel sales are another matter entirely. Average unit sales are only part of the story. Thanks for the details, you are absolutely correct. I was wondering about the costs when I wrote my post above. Where do you get those figures, would be very curious. |

SAO has 3 eps per disc (since it's two cour) except for discs 1 and 6, so 2+3+3+3+3+2 = 16 eps over 6 vols so far. I'm Leaving out v7 since it just started selling and would mess up the per-episode averages until it's had a few more weeks to get up to near full sales. I only counted v1-3 of GirlPan for the same reason (vol 4 just started selling). Thanks for the details, you are absolutely correct. I was wondering about the costs when I wrote my post above. Where do you get those figures, would be very curious. I track release details and sales and all that myself, so I have the data available locally on my computer for number crunching. Any late night anime (plus some others) gets added to my data with format, msrp, release date, sales by week, and various other data points. That is absolutely amazing. All credit to you. Another question if you don't mind. Vol7 for SAO seems to show a strong decrease in first week sales (only 21K), which suggests much lower sales for this vol (and future ones). Is there any truth to my theory, or am I missing some sort of data point? Just curious since if true it would erode their avg sales figure. |

jmal said: SatelliteCannon said: Have any of the volumes reached market saturation, or are they all supply-capped? Vol. 1 is 100% capped, it can't rank at all anymore unless a few stragglers hit the mid-year ranking. Bandai Visual is going to be (or already is?) restocking it at their web store but that store doesn't report to Oricon os the sales wont count. It's been out of stock at Amazon for a long time. It's stuck at 29,300 for BD only, DVDs never ranked. Vol. 2 last ranked in the 2013 04/15~04/21 list with 349 BDs, but is currently out of stock at Amazon. Currently 31,482 and may or may not go higher before the REs are released. The deadline for securing (from that encore pressing) a Vol 1 and Vol 2 Limited Edition BD from the Bandai Visual online store is May 12, 2013. It'll be delivered on June 10, 2013. It is sold at exactly the list price of ¥7,350. After May 12... I guess the only ways to get a copy is by paying the currently inflated prices on Amazon from a reseller or buy the Regular Edition BD or the DVD instead. |
