One of the most shameless milking of the fans' excitement for new anime content I have seen. Why not a season 2?

@Yubisoft They already did this with Princess Principal and it effectively killed the hype of the franchise. Although who knows, maybe they will make a second season if the films are popular? At least that was the case with the new Grisaia.

as someone who wasnt a fan of this i think i might be okay with this. ive been severely disappointed with tv series format more often than not so seeing a slightly higher quality in short movie is alright to compensate the slow release dates

This type of thing 1st happened to "Girls und Panzer". It was moderately successful at 1st until the fans noticed the type of formula being used for each film ending each time almost exactly the same way while all the hype started to die out due to how long one would have to wait in-between each new film. Where to this day there is still no news for "das Finale Part 5" or "das Finale Part 6", for an original franchise over a decade old now. It's as if the producers realize this franchise is completely dying and there is no urgency to conclude the story. It's almost been a full decade in it self since the rollout of this 6 part film idea. lol

@RobertBobert Nah, doubt it sadly. I'm probably gonna be in my 30's by the time all the GuP and PP movies are out. Which is crazy since I watched both of them when I was a teenager.

@ColourWheel @Tropisch It's really shocking and impressive in a bad way when you compare how big these franchises were in the first place and to what level their hype dropped during the "era" of films. Looking at GuP's current situation, I still find it hard to accept that they only had one season of anime. This development for PriPri makes more sense since it was mostly a seasonal hit, if you know what I mean, but GuP was so popular and ubiquitous in the 00s (including a mountain of manga that developed the universe, even alternatively, much wider than series) that it always seemed to me like it was a huge franchise with tons of anime.

This makes me wonder about the reasons for this decision for LR, since this show was one of the most successful (not even only among the original ones) anime in recent years in general. To the point that many tried to repeat this with their titles. They really didn't even try to develop this further?

I don't care about hype or not. The movie thing makes no sense, but if they're good also don't care. It's solidly in my PTW list.

@RobertBobert It helped in the beginning of GuP's popularity there were tank games that did collabs with it, and it was promoted a lot in Japan apparently, but the lack of marketing for the movies overseas is probably what killed that big amount of popularity, in exachange for more animation quality, they got less fans. Sad, but I'm just gonna hold and wait till the last two movies of it just to finish the series. Also, they barely have new figures of the characters either, especially the new characters, which probably took a hit to the revenue of the series.

@Tropisch I don't know what it was like with characters from other countries, but I still remember how much GuP was popular in Eastern Europe thanks to the aforementioned "tank games" and collaborations involving "Soviet" characters. Katyusha is probably still one of the most iconic Russian anime characters. But in our time, I haven’t seen people remember this franchise as a whole for a long time.

Please don't let these movies end up being a "Japanese theater exclusive", with the rest of the world having to wait for at least a year to watch them.

Sad, but true.

Actas held back GuP's success with their dirt slow release intervals between each Das Finale installment. They should take a page from the Space Battleship Yamato reboot, which ensured the gap between each film installment did not last for a year or more.
