What's the best anime graphics/artwork you've seen? It can be a single scene or an entire anime

For me the graphics style of 5cm per second really, really impressed me also the scene from angel beats with all the lights on the trees in Otonashi's (i think) past

Karas did CG the best. Sword of the Stranger for animation. ARIA for scenery.

My top 5 would probably be (not necessarily in any order):
Kuuchuu Buranko
Bakemonogatari
Mononoke
Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei
Katanagatari

Awww ~ thank you, *add all of them in my to watch list* :)
I watched Bakemonogatari and I love its art so I guess your ideal of art is the same as mine, I'll watch them thanks again.

Shinkai Makoto, not only his works being beautiful, he was nearly an one-man team in his early work. He got more staff after becoming famous.

Although I really haven't seen a lot of anime, but the cgi concert sequences in Angel Beats! were fantastic, and I really, really love Usagi Drop's artwork.

Hanasaku Iroha. I feel sorry for anyone streaming it LQ.
The Ef A Tale of Series also has well done art.

Pretty much all the recent movies too these days have spectacular art.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu edit
Evangelionn Movies
Kara no Kyoukai
Broken Blade for scenery.

Most works from Tatsuya Ishihara or Makoto Shinkai. I'm starting to get used to and enjoy Usagi Drop's artwork, and Ikoku Meiro no Croisée is rather pretty.

Other than that, nothing specific that comes to mind; most shows are at least decent in terms of quality animation.

Nichijou's art style looks the best. I love the way the characters are drawn.

I also love Kaiji's unique dark and gritty look.

Bakemonogatari's graphics are mediocre IMO.

Makoto Shinkai's works. Nothing else needs to be added.
Haibane Renmei had super awesome art all around with Yoshitoshi ABe's unique style and it had almost a watercolor feel.
Sora no Woto's backgrounds felt almost painterly to me and I feel bad for anyone who watched that show in LQ
ARIA, a series notorious for gratuitous scenery porn all over the place. Not to mention the characters were very pretty and well drawn also (sadly, less so than the manga)

Pretty much anything which Abe Yoshitoshi had a hand in, notably Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei and, if it ever comes out, Despera.

Aria is beautiful to such a level that nothing else really comes close, although its still weaker than it's manga counterpart.

The Rebuild of Evangelion films. The angel fights are incredible, especially the ones agains Ramiel, Sahaquiel and Zeruel. Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya comes to mind too. Top quality artwork throughout, lovely scenery and impressive animation work where necessary. Also, the Kara no Kyoukai movies are insanely pretty in places.

Anything involving Shinkai Makoto, so Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days and 5cm/Second.

CLANNAD has some rather pretty scenes throughout, especially the Illusionary Girl scenes. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex also has top quality scenes throughout both series. Mononoke, Kuchuu Buranko, Kaiji and Yojou-han Shinwai Taikei are all highly stylised and fit their respective series' perfectly.

Also, if you want shiny CGI, there isn't much better than the parade scene from Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. That thing is impressive even by today's standards.

Seirei no Moribito has gorgeous backgrounds.
A friend of mine particularly likes the art for Gankutsuou though I haven't watched it yet.
Hourou Musuko's art was really good too. It looked like watercolors.
Otherwise Bakemonogatari and Katanagatari as previously mentioned.

Some of my favorites:

Evangelion (movie rebuilds) everything looked amazing.

Level E - i really like the character art.

Serial Experiments Lain - the way the scenery looked so gloomy all the time with the blood in the shadows really helped to set a unique atmosphere perfect for the anime.

The Tatami Galaxy - very strange artwork but for some reason i loved it.

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - the mech detail and CG is very good.

Kaiji - honestly i hated this art at first but now it goes perfectly with the mood of the anime.

Anything from SHAFT (more specifically Madoka Magica and Bakemonogatari)

5 cm per second, Kara no Kyoukai and Le Chevalier D'eon had pretty good artwork. But my favourite has to be the artwork in most of the Ghibli films. The art is pretty simple, but the animation is fluid and the backgrounds are beatiful

For me, nothing beats the art style of CLAMP's manga. In particular, I loved their art in X, and in their more recent series like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic. They come up with some of the most beautiful and intricate costume designs, and their line art is flawless. Their color art is even more gorgeous. I have many of their art books.

Anime, however, is a different story. The art in the xxxHolic anime adaptation was lovely, but I felt that it was lacking in Tsubasa Chronicle. The Tsubasa OVAs were better quality, but I'm not sure that I regard it as "the best."

I found the artwork in Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) to be quite exceptional. For anime, I would perhaps go with that series, of the ones that I've seen.

It's not that they didn't have the budget, it's that they were barred from getting more graphic. Already they had plans for shit getting serious, but they had to go with the random crap in 25/26 since they were forced to making a new ending.

It was fixed with the movie.

I found the premise intriguing, although I did find some parts of the storyline strange and off-putting. Regardless, the art pretty much outshines everything else. Well, that and the OP song. :)
