It's also good to see dual-wield again. Kagemune helped them... Why? 30% of Cait Sith + Sylph treasury and tax collecting for a week is not attractive enough for him? Or did he come out of the closet for the awesome Spriggan? You must thank the cuts on ep16 for that.Players respecting each other etc.Shounen stuff. They could just cut Kagemune here and make Eugene just go away but as we said before the director cares a lot about the details.... As for this fight being the highlight of ALO...There is ONE fight that is better but seeing that they fucked up here with their priorities....I guess the fight will be like a touhou game just like it is in the Opening. Well I enjoyed the fight scene, even though so many others didn't. So much unnecessary fan service, please spend your money on the quality of the anime instead D: Does anyone feel like Kirito doesn't have enough drive? I mean the woman he's married to is going to get married to someone else against her own will while in a coma and trapped in a virtual reality. He feels too happy IMO, you think he would be a bit more grim and serious. You know, from what I've red, I'm getting happier and happier about the fact that I haven't read the light novels. I would probably be really disappointed. I think I'll just stay in my little bubble of enjoying the apparently really bad anime. |

Well the fight was interesting but I feel it ended far to quickly and easily. I mean were talking about a guy who suppose to be one of the strongest on the server and with an incredibly weapon who has been playing the game longer than Kirito . I mean if they want to get the gaming aspect right then it should at least try. I mean even goku got his ass beat heck even killed plenty of times. I mean they don't die permanently so I don't see why showing Kirito lose for once would be so bad. Oh well |

Still seems a bit too happy-go-lucky overall for my liking though. And Gods sake would it kill him to explain the situation a little bit, at least to the point of saying "sorry girls, I'm taken"? Not sure if this is a dumb question... But during the... Traitor drowning in power scene, there's 2 Slyph girls at his left and right thighs... Those are not players... Right? ![]() Or is this another A-1's original take on story again? ![]() Gatha say, I'm rather amused by the fact that he's sitting there drinking wine with his feet on the table instead of being out there leveling up his skills/playing the game... As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all. |

The Salamander guy needed to solidify the sword to actually hit Kirito, but Kirito raised the second sword to block it on the last second.AiCon said: Was it ever explained why Lyfa's sword could block Eugene's but Kirito's sword can't? It's this episode's 5 seconds of fame because the rest of it is so cliche, including the "It's a Gundam!!!!" moments when Kirito teleported in front of the Salamanders when they were behind them and emerged from a dust cloud. |

Although the fight did bring up something I realized they have not openly discussed in the game. Does ALO have real pain mechanics like SOA did? I don't honestly remember from the novels but I noticed the general did seem to be actively suffering from the stab wounds towards the end of the fight. Also Lyfa's former leader scene with the slave girls made me raise a eyebrow. Never actually was mentioned in the novel but that was some interesting imagery. My guess is that the sword phasing has an internal Cool down(very common in MMOs for proc items), so dual wielding nullifies it so you have a second chance to parry. KLANG! With a sharp metallic sound, Gram was deflected. What stopped it was Kirito’s exactly timed thrust using the greatsword in his right hand. Like threading the eye of a needle, perfect timing. Mechanincs weren't explained, fanlation is pretty tellibre and I don't have the original and can't read kanji anyway. So yeah. "think what you want situation", author can't be bothered to add a 3 sec internal cd attribute to the sword, this is more "mysterious" making Kirito more badass (I guess?). |

I don't expect them to have ufotable level quality (it's pretty obvious no one matches up to ufotable) but I would have expected an increase in quality over the usual slice-of-life at the very least. Being a LN reader I was hoping that the adaptation could redeem itself with this action-oriented episode but again it fell short. It seems like now that Asuna is out of the picture at the moment, they are trying their best to milk lyfa. They should have spent less time trying to provide fan service at every damn possible moment (what with all dat ass and breasts shots) and more on the action scenes where the flying looks awkward and action choreography is replaced with spamming flashes of lights. Hmm I definitely feel frustrated as well when they gloss over the humor and with of Kirito and over very important background information and context as well. Hmm I'm kind of at a loss about the animation....was it really that bad? D: I liked it x.x I wish they had spent a little more time explaining, perhaps using slow motion or something how Kirito countered the etheral shift. I wouldn't have gotten it without having read the LN before hand. One thing I gotta say, is they really super emphasized General Eugene's special Blood Armor pushing back Kirito lol. At the very least, at least they put enough time showing the dialogue wondering about Sigurd's motive and Sakuya's response to it. I wish they could've done the same with the parts Takuan_Soho mentioned though, specifically Kagemune unexpectedly saving their ass. |

My only compliments concerning the fight were some poor animations issues with facial expressions and during certain portions were the creators tried to use a blur effect and it failed. Neither SAO or ALO have physical pain mechanisms. It's all psychological but some scenes are overdoing it.And yeah that scene with Sigurd.... |

To answer the question about Sigurd controlling the army. The translated light novel had a slightly different response than what Sigurd said in the anime, "...Those incompetent lizards. So... Sakuya, what do you want? Reprimand money? Kick me out of the Ministry of Power? But if you lose me as army commander, what happens to your political power..." Personally, I think he was very confident he would not get caught, much less exiled so his response wasn't entirely well thought-out anyways. In response to the question regarding the etheral shift, the light novel never really explained more than what Malestel quoted from already. But I think it makes sense anyways, in order for the sword to phase through one object and hit another it obviously has to materialize again. If Kirito deflects the sword before it hits him but after it materializes then you get the perfect timing mentioned. Oh, I just remembered another section further elaborating on the etheral shift as well: "Before the Ethereal Shift could even activate, Kirito's sword hit Gram's side and deflected it. Eugene's attack grazed Kirito's left shoulder and moved to his back. Right after... " That probably confirms there's a cooldown of some sort although never explicitly mentioned... |

Speaking as an anime-only viewer, I must say this episode certainly picked up the pace of the series after a few lackadaisical moments. I'm reading that there is some hate with how this episode has been adapted, but from the perspective of someone who hasn't read the LN it was fairly promising. Looking forward to what happens next after what we were shown in the closing moments. |

It's about time that something happened, there are only 5 episodes left and I wonder if it'll be a lame ending or if something kick ass will happen after all. Probably the first, it would really fit the show. |
