An anime which takes time to setup the setting and story. I can see great things coming out of this. Great presentation, animation and attention to the small details. It also set up the seriousness of the game quite well. Edit: Apparently, Yuki Kajiura on board to do the OST. From the promo's, I also am getting good vibes from Asuna. The stars are aligned. I haven't felt this anticipation for the next episode since Madoka. |

SIGNIFICANTLY better writing than Accel World, and the environment and animation were very good, too. Definitely looking forward to more. |

Pretty unremarkable so far, but it gets bonus points simply because I'm into RPG's. In the first episode, there was only the premise, but it's pretty obvious where this is going, so I'll be watching for how they handle the execution and development. Seems like a cross of Mirai Nikki and Accel World, both of which were quite disappointing. Hopefully it does a better job than both. |

Finally! SAO! Kirito!!! Asuna!!! Been waiting for this one, gonna rewatch to see if they left any spoilers in the background or something. First though, its starting out in real time rather than a flashback, Wonder if they're going to chronologically tell the story, like Kirito becoming a "Beater" and turning the crowd against him? the characters are just as awesome as in the LN, so I;m hoping that they can carry out the rest of the show just as well. The ending's full of awesome showing Asuna and Kirito having their dinner, wonder if that's the one where Kirito gets the rare hare. I like how they handled the Sword Skills effects doesn;t feel intrusive but further judgement on that will have to wait until later fight scenes. Finally the Announcement of their reality, I felt was carried out pretty decently, maybe quickly, but it was good. I liked that they showed the panic and fear that came out as the initial shock wore out and fear and reality set in. Yay! for showing characters like Asuna and the rest. KingofConquerors said: Iniser said: Like you I wonder how exactly they will incorporate the second volume. Using flashbacks would not be fitting for anime format. However, I feel that Asuna would be lost as the main heroine with all the other heroines appearing. yeah i know, i myself also found myself wondering once with regard of who would make a better love interest for kirito, the girl in Kirito's first guild (Sacchi, if i'm not mistaken) or Asuna....which made my heart ache even more when the full extent of the story Kirito told Asuna in vol.1 about his past was revealed...... Personally I think that if they include the, go the route of chronological order,I.E., showing how Kirito and Asuna met, or even just developing that and showing it,explain their relationship then it will make a solid foundation for Asuna as the main heroine.Since if you show their history it can help with developing them. Since it will show that they have a strong connection and even if he leaves and goes on his adventures, you can tell/feel that Asuna is the main heroine, and when they reunite you can feel their deep bond and the impression they have of each other and the impression they leave on the story. Also showing Asuna's back story will help to empathize her importance as the main heroine, seeing as she also drives the story in quite a few arcs. whew, I think I rambled, but I hope I got my point across. For one I hope, if it goes well, that they animate the rest of the novels as well! I can't wait til next week for the next episode of SAO!!! |

I agree with you When the 1st volume was translated it feel a little out of place because Asuna suddenly love kirito and there's a little development because they do a big time skip, but if the anime do it in chronological order then we can see the character development much better. |

They should do that. Doing things in chronological order and incorporating the side stories would make more sense. But they might go the Haruhi route just to troll everyone. Which would be sad since we find out how everyone from Kirito, the <<Army>> and Asuna already knew each other very early on and that it took a huge leap of faith (2 months was it?) to even get a group united to try the first boss. Plus we get to see Kirito's level grinding with the Mechanical Ants to realize that he truly did work hard and ain't no Mary Sue that everyone seems to tag him with. |

Too bad they skipped Kirito's first day. An intense first death for the anime! On a side note, I wonder why people don't like the concept of Mary Sues. I'd assume Hoshii Miki from im@s, Id from Id, and a few more would be considered Mary Sues - though they do have considerable backing of fans. If it was simply that the character is talented, then they could even put Asuna in there. ...Because pretty much what all 'Mary Sues' have in common in anime tend to either have incredible 'justice' or be talented. I only get annoyed at a character if they're too naive in extreme circumstances, and even that threshold is very hard to reach. These naive characters tend to be supporting characters, though. |

If the head gear kills them by microwave radiation then why don't the police/hospitals just use RF/microwave shielding around the person's head and then kill the power to the servers? I'm not sure if this is explained later on or not but it's relatively easy to block microwave radiation waves. I suppose it might be a little hard shoving material under the head gear and over the person's head but judging from the photos of people with the head gear on, it looks possible. Could also just put a large magnet(s) to the head gear to fry the circuit board. Even if the battery still works, it wont be much use if the head gear doesn't function. Just think of this as the matrix. The microwave is most likely directly in contact with your cortex (brain). I don't think you can tamper with it. Also, it might be easier just to clear the game at that point. And the outside world should provide support for the players. At one point, it's just too much of a hassle to break the system. Also, I don't think finding the creator is going to help. He might just as well hide in the VR world and if you try to torture him he can just kill all 10000 players. He has 10000 hostages under his control. |

This is one of the central themes of this series as it would later unfold. The psychological impact of being put into a <<death game>> where stepping out of the cities would increase the chances of death and how people cope with that reality. |

just want to confirm something KuroyukiHime is kinda related to Kirito? as read: While he still didn't know why he was so convinced about that, Haruyuki started speaking piece by piece. "............It was weird, but he was amazing. His weapons were two swords......Which he could swing as if they were weightless, I was almost unable to track his special moves." "Two......swords." KuroyukiHime furrowed her small eyebrows while murmuring to herself. But she stared blankly at Haruyuki then immediately returned to her normal facial expression while encouraging him to continue. "No, there's nothing. Then? Did you win?" "Ah, well......he was disconnected just before the conclusion......but, if it continued, I am sure I would lose. My final attack probably couldn't reach him." "Ho. Being able to defeat you in close combat. What's the color and level of that person?" Haruyuki shook his head with a troubled face to KuroyukiHime's question. "About that, either it was a system error or he used some kind of a filter...... color name and level were both not shown. Just the color of his appearance was, well......, really black." Towards the «Black King» who narrowed her eyes again, Haruyuki didn't think too deeply into her reaction, and threw the question he had thought of during the battle at her. what was she thinking? |

MidnightPride said: MMRpg is not all about grinding. Its also about making new friend and ChitChatting.. ^.^1 Huge thing though is I wouldn't mind grinding for hours if I had VR but, doing it on a mmo can make it feel really boring :S And thats why we need full body VR!! Well , this is just opinion. Some player focus really hard on just lvling just like the green king from AW. While I seen some people remain on level 1 just to chitchat and make friend just like Kawahara Reki lol ( His avatar always show level 1 only ) |

First of all, WTF?! 18 pages for the first episode topic discussion after a day? That is like a record? :o As a big fan of MMO, I say this is a cool Anime. This is nowhere near Accel World. Though I love Hime, I hate Haruyuki. The character here in SAO seems to have a lot of emotional problems. That's kinda disappointing. I couldn't care less what happened in the novel but as an Anime fan who saw SAO for the first time. I say it's ok. Quite disappointed in the first half but the second half made me realize why is it the most anticipated show this season. |

Oh for the discussion earlier about whether this will be chronological, the next episode will be called "Beater" you guys should know what that implies. Yes, the next episode will probably be Kirito's first month or so where he'll create or affirm the term Beater (Beta tester and Cheater) on himself after beating the first boss with the <<Proto-Army Guild>> (Just calling it that because it has all the side characters from the future Army Guild) to prevent persecution of Beta Testers like <<Argo the Rat>>[/spoilers] |

For me mmorpgs are all about grinding. And raids. And grinding. All this while being alone or with a close friend. It's not a place for me to socialize, and I usually don't because I don't wanna waste time talking to others. @Netto Yeah where he meets Asuna for the first time and gets his pimp coat. Then he's gonna walk the solo road for a long time... |

MyAmy said: Pretty nice start and I like it but my concern is that why is the main hero had a homo like relationship I hope they get rid of that as soon as possible !! this has already been cleared on the last pages, i will repeat what i said: their just taking the piss out of each others real looks like buddies, like notsureifsrs said kirito is girly looking while klein looks old, in the LN it describes it this way although it may not come across the same way in the anime its a pretty emotional moment for kirito and klein, they knew each other for only a little while but they became friends easily, if you want slightly more detail open spoiler kirito is antisocial in real life and doesn't have that many friends so kirito was happy that he had made a good friend like klein, he wanted to tag team with him and level up and gather resources in the next town with him but klein valued his own friends well being aswell, kirito knew that it would take too long to gather them and if there were more people coming along they would need to share the resources and it would decrease their chance of survival, knowing what kirito was thinking klein didn't force him to go with him and understood that kirito isn't a bad person and he shouldn't drag him down with him and left him be, kirito also understood what klein was thinking about and realized that klein was really good person and a valuable friend, so he felt guilty about being a selfish person and valuing his own life over others and taking all the resources for himself and leaving his only friend, which was why kirito was screaming in the end and vowed to survive to meet him again Netto_Azure said: Oh for the discussion earlier about whether this will be chronological, the next episode will be called "Beater" you guys should know what that implies. lolwtfbbq. 18 pages and ranked #31 already? o.o I personally was expecting more, only being introduced to the series via the ecstatic outcry by the fans of the light novel, but i still thoroughly enjoyed it. I know this is based on the light novel, but if they could've just fleshed out Kayaba's reason to effectively indirectly murder 10000 people a bit (a lot) more, it could've been better. "I just wanted to admire my work" or whatever he said is an invalid reason. That aside, I've always been a major fan of virtual reality shows, and based on the already huge fanbase that this has, the light novel must be really something. So, fans of the SAO light novel, I'll be in your care for now. :) 4.2/5 I'm really hoping for a three-cour or more airtime for this. |
