Great episode but I'm curious as to how Victorica was able to grab Kujou when he was falling when earlier she had a lot of trouble picking up an empty chair. Love the show so far though.

As Robz86 said it could be this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hysterical_strength
It's like a spell with long cd :D

I understand that, but a falling person that is much heavier than yourself who is in motion downward is harder to justify than a still object, especially when getting a grip is something that needs to be done in that situation. Her body didn't really have the weight and she wasn't really grabbing on to anything.

Maybe if he grabbed onto something, but still a good episode I just thought that part was silly.

OK, I seriously don't get how Victorica figures these things out. I mean, hiding in a grandfather clock to kill that guy? Plus it happened like 10 years ago, which means she killed him when she was like 16?!
Plus, how did Kujou get her to confess?! I mean, their voices sound NOTHING ALIKE, obviously, and the magic words? Seriously, WTF?
Cordelia's alive, it seems
I was misled into thinking this would be an actual mystery show, it appears. Hooray, romance development, woot woot ... -_-" Hope it doesn't disappoint like Yakumo does, although I have a feeling we're getting there. Victorica is actually annoying me more and more each episode, even though I'm probably supposed to be all "AWWW YOU'RE LIKE SO CUTE" OTL
Plus, I thought Harminia burned the bridge? Not like "oh here I'm going to spread some fire HERE ON THE LEFT and HERE ON THE RIGHT so you can WALK RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE KAYS". Plus, it's actually impossible for her to have gotten out so fast and set the fires. The way the fires were jumping ALL OVER TOWN with like TWO SECONDS BETWEEN THEM. Unless she's teleporting or something, that's not happening
Cue fangirl squeals over next episode and blushing Victorica, please

About the clock thing. It does some how make sense since the current elder did say that other people did not agree on the time of death. The Clock was supposed to be ringing by that time, but since maid was in there it did not ring. I think it was just a guess that the maid was the culprit be cause of the way she was acting. And she was insane, she though the mantra was saying something else. The whole fire incident is probably just sloppy work from the studio.

So there were two able-bodied men and one relatively able-bodied woman who crossed that bridge, and none of them did a thing when Kujo and Victorica were in danger? Lolwut?

Also, this might just be me being slow, but where the heck did Harminia get that spear from anyway? She didn't have much time to grab one, and it's not like she could've hidden it under her dress...

I did like this arc, though, even if I would've liked more about the magician (Brian Rascoe?).

And I was strangely reminded of the batshit-crazy janitor in that one episode of FMP! Fumoffu when Harminia was torching the village/kingdom. Realistic? Not at all. LOL worthy? You bet.

I thought some of the parts of this episode were...stupid, to put it simply xD Like the fires starting in various parts of the village so fast...Did Harminia use her spiderman powers to jump such distances or what? Or when Victorique was holding Kujo and nobody helped her? Not that a girl this small would hold Kujo for long with ONE hand anyway...oh well.
At least it's still pretty.

Also, Brian Rosco=definitely the magician guy.

ok, what i thought about the comments about this episode is that obviously some of our VIEWERS ARE STUPID, seriously, they kept asking how Harminia was able spread a fire in the village!???, then why OVERLOOK THAT ALL OF A SUDDEN we have our gang CAUGHT UP with her on the bridge??? did Victorica and the others use spidey moves too!?

Seriously, as you can see it is clearly in fast forward, why would they waste time showing Harminia throw torches all over the place along with Victorica and the others chasing her if they could do what they have done here. oh my such simplicity become idiocy because some of us fail to comprehend such simple tactic in a series composition. it clearly is a save of time and budget in their part.

and for no one helped her, haven't anyone saw the background when Victorica was running to save Kujo, no one is around her, it is clearly IMPLIED that Glaviel and others run off knowing they were following behind,

and for Victorica holding on to Kujo with one hand,

adrenaline rush, you're able to exert an unimaginable strength not in your consent, you have someone important to you about to fade away and you're just going to let go, and besides Victorica caught Kujo's wrist, not just the arm, so that helped in able to lift him for that amount of time

if still not satisfied, then let us try it for ourselves for comparison if this people can't believe such act ^^

How would they know, though? Sure Victorica told them they'd be fine against an insane, pole-arm-wielding maid, but she's also a pint-sized teenager who's spent her life cooped up inside, and her bodyguard's just a kid himself; who'd really take her for her word? You'd figure Grevil at least would stay nearby to make sure they were safe, since Victorica is his sister and all, illegitimate or not, but no, they all just either ran off to save themselves or stayed there and did nothing. Either way, it doesn't paint them in the most positive light imaginable.

Too bad they did have mental health facilities back then; she definitely could've used one. Harminia was so over the top that I wasn't very fond of her to begin with. When Ambrose let her go she made them instantly regret it. My kingdom for a good archer in that scene.

The best thing about this little arc was that we got something to grasp onto in
the future. It looks like Kujo and Victorique are destined to be separated, and
that's only making their bond stronger.

I think people are being a bit too harsh on this anime.

As AmberFebruary said, the "three second arson" is just a variation in pace. Whether this variation was a good or bad decision is debatable, but there was no maid-jutsu involved in that scene.

Furthermore, this work more or less knows its psychology. For the poor maid, even if you chatted about yesterday's dinner in a dark, ominous voice, she would think you were talking about the murder; it is an elementary psychological response.

Another psychosomatic response people are ignoring concerns the infamous distraction coins. We easily convince ourselves with barely a second's thought that we would check the origin of the dropped coins, but that may not always be the case. People tend to be proactive in familiar surroundings. If you see a plate falling, whether you are able to catch it or not, you will follow its trajectory and focus almost singularly on it for a short time. Since the people reading this are already a polluted sample, we can experiment on our relatives: throw a plastic ball or something out of nowhere from some corner and observe their reactions. In many cases, they will first instinctively reach for the ball, then trace back the trajectory and try to find the source.

Of course, I am not saying an uneducated child of visibly low intelligence and considerable neuroticism knew these facts as such; the little maid probably just clumsily assembled a mess of incoherent ideas into a barely working plan that happened to work. Justifying the actions she took is not difficult given her state of mind. Doctors know this very well: they tell you you are going to die of cancer in a few months, and you immediately find yourself trying to suppress an irrational hostility towards them. Now try being a small uneducated child of visibly low intelligence and considerable neuroticism; suddenly such actions do not seem so unlikely, even though they do not seem any more rational, either.

The less believable aspect of that story is the fact that this disturbed child managed to execute a three- or four- step plan without succumbing to her mania in the meanwhile. One would expect a first-time murderer to panic right after the deed or at least mess the rest of the plan up. Even so, with some mild suspension of disbelief, you can accept the setting. For an anime, is is not as far-fetched as people here are making it to be.

Indeed, there are several actual problems with the execution of some of the plots; saying that they do not make sense is a bit too much, but, patched together, they certainly form a 'string of unlikely events'; the fact that the whole storyline relies on that string gives it an air of artificiality that understandably bothers some viewers. And of course, hysterical strength does not enable you to break the laws of physics. The bridge scene was clearly a literary device to emphatically expose and portray Victorique's feelings; the fact that so many people are hung up on it means it succeeded.

As other posters said, I do not think we should be treating this as a usual mystery anime, where the viewers are given hints so they can try solving the cases themselves; I think we are supposed to tag along on this trip around early 20th century Europe, seeing all the good and the bad and the ugly (especially the ugly), escorted by a transcendentally intelligent Sherlock (actually, Victorique's mind and MO are much more akin to Poirot's than Holmes's) and an ever impressionable but kind-natured and charming Watson.

And of course, the viewer's enjoyment will depend heavily on how they feel about Sherlock being a loli tsundere and Watson having the whiniest voice since Whinnie the Poo ran out of honey on a Sunday morning. As for me, I do not care; I am enjoying this anime for the thrills and for the frills and the lush and verdant hills :)

Yea and there's also the fact that she was actually ON THE BRIDGE where the fire was burning for a good while whereas her brother actually ran to the other side almost immediately.

If anything, Victorique inhaled much more smoke than her brother.

Once again, Kujo is also a wimp in this episode. The worst male character can be is when they given up and had to rely on little girls for help.

Vic's once again amazed me. I thought it was the elder who killed the previous elder but this episode managed to trick me into believing that.

The theory of white pigeon is also interesting where people tends to look at the where object falls instead of from where it came.

Grevil finally shows what he's all about in this episode. Hope for more in the next one.

And that last scene, is it Brian and Cordelia? Since as Vic's said something like this in this episode;
The people of Seyren are short but highly intelligent -- kinda like Vic

Arrgh this Kujou kid is getting on my nerves now. All he does is scream Victorique every 5 second and he doesn't do anything useful.

What's up with Harminia, no eye-hand coordination with the spear? How was she even a maid without good eye-hand coordination because she kept missing every charge she was doing with the spear as Kujou was standing still on the same spot. All he got was scratches from the spear? lol I thought that was quite funny. And how the hell did Harminia get to light 4 fires, let alone get on the roof so fast.

I thought the bridge incident was a little too over-dramatic. How did Kujou faint and Victorique didn't, and how the hell did she hold onto him for so long until he gained consciousness. lol It was sad that no one helped her get Kujou up though. :(

Anyways, I thought it was a good episode overall since we got to know about Victorique's past and the introduction of some new characters.

Unfortunate, but she set it at all in motion when she committed the murder... Sealed her fate in the process of trying to prevent it.

No way she could've known it at the time, of course, but I guess those are intended to be the perils of seeing one's future.

Another great arc.

I really liked how Ambrose told Kujou that they asked the same question, that was cute :3
Victorique not wanting to hold hands because of the bruises was also nice in a ways :D
(I agree that Kujou should get a little tougher, because even though he always goes in like a man to defend Victorique he always gets knocked down to the ground and get help from someone else :S )

So the magician was the man who supported the village all along, and he seems to be "friends" with Victorique's mother. I wonder what will come out of this.
