Far faster than what I expected. Great mix of 8bits, pixelated portraits and DraQue elements (the hero was even costumed in several heroes).

5/5

@LucaLink Hum, it's free on Crunchyroll, the company who bought the internet broadcast rights .for several countries.

@neonie The previous series were I guess (based on their early evening broadcast). I doubt this one is since most kids are certainly asleep past midnight.

@Dark_Kain @Anny Didn't the makers announced the current show would deviate from the manga as soon as the 2nd episode ?
edit @Dark_Kain I couldn't find where I had read it, that's why I asked.

This has the potential to be one of the best shows of the season. Absolutely enjoyed it and will check out the 90's show sometime.

Source?

Seems inconsistent with the 2nd preview to me: the scenes there seems faithful to the original story.

And at the very least the duel with the boss of the dungeon seems identical

This requires adapting up to chapter 10 of the manga and is probably going to be in the next episode.

So IMHO it is impossible for the story to deviate during episode 2.

Compared to the old series, this one is very fast paced to the point it just rushes through the plot and it's damn noisy with little to no quite moments to settle down. I know this is going to reduce the filler moments but this one is overkill.

Please check the 1994 version and the 2000 version. The previous '94 & 2000 anime version are both much better than the 2017 remake. The pacing is so fast in the 2017 remake, its unbelievable! For many people its hard to keep with the story and understand the jokes at this pace. They removed so many jokes and events from the original anime and manga in the 2017 remake. The 1994 version followed the manga faithfully till volume 4 (till episode 31 in the 1994 anime, the remaining episodes were original content but were very enjoyable.). Volume 5 till 11 were covered in the 2000 version"Doki Doki Densetsu Mahoujin Guru Guru".

Although for people who don't like the fast pace of this version I also recommend the old show, but when it's not the case I prefer to recommend it once they finish watching the remake.

From my personal viewpoint this remake is better, the old show is still pretty good but was artificially slowed down with Anime original gags (Hi Gails&Ena). I feel that in this version the jokes have the perfect duration and the characters are more expressive making the comedy more enjoyable. Also we have the "Mahoujin Guru Guru Chibi Theather" for cut material of the episodes... sadly nobody is translating that.

I prefer the old version when we're talking about heartwarming moments because there are things that the remake doesn't explain well.

and despite the fillers the old show is more attached to the manga when it should to be (although I hate the last anime original arc with all those Self-conclusive episodes).

Sadly Doki Doki Densetsu doesn't have good subtitles, sometimes could be annoying. I'd love a Re-sub.

tl;dr: Guru Guru 2017 is a good example of remakes done right and adapted to the present without losing its own identity

The humor seems to be hinging on a lot of yelling, which I'm not usually a fan of. But, the other gags work, so this will probably be a fun watch.

I thought this was a straightforward children's show up until the risque part seen in my spoiler tag, in which I had to check the timeslot. Guess it's aimed at an audience that grew up with the original, though I still think it's fine for older children (based on the tone set by the first episode).
