I have a bad habit of playing music loudly in my earphones (especially when sampling the drum 'n bass genre), but I only do this to have a more immersive music experience.
Then again, I haven't noticed too much hearing problems recently.

What about you? Are you a big audiophile or do you prefer to keep the volume at a comfortable level?

I'm a huge fan of music, but I seriously get irritated if there's exams going on and I can hear some guy's heavy rock music from across the room (that happened twice this year, the guy is a serious tool).

Even if exams aren't being taken, I get the audio as high as I can without anyone outside of a 2 foot radius being able to hear it. I love my music, but I respect people's preferences more.

I tend to turn it up loud so I can observe and appreciate all of the different instruments, it's a habit of mine and I also have absolute pitch so I can pay attention to all the different pitches of the notes and whatnot.
But I don't do it for prolonged amounts of time because besides having absolute pitch my hearing is very sensitive and my ears and head would start to hurt if I did it for a long time.Actually it might not even be that loud to others since I hear everything a bit louder than your average person.

Unfortunately, Hearing problems is hereditary for me. Which is why I like to play it safe by keeping the music at a sensible volume. I know that this will prevent the dreadful ear and head aches from being triggered. Besides, I'm the only one who's listening to it anyways.

I like listening to various genres and dubstep used to be one of them. Unfortunately I haven't been listening to that as of lately because when the beat drops, it feels like it's fucking my brain out so hard, gottdamit!

If I really want to put some hot chuuns on blast then I'd obviously use my surround system.

IPhone has a max volume at 16 squares. When using earbuds, I usually listen at 8. When working out, listen from 10-12. Probably going to go deaf soon, but oh well. It can't be helped.
When I listen to music on my laptop with earbuds, I usually listen at 30/100. Funny thing is, apparently EVERYONE in my class can hear the audio from my laptop, so I'm not sure if 30 is loud or not.

I listen pretty loudly, despite having some minor hearing problems. I'd consider myself a bit of an audiophile, and I guess my Sennheiser HD558s are a bit of a "poor audiophile's headphones" lol. They are open headphones though, so I have to be careful with the volume, but I only use them at home anyway.

Since I don't want to suffer from Hearing Loss, I keep the Volume as low as possible that is still comfortable to hear. With my MP3-Player, I can even keep it at the lowest Volume (1/25) and it's still a bit too loud when it's absolutly quiet around. For Headphones, I try to balance the Volume with a small Control Wheel whenever some Anime Series have some People shouting some random Stuff out of the Blue. >__>

I also prefer Loudspeakers over Headphones, as it's more comfortable and less risky.

I listen mainly to:
Touhou music
Anisong

I listen to the first one at a low volume, to relax.
I listen to the second one medium-high depending on how much I like the song.

Usually at a volume of 10 or 12. I can still hear my surroundings well enough at that point.
Just need to find out how to quote this every time so I can dodge the stupid 30-character limit.

Depends on background noise. If it's quiet where I am, I won't put my music loud in my earphones
If my environment's noisy, I'll listen to my music really loudly
The latter is definitely not great for my ears though

I love it loud. I still try to either use earphones or keep the volume low enough so it doesn't annoy my neighbors.

I have taken a bit of hearing damage already though, which is because I never used earplugs in my previous band's practice sessions.

Low/confortable level volume, I've never liked to hear loud music. If I did I guess I'd probably feel that it's not too healthy or something.

When I decide to listen to music while falling asleep, it's like on the lowest possible volume. If I listen to music while playing some video games, in which game sounds/dialogues aren't that important, usually I still listen to it on a fairly low volume. And when I'm listening to music on my earphones , I listen on the max volume.

It's usually on a fairly high volume, if I'm listening music from my phone. (Near max) The exception to this is when I'm in the bus or in public, since it would be rude if others could hear my music.

If I'm on my laptop, it's usually a lot more soft.

I have a noise notch at 3khz from band and orchestra activities. Even a very minor loss like this means listening to music becomes a chore. It's like I'm hearing everything underwater.

I also don't think the majority of people realize just how bad headphones are for your ears. You're literally strapping soundcannons to your head. Very little distance between the source and the inner ear means very little time for the noise energy to dissipate. The problem is compounded by the fact that it's pretty fucking hard to gauge how "loud" something is. I distinctly remember one friend saying "nah, I don't listen to it that loud." Look over at his iPod, volumes set at like 75%. What's that on an iPod? 90-95db? 40 minutes of exposure before possibly permanent damage? Maybe less?

I only really ever listen with earphones, and I listen to it pretty loud so I get the bass and get into it.

I won't listen with earphones in my car, and listen to the music much lower.
