THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Don't know why but I really enjoyed this episode and I like that Megumi girl, Haruka's sister. Meanwhile, it seems as Quon has an odd relationship with her brother or maybe i'm just imagining it.

Also, the scene where Ayato welcomed Haruka back home was obviously a homage to episode 2 of Evangelion.

Um...why did he need to unzip the back of Quon's dress just to brush her hair? And why is he wearing a woman's house robe? What the hell is going on in that house?

Yeah . . . Is Quon really his younger sister? That was kind of . . . Anyways, still think that Ayato should have dipped out of there, I feel like he is still in a bed of snakes, even if it does seem warm and friendly.

I'm really liking this anime very much so far. The slow pacing, the nice soundtrack fits it perfectly. Another well made character is introduced in this episode. It seems Ayato has quite the luck with the ladies XD
The comedic scenes are well blended with the serious moments. Also, Quon's supposedly older brother is kind of a crossdresser? It also seems he has a sister complex. O_o
And for people complaining this to be a clone of Eva, you might as well say Eva is similar to Gunbuster because both have a lot of themes in common.

A great episode. Full of character development and a lovely little quote at the end.

I don't see any motivation behind his actions at all. Why he fought D1 in the previous episode? And why he returned back to the base after they treated him as crap? Why he didn't try to get back to his home? And now he is being seduced into staying... ok now I see it - the same as in Evangelion, the protagonist just follows the girls in hopes of getting laid.

Hey

What do you know

RahXephon ain't as annoying if the mecha shit didn't exist. Ayato's been nothing but a little shit since ep1, but his "fuck you/fuck it" attitude lately is what makes him less annoying.

He gets straight to it. "You don't like it? Then fuck it, I'm outta here."

But this romance thing just isn't working out. This garbage should be listed as harem instead.

From the five episodes I've seen, RahXephon seems to operate in a highly subdued on to the next thing nature. Usually this is done through apathy but here it's done through the pretense of warmth.

The characters operate like androids that just look like humans but have no underlying characteristics and motivation that make them truly human. But the androids in question are pleasant so it's easier to ignore.

Why isn't Ayato thinking about his alien mother or his friends back at Tokyo jupiter? Why doesn't he want to go back home? Why does he forgive them so easily and just take all the developments so matter-of-fact?

Why does Haruka care so much about what he thinks of her? But the trick here is the show does this as a portrayal of warmth and pleasantness instead of apathy so the likability factor makes it easier to forgive or ignore.

It's like the opposite of Black Lagoon. Rock also enters a "new" world and leaves the old one but that is heavily explored. We see his thoughts and feelings change during the series as well as get different perspectives on it from different characters. Different events of the story help in this. The coping of that change of lifestyle is the main theme.

The cinematography and some of the writing make for cute romance scenes but it really hobbled by the fact that Megumi was just introduced in this same episode. Hayato and she carry on like they've had crushes on each other for years. Strangely and badly done.

Blue blood, blue Sakuras, so did the guy have/had enough dead Mulian bodies to do that?

It's like they split Misato into to two; Haruka and Elvy.

At this point I had suspicions that Quon was adopted. She talks like Reika does but even odder.

Megumi interacting with Ayato and experiencing a temporal culture shock was fun. (I'm sure they had Ramune back then lol).

even though people say this is a NGE copy(which it is) I still enjoy it, especially considering Ayato is a bit more assertive than Shinji
in particular when it comes to girls

Nice episode!! I love how it slowly transition to a more relaxing episode.

So the Red Hair Girl's last name is Quon? What a lovely name :)

Even got a new girl as well. Sayoko O__O

Also, didn't expect Megumi's sister to be Haruka. It's even surprising how similar this is to NGE really.

Especially Shinji living with Misato for now.

Also, Haruka and Elvy seems to be best buddies despite having some tantrum in the early episodes.

Lots of drama, not surprised that Ayato was angry at Haruka for lying to him. But at least they have made up.

In Shinji's case. It would probably take 2-3 episodes before she forgives Misato XD

On to the next one!

Cliched until it isn't.

Couple of things that must be said. I DO NOT like shounen romance, so I loathe all the romantic development. But so far, we've seen Ayato blushed to at least 4 different girls and women so I wouldn't be surprised if the show is trying to make some sort of point akin to Evangelion in this regard. It's sort of like the romance is deliberately shit to then subvert the expectations, which I think is kinda cheap but eh, to each their own.

Also Quon fan service was weird as fuck, until that ending. Even if I knew it as soon as I saw the suspiciously chaste dude in his robe, that was still pretty wild. The hilarious incest implications (better when you strung the simple but surprisingly effective events) and that ominous final line were honestly kinda top tier. But yeah, pretty average show in general that pulled me in because of these small moments of "oh shit".

Did I miss something? The way Ayato says "Mu? You mean Churchwardens?" made no sense to me. That was a clear opportunity to give the viewer some information about what exactly is happening in this show and they deliberately avoided doing so. Its 5 episodes in and basically nothing has been explained which is too much and really starting to become a drag.

And the traditional teenage intense emotional volatility is not my cup of tea these days either. Its not inexcusably cliche writing yet but introducing new characters just to have everyone be surly to each other over every little thing is annoying. Yeah, Megumi doesn't want some random dude to move into her house but baiting him to get mad and then getting mad that he gets mad is dumb as shit. Either be mean to him or ignore him.
