Do you still listen to your mainstream music.

I personal don't, it is all hip-hop and pop music in Australia. I love Rock, Metal and Gangsta Rap.

If by mainstream, you mean the shit they spam on the radios and whatnot, then heavens no. I could hardly even name any of these newfangled popstar and idol faggots. The only stuff I've unwittingly heard now and then is utterly gruesome, whether it's trite "HURR DURR I'm so fucking cool" gangsta rap with one beat or terrifying autotuned pop.

Nietzsche quote about sick music goes here.

I could listen to things that were main stream from about 5 years ago back. I have yet to for the love of me get into anything playing on the radio since. Am I narrow minded? Hell no, I just cant enjoy what I cant enjoy. Actually, I think that people who's music interests follow closely to that of mainstream are more narrow minded or simply don't find music to be of much interest in the first place.

Yeah, why not? If they're actually talented then why the hell wouldn't I? Sure, most of the shit on the radio today is garbage, but I'm not afraid to say I've listened to my fair share of Lil Wayne and Drake. Haters just hate mainstream usually because it's mainstream.

Does it make me different person, if I listten to what was played in radios 70 years ago, or what has been playing today?
I can listen to anything as long as it satisfies me, but it is rare that music from Disney satisfies me. And I dislike those rappers, who always have half naked women in their music videos, while waving with their money. I even preffer "gays" over "gangsta boys".

"gays"

Yes I do. But good mainstream such as The Killers, Stone Temple Pilots, ect...

Back in my younger and wilder days though (when I was 15), I used to be one of those, "The music industry is evil" sort of people.
All I listened to was punk, ska, metal, and reggae. I even had a pretty sweet mullet. Then I just sort of, started listening to mainstream again.

I still listen to some mainstream music. Like Jay and Ludacris. Although they are mainstream, they do have skill. And other artists that I don't normally listen to like Gucci Mane and Roscoe Dash, I listen to when I'm gettin' my club on.

Oh, and by the way, I don't even know what is mainstream or what isn't. And it's not anything important enough for me to define or care about it anyways. To people who just hate mainstream stuff or try to explain why they hate it is putting too much thought to a matter where music is something that everyone could have an interest in since there's so many selections. If you hate something when there's so many variety, just ignore the genre, instead of trying to justify or even find it worth mentioning why you dislike it. I mean sure, it's not like I'm stopping people from criticizing a genre, and criticisms are usually welcome in most cases, but I just don't find criticism in this area worth a lot of consideration.

I wouldn't say this to anything else, except for music, since it seems to me the most diverse of selections among the entertainment sector. The same could be said for novels, I guess, but I don't see enough people complaining about novels except if it's about Harry Potter or Twilight or something. But mostly people who like Twilight are young people, and mostly people who probably hate on it are young people, too.

There, that's like my half-serious post rather than listening to boulevard of broken dreams over and over again.

As long as it's not music that's obviously developed only for business by a bunch of professionals with no passion or will to transfer emotions to the listener to achieve art, who cares if it's considered mainstream or not?

Eurovision is the most wonderful thing EVER and I watch it every year since I was born (my grandmother used to watch it with me). I know all the songs of my country and can sing them with moderate competence.

But Eurovision is not really mainstream. It's super indie.

Countries that win frequently do not count.

Though the past years Northern songs were especially bad and cliché. In fact for over a decade nothing good has come from the Eurovision. Except for skating zombies.

If it's good mainstream, I guess. I can't stand most hip-hop, or rap. Or most pop. Seems the only pop I like is really old or from Japan.

I don't really care if people know the music, or how often it's on the radio. It just has to be good and I have to like it. I'm sure there's lots of underground hip-hop I'd hate, too. :p

I listen to mainly country but my taste in music is quite varied, not really anything mainstream, or at least not anymore, it might have been mainstream when released but most of it is old now, anime themes being the exception and they're hardly mainstream, especially in England.

By mainstream I think of music that is in the charts, nobody I know really listens to that stuff, yet they have the nerve to say me listening to country at my age is weird. =p

I listen to what I like, even if it falls into the category of mainstream.

I'm not a judgmental dickface 'when it comes to music' so I give everything a chance.. there is some hip hop and rap out there that I do enjoy... as much as I hate the current form of the genres as a whole.

You're judging everyone who you're calling a judgmental dickface, so you are, therefore, a judgmental dickface under your own qualifications.

I haven't listened to any mainstream music of mine in years. I do enjoy it, but now I have music that I find to be much more relevant. If I do decide to bring it back, then it's for nostalgia. Otherwise, I can pretty much live without it.

You got it wrong, your original post seemed like you set yourself above others because they listen to "plebeian" music, so I just wanted to throw your ego to the ground.

And as for having your own idea, this topic has been done a thousand times before.

Now so I don't get into trouble I will say that in various social situations like: driving with friends, going to parties, bbqs I usually listen to very mainstream music, and enjoy it.

You're missing out on a lot of gems that people dropped over the years (generally speaking). More power to you if you can live off of what you already have though.

I could see why you wouldn't listen to mainstream music, but I like how it sounds, so I do. It all comes down to how much you enjoy listening to it.

But I'd kinda have a problem if the only thing someone listened to was mainstream music. That sometimes gets on my nerves.
