Ranma ½ (2024) 2nd Season Episode 3 Discussion

Did I just forget the reveal in S1 or does everyone in the school just know he transforms now for some reason? Or are the comments about him not turning back meant as they think it's still a magic trick he does?

I looked it up and apparently in the old anime there's a big reveal much later on, and in the manga it's kind of just slowly found out instead, so I guess the remake is doing like you said? Seems like kind of a letdown after they make a point to try so hard not to be found out.

I remember the Mousse fight being a bit better in the OG but this was still a really good time. Mousse showed off the extent of his hidden weapons, like he can still use them while being shirtless, it makes you wonder where those weapons are coming from lol, and Ranma managed to make his perma-girl situation work with the disguise paired with the “girl transformation” thing, Tofu Sensei ended up saving the day with his temporary fix, but it’s just that, temporary lol, so girl Ranma is permanent for a bit longer, but at least Mousse has been dealt with for now.

And all of this Cologne stuff with the “chestnuts roasting on an open fire” technique actually came before the Mousse introduction in the OG, so it’s interesting seeing it in a different order here, it worked just as well so it’s not a bad change. Unfortunately for Ranma, learning the technique did not get him back to being a guy yet, but hey he at least got a cool move out of this, the summer festival bit was fun too.

@TheColonel76 So, the "OG" is actually the manga, and this was pretty much a panel-by-panel adaptation except for some little extra dialogue bits with Shampoo (and a single line change that still says the same thing, but without a certain dated joke heh).

The first adaptation changed a whole lot in this arc, particular towards the end (yup, next ep/manga does NOT take place at a snowy mountain lol).

Thanks to how they did it in there, in the old anime, the school students don't know about Ranma's secret til an arc faaaaar later down the line, at the very end, by episode 156 (unlike in here, where Ranma's secret is out of the bag from this point onward... for everyone not named Kuno, a recurring gag lol).

Very similar to the episode from the 1989 series. I remember it quite well. He battles Mousse as a girl, and has trouble because of his shorter stature. Dr Tofu uses a pressure point to allow him to handle hot water, but only once. He then defeats Mousse as a boy. Ranma is still stuck as a girl, though, but the Phoenix pill will cure his condition. Cologne has it. He needs to master the Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire technique to get it. At the festival, he actually masters it in a goldfish catching game (later becomes piranhas), and steals the case with the pill held by Cologne. But it's candy. Turns out she did that just in case he did master the technique. And we end on that.

Here's the thing about this episode: everyone seems to know that he can change into a girl now. When did they find out? Why aren't they surprised? I didn't miss an episode. But it seems his secret isn't a secret anymore. Regardless, fun episode!
