i saw this comment in an episode of Death Note, the moment's that got people hooked (don't worry, no spoilers past episode 2) was the moment the Police Chief from episode 1 came home and it was revealed that was Light's father, then the Lind L Tailor twist in episode 2, where the broadcast was only in that prefecture of Japan was the moment many people got into the series.

So it got me thinking, when did your favorite anime go from just "A show to watch" to something you really held in high regard.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Some (like FLCL or Mawaru Penguindrum) I couldn't really tell you, they just kinda always were but for other 10s, I could tell you:

Devilman Crybaby - the track event

Bakemonogatari - Hitagi Crab episode 2

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - This sounds the same as "it was always good" but the first episode specifically got me hooked

Right at the start of Mushoku Tensei the parents of reincarnated Rudeus actually spoke an otherworldly language, and since almost no other anime bothers with such details, it felt like an extraordinary show from the beginning.

Lycoris Recoil: Episode 4 conversation between Chisato and Takina on why Chisato is non-lethal then following up on her goals in life. It follows episode 1 doing something similar and at that point I knew, these two are great partners. They actually care to know why each of them think the way they do.
Bang Dream MyGo Episode 8 onward: I did not expect Soyo to pivot that hard after Harukage and best of all, she still maintains her darker personality in a more acceptable tone after the fact.
Food Court: Episode 1, the moment Wada started yapping on the food court to Yamamoto, all I think of, is wow, I picture myself having these conversations with my non-anime inclined friends all the time.

There was a creepy case in Mysterious Disappearances that made me consider putting it somewhere in my top 5.

That one was my favorite. I think they should have made all cases as creepy as that one.

With Madoka Magica, I remember the first time I watched it....I was a shy, lonely 12-13 or so year old in foster care sneaking a 3ds into my room (they heavily restricted any sort of device usage for no real reason...a 3ds was easyish to sneak...) to watch anime I could find on the youtube app. Sounds pathetic ik and the video quality was certainly crap, but I was just happy to be able to watch it.

Anime was one of my only real escapes from life and I also liked to write my own stories and draw so I definitely latched on to those characters a lot and the storytelling and plot twists were just especially incredible to me at the time. Of course even today the series holds up, but it'll always be a bit special to me. The soundtrack is also amazing.

The whole of Madoka Magica had me hooked

But the moment that made rebellion in my number one spot is of course the ending which blew my mind. To be more specific, her conversation with Kyubey, the moment she says it's love

Steins;Gate grabbed me from its very first scene when Okabe is making his iconic monlogue in the roof.

Dio and Jonathan's first meeting in Part 1 is what got me hooked on the entire Jojo series and made me immediately feel invested in everything with the whole shock value of him kicking Danny. It showed that Jojo was kind of willing to pus hthe bar a bit for me and do some wild shit which is one of my favorite elements of the series

Bleach - When Aizen stopped Ichigo's theme song in battle, I for sure thought Ichigo was gonna win and I was so hyped up but then that happened and I didn't expect Aizen to fully violated him like that with just a finger I can't imagine how Ichigo was feeling at that moment with all the training he had to go through and also got his bankai very quickly to then be defeated by a finger 🤣🤣 Bro really said 'i'm tired of hearing your theme song it's my turn now"

Nothing comes to mind. A lot of the things I consider favorites from anime, manga, video games, tv-series etc. I knew almost right away that I was gonna like it a lot just from the vibes I got when starting it. So just gut feeling I guess?

Most of my favorites either hook me immediately or gradually ramp up with no noticeable "moment."

Some early moments (not in Episode 1) that I remember fondly:

Golden Kamuy: The bear hunter with an old rifle that tries to hunt a wolf
Vinland Saga: The siege involving a bridge and a bunch of logs
Sound! Euphonium: Trumpet and euphonium duet on a mountaintop at night
Yuru Camp: When the pinecone "talked"

Great moment, but it was the scene that comes after that that got me really hooked - the last time Rafal and Nowak talk. "A wrong answer is not a meaningless one."

Love Live Superstar, Episode 3. At first, it seems like some silly sitcom making fun of Kanon's anxiety (though in a funny rather than mean-spirited way), then she starts crying for real near the end, in a way that really hit some buried nerve of mine. This was the point that I realized, yes, this is a story about depression, and yes, they're actually going to take this seriously rather than give a character one episode and call it a day like Love Live did many times in the past.

Time...it will not wait...no matter...how hard you hold on...it escapes you...

The whole episode was a masterclass in good direction, but this moment was, perhaps, the most iconic.

Made in Abyss - I'd say the very first moment when they first showed the abyss or the turning point on episode 10, but I think it's more how I gradually grow more attached to the world building and cast as the episode goes on that I eventually came to like it.

Non Non Biyori - Same as before, I became attached to the characters and their dynamic as the series goes on.

Yama no Susume - in season 2 when they climbed mount Fuji and

Future Boy Conan - I was hooked pretty quickly, but only at the end I've realized that it's one of my favorite anime.

Yu Yu Hakusho - during the Dark Tournament Arc

The Vision of Escaflowne - pretty quickly, I think after the first attack of Zaibach on Fanelia

Inuyasha - it was a show I was looking forward to watch for a long time and I got hooked right at the beginning, because I knew it's going to be amazing.

K-On! - Tbh, I only got hooked on it during a rewatch with a friend of mine, because I've realized there that it's more than just a funny SoL show with good music, but I can't really tell when exactly it was. Somewhere between the first and second season.

Frieren - It got me hooked relatively quickly, but Wirbel's quote towards the end of the show: "Death isn't the only goodbye in this life" made me realize how awesome it would be to not only to have great moments with your loved ones, but also being thankful for them. I'm going to rewatch it when the second season is about to be released.

Haruhi Suzumiya's class presentation set the bar extremely high to begin with, and the rest of the series completely delivered it. Between 2008 and 2009 i saw the chronological order as i bought all 4 DVDs as soon as they were released with italian dub, so that BIG moment came midway through and sort of let some of its magic... faded. Oh, well, all of my future rewatch binges switched to broadcast order, that same big moment now was in the final episode and everything wonderful about it was completely restored.

Second place... Gintama. Can't even remember why i put it on hold from late 2019 to the fall of 2021 after 12 or 13 episodes, they weren't bad at all but it just happened. Oh, well, Madao's actual introduction, Fundoshi's mask, the hunting for monsters at the seaside soon arrived, all put my enthusiasm back, and then... episode 25. Rewatched twice in a row, couldn't easily comment how epic it was since the cold opening of Yorozuya still frame with just the voice actors rambling on and on destroying the 4th wall and then presenting the most amazing food battle in existence and making it a Death Note spoof as the cherry on top, and at that point i knew it was a point of no return (build up even bigger with other soon-to-come episodes as 30, 34 or 35...

(save your time and don't try to comfort when i rant on casual discussion or forum games, feel free to ignore me, i won't take it personally)
