| They were running on a ridiculously insecure codebase. It was bound to happen sometime eventually. This is what happens when you're the size of, well, 4chan, and slack on your OPSEC. Basically, the maintainers were about as intelligent as the average 4chan user. |

| I doubt it'll be dead forever. They'll have it back up in a few days and it'll be business as usual after a week or so. Remember, NOTHING EVER HAPPENS! I do gotta give props to the sharty though, keeping up the tradition of hacking and raiding websites. In some weird ironic twist of fate they're kinda keeping the spirit of the old internet alive. Also, you gotta admit, it's very funny that the group that successfully hacked 4chan wasn't a far-left activist group or FBI agents, no, it was just other chan users who are mad that their favorite board got locked years ago. /qa/ WON shartyGODs WON 'teens WON jannies LOST troons LOST /lgbt/ LOST |

| I hope its not gone! /pol was one of the best places for underground REAL news, with great discussion and hypothesis, as it's not censored. Heard about Covid pretty much week one as it was happening from China back in October/November that year. We saw the videos posted by dissidents: the police there were beating everyone down not complying (even old people, horrific) and locking shit up. They even took every pet in some apartment complexes that they could find, sealing them into giant bags... that was pretty horrible since you could still see them moving in these massive bags probably all clawing at each other :( Within days the entire happening was broken down and people predicted what would happen months before anyone else, although there were several theories so it wasn't clear what to believe or how serious to take it until later. Most of the Covid "problem" was of course the lockdowns coming later, which some ppl actually anticipated as early as November that year. Even the vaccine and everything that happened was predicted early. Pretty smart ppl there lmao, but maybe all you need is to understand people and pattern recognition. From the start the Chinese anons were telling us near the start was a lab and they said it was a leak, but that seemed too obvious and muddled with all the different theories it was hard to tell if that part was true or not. Some theorized that the leak was on purpose to hurt economies worldwide in China's favor, but I don't feel that's been proven or disproven. A lot of what you see in news is not accurate and LATE (in the case of Covid, months behind) so much is not reported because the media/government is all obviously complicit to make money (clearly controlled by something bigger if you know you know) and this is routinely proven by videos from everyday people not looking for clout in a forum where they can be uncensored. Now X might be the place for that kinda news but.. ugh lmao. It's such a cringe site now more free but kinda lamer under right winger try-hards. Telegram can be good too for info, but feels illegal lol. And the /pol humor was so dark and edgy that was great, hard to find that anywhere else. So many good memes started on 4chan before they hit everyone else years later. |

| yeah, it was hilarious. Also you forgot the best stuff: Many moderators were government users, and this was know because many of their emails used government address with real name (this helped to doxx them). And the site didnt get a security update in a long time. Add this to the fact they also leaked the source code... its going to be a while if it ever goes back online. Well, it was deserved, idk what we will do without or made up green texts, now that the truth is out, I dont think many users will come back. also, ewww Bsky... |

| Well, given vast swathes of Twitter is indistinguishable from 4chan now in the amount of hard-r's dropped per capita, they have their cutting-edge replacement site ready. But otherwise I wouldn't be that sure it's gone for good. There was a concerted effort to shut down Kiwifarms, a smaller website, with mainstream journos joining in the fight. Most they could do is have it be down for a few days via pressuring Cloudflare until they found a Russian alternative, 3 years later, the site is up to this day. |

| @deg It's because Hiro (the guy who bought 4chan in 2015) is insanely incompetent and the only changes he made were attempts to make the site profitable. | @Lost_Viking It'll be back, sure, but this could leave a lasting mark, and you gotta admit, it is kinda pathetic just how relatively easily they got taken down, and by whom. We're not talking about some random website here, we're talking about 4chan, THE 4chan. So even if and when it does come back, I think we can all at least agree that the site is completely dead in some spiritual sense. I know oldfags have been saying that for years but I feel this event puts the final nail in the coffin. |

| Truthfully, that website has been in a dire state for nearly a decade. After Hiroyuki bought it back in 2015, the website was updated once and never again. I think he only bought it to assuage his wounded ego after the burger father and child stole 2ch from him, anyway. Auron said: You beat me to it!
