I don't really understand the role of Shizue with the overall plot. The doctor is involved with a lot of the characters and it seems that her injections have an odd effect. Also,I wonder what's Manaka's story. She looks kind of grown-up for a 5 years old.

I liked this episode a lot. The story telling method of this series seems to be growing on me. :)

However, I can't really understand the significance of this episode in the series.

The way the show presents itself was confusing at first, but now i'm used to it. I don't see the significance either but it will probably make sense later on.

This episode was the weakest of the series so far I thought. It wasn't bad, just okay. I'm sure we'll get more of an idea of Shizue's significance, or at least the significance pf this episode in the coming episodes.

I enjoyed this tale and the happy yet sad ending it gave. For some reason I feel like this is one of my favorite episodes. It seems though the only thing really overall plot realted was more time with the dr and pregnant lady. Also that person who gets killed by boogiepop seems to be the dr.

That doctor again, she's real bad news. Must have something to do with the drug that the fake cop mentioned.

This episode is a heavy contrast to the previous one...that I really don't know what to say. Probably because it is directed in a new approach unlike previous ones (which flashes across two juxtaposing scenarios again and again, take for instance the previous episode's policeman scene versus Suema+Touka scene; and episode 2's Jonouchi feasting on spiders scenes versus Nagi's attempt to source out Manticore scenes), which flashes back and flashes forward multiple times. As such, I guess the temporal judgement of viewers gets clouded...but even fixing them in order still kind of makes this episode more of a standalone episode talking about a mother-daughter relationship that was compromised as a result of the Manticore's killing spree. Oh and another conjecture (less than episode 5, but well): the link with this and the previous episode is that the father is most likely Morita-san, that 360-degree head twisting policeman. Correct me if I am wrong.

Oh my god you got great perception!!
I'll have to rewatch to make sure if the father is the possessed policeman or not? Cuz the timeline and names kinda mixed up.

nope, not as Rahxephon.
Read the novel first, then it will be very easy to understand, at least in recognizing the characters and understanding the setting

Weird to get an épisode out of the background story after one focused on telling us about the slim thread tying everything. But it's reassuring (I feared that it would center on the background problem) and it was about a nice theme (even though it was handled very conveniently)

5/5

Obviously, it couldn't be without effect, now that we know what she is doing and what the injections are.

The doctor is evil, looks like she was killed.

This episode doesn't seem to have much to do with anything else and so becomes a short film about a widow whose daughter dies (she could have died in an accident rather than being murderered and that would even ironically tie into the mother's insurance job). Episode 4 was somewhat similar but this was much better done than that.

That was another part of this masterpiece, loved the violence and horror. The sound design is fucking amazing as usual. I can't help but notice how well done these characters are. They seem very simple, yet real. Great.

Some questions I had were answered in this episode. Namely the girl with the luminescent butterflies. Sad ending but has a more positive resolve than the other episodes.

I honestly don’t know how you could watch this series without having read the light novels. Like I don’t want to sound elitist or anything, but this series heavily relies on you already knowing the events of the books (which probably should have been made more clear) because otherwise you’re trying to retroactively piece together the plot of multiple novels that was already established and the show doesn’t feel the need to explain step by step.

This episode in particular focused on the surrounding aftermath of Vol 6 and I found it gave the events more weight that the light novel didn’t have time flesh out. The ending in particular got me pretty emotional so I’d say it was a solid episode overall.

Another side story again. This time with a girl getting mad that her mom found someone else after her dad died. It was a bit slow for me.

This was definitely the trippiest episode so far. Holy shit. It's getting pretty hard to keep characters straight what with there being so many. Now we're jumping through time too. Oof.

By the end, I think I figured out what happened though. Shizue's dad died, and Shizue's mom refused to show her grief in front of her. Unfortunately that made Shizue feel like she couldn't grieve his loss either. Eventually Shizue's mom found a supportive guy at work who comforted her, breaking down all those walls. Shizue caught them in bed together and freaked out. Soon after her boyfriend got way too pushy and tried to force his desires on the poor baby. And all the stress understandably built up into PTSD and an aversion to sex that presented as chronic stomach pain. The ulcers would flare up when she ate, so she stopped eating, making things worse. Poor baby needed a hug. Her mom too.

That psychologist is always such a psychopath. Now I'm wondering if the "abortion" she had was the other woman's pregnancy with that drug. But I also might be mixing her up with a school nurse because that's why Jounichi was in the nurse's office for the first girl instead.

The male doctor was weird too. "You'd look prettier with longer hair." Like none of your business, asshole. What's with this hospital staff? I feel like they should be getting complaints (or fired/sued in the psychologist's case), but I guess the organization protects them.

I'm also wondering if the butterfly girl is the "5-year old" Manaka, but then the mom might also be seeing her visions from 2 years earlier (7 years ago), meaning the butterfly girl would be older.

Nagi is acting weird too. She certainly doesn't seem like a highschool/middle school girl. She's friends with a detective, and always ditches class to chase the crazy people in her biker gear. So many questions.

I'm really waiting for the other guy in the opening to come in too. Good stuff so far. I hope the plot doesn't completely unravel once they start answering questions.
