Honestly just beautiful. A perfect climax, her life was presented as hard and unfair from the first shot of the backlash. Then you see what was keeping her alive, but don't see the connection with the moment. At this point everything opens to you, and you recognise that as in life, so in death, she can do nothing but hide from reality. At last, an implication of the soul transmission method that is not immediately understendable, but nonetheless absolutely logic. Aira see what we saw from the figuratives eyes of Momo.
And at last, al she could do is try to fix a person, shattered like glass, with only a few words in a few seconds. We don't know if that is enough, but that was all she could receive.

Wow, that was truly a heartbreaking backstory. And the quality overall of this episode was off the charts.

In the manga, I thought it was an amazing chapter, but this adaptation not only does it justice, it does it better. The attention to detail here is truly touching. Aira and she weren’t biologically related, but they were connected spiritually. Both lost someone dear, and their hearts reached out to one another. After so much time and pain, she finally found some peace.

I was expecting a good adaptation of the story, but the level of Science SARU is delivering deserves a standing ovation.

probably episode of the season so far. i knew what was coming and it was still heavy, especially for an absurd show. directing and visuals were so good and tatsu REALLY cooked for the first time with this, i remember locking i here even though i already liked it from the start.

Until the 6th ep I thought this would be just another good action anime like jjk or kimetsu no yaiba. But after seing the 7th ep… this thing has the potential to be great. Will have to wait and see how they finish it, this could be a 10/10 legend.

Some missing informations, like who are those guys and where's her real daughter now. Also, I feel like nitpicking but anyone could counter an emergency situation so I've to mention that that's a wrong way to CPR.

Heres comes the crybait.

The worst influence Kimetsu had on the manga industry was making authors believe cramping some hyper melodramatic backstory to a side villain from absolutely nowhere was good writing. Nevermind the worst thing is that they are absolutely right and people will eat that up completely without even considering it.
For sure I'm really buying this sudden surge of extreme violence with the murder of a poor woman and the kidnapping of her kid for a bit of money from 2 completely unnamed dudes with not even their faces shown. Did she fucked over the yakuzas? Did she had debt so insane someone threaten to take her child if she didn't paid? That's what I choose to believe because for all we know this is the most brutal and uncalled for payoff with a total absence of setup.
Obviously the emotion conveyed here is "look how unlucky she is, she didn't deserve any of this", but I don't think fictionnal characters as people, they are merely writing devices, and in this case putting such an amount of brutality just for the sake of making the audience cry without any justification is quite frankly, pretty cliche and cheap.
However what I will not deny is that beautiful directing and that magnificent piano track, didn't expect less from Kensuke Ushio, composer of Ping Pong's ost, one of the greatest soundtrack of all time, but still top notch.

My biggest concern for sure is this will be praised so highly that even people saying it's the best episode ever created wouldn't even be hyperbolic. Unfortunately for me, I have grown up of only having emotional response towards art and media and I can only conclude this was wildly incoherent tone shift for an action/romance shonen to switch from fighting wacky ghosts/aliens and finding the main dude's balls to the painful life of a single mom trying to raise her child while crippling in debt.
You could just write one shots if you want to do this kind of tragic silent short movies with overlaying music, insert them in a shonen which will switch to crude comedy next episode feels more of a petty attempt to catch an unsuspecting audience than anything else. But what do I now anyway, this episode will make the show go from 8.60 to 9.05 I guess lmao.
@James-LastOmnic I pretty much agree with you, I can't understand what was so good in this episode that made people praise it to high heavens, I thought people made fun of things like Kimetsu no Yaiba when they give a sad backstory to the villain of the week. I don't mind when villain get a backstory and I actually welcome it, but I hope it isn't some kind of one-off villain that we will probably never see again, like, I don't think we even know which was Acro Silky's name before turning into that. Actually, I'm not surprised about this kind of writing, and I wouldn't totally blame Kimetsu no Yaiba for it, that series didn't invent sudden sad backstories, but the problem is that the author was Tatsuki Fujimoto's assistant, and if you have watched or read Fujimoto's work you'll see he likes to add things to just shock the viewers, you can see something like the recently released Look Back for example, but Fujimoto tends to be even more vapid than just saying "please cry". I know I don't control people's emotions, so it's fine if they cried and that made the episode their best episode of 2024, but this episode wasn't particularly special even between battle shonen's emotional episodes.

This is going to be that episode this season that tugs on your heartstrings. You get a look as to what made Acrobatic Silky. What connection Aira has to her. Along with Aira's mother. Even Momo couldn't take it and she's a hard nut to crack.

I really wasn’t expecting that. I hope that doesn’t happen again. Demons are demons: I don’t want to know how they became one.
@nhkam Nothing starts off bad, try a bit more compassion. There is even a tradition in some Christian teachings where Jesus went into the underworld & freed souls trapped there.

About the ED complaints. I remember hearing similar back in Inuyasha: Final Act when Kagura died & Seshomaru showed up. They have the wonderful OST playing in the background & then... some pop ed. Seriously, don't know why some shows feel the need. <sigh>

Yea idk why some people here consider this crybait. A flashback that’s actually done well….little to no dialogue, just showing as much as possible with the visuals and the directing. Regardless of whether or not one “felt anything” during this episode, it doesn’t take more than two brain cells to at least acknowledge there’s genuine pathos there, even if it’s merely within a single short timeframe. There’s plenty of other examples that would better qualify as so-called “crybait”, anyways. They did it extremely well for what it’s worth, considering the identity of Dandadan in general. Amidst the constant chaos and nonstop mayhem, there’s occasional moments of respite from that “normality” like this.

TLDR; it’s great, haters coping.

What I got from the backstory (no source just what was implied on screen), the ghost was a former dancer who probably had to quit after having a daughter, giving up on her own dreams to raise her daughter. To earn money she turned to prostitution, aa we don't see her soliciting her clients she obviously has a pimp (more likely a criminal organization like the yakuza that runs things like prostotution) who takes the majority of the money (thus her meager luving conditions). We see her pass the shop window with the dress and as we see her teaching her daughter to dance, can assume she wanted her daughter to have what she didn't and finally cracked and spent some of the money she owed to buy her daufhter the dress. Well that didn't sit well with her pimp (obviously as they set up her jobs they know how much she will own them) and when she came up short he sent his goons to collect, taking the only thing of value she had, her daughter. Now you can imagine what men who pimp women for money would do with a young female child so I'll leave that up to you to figure out. (If they were going to kill her to punish her mom they would have just done it there in front of her). Her grief beyond what she can take she dies and tragically doesn't even remember her daughter. It wasn't until Aira (somehow able to see her, maybe because of losing her own mother) mistakes her for her mother that she remembers she lost someone and becomes obsessed with Aira waiting for her to notice her again to fill that emotional void.

Action, Comedy, Shounen, Supernatural. When watch a series I kind of expect to see those posted genres. I didn’t expect a heart-wrenching yokai backstory, just as I would never expect an alien or turbo-granny backstory. It’s expectation versus the curveball plot tangent, which has zero to do with compassion.
