This is why people shouldn't touch things casually unless they know exactly what they're dealing with.

Curiously enough, it seems their world also exists taboos. The morals of their world can be much more complicated than it sounds. Either way, I hope Badeni learned something from this experience.

Looks like Badeni will actually be taking the place of Rafal and not Oczy.

I mean, his backstory should just show you that he was as, if not more committed than Rafal was. The dude legit didn't even care what would happen, he opened that book and lost his eye all for the sake of this research.

Could it be that from here onwards publications about the heliocentric model for society began?

It's incredible that in every episode we always have the church trying to do something stupid.
This episode we had this guy from the abbey who went blind in one eye.

In this episode we also finally witness a physical experiment on the movement of the earth. Oczy he's so layman and has no charm whatsoever as a character, I hope he develops better after this episode. At least oczy was finally able to look up to the sky and see that not everything is perfect, as the church assumes it is.

Peak fucking fiction. Another masterful episode that made me tear up for some reason. Every time this show brings out humanity's lust for curiosity and how hungry we are for knowing much more than we know right now, it makes me feel things. It's such a nice feeling. Badeni's story was amazing as well and Oczy moving past his fear of looking at the sky and stars and how the explanation went about planetary motion was brilliant.

It was so well directed with Kensuke Ushio's gorgeous soundtrack in the background. Is Heaven and Earth the same? The world we live in is not so ugly after all. It's not going to change lives, it's going to change the universe. What an amazing line it was. Such a brilliant show so far. I can't get enough of it.

Especially after getting his backstory, Badeni being the one who finally "burned" away the eyes staring down at Oczy is almost too perfect. Not to mention his practical explanation of retrograde motions.

How can anyone have any complain about this. Each week every episode is excellent.

Badeni backstory was brutal. The church may have not done things like this irl but plenty of religious institution did that to people who were just curious. A wish to be special, great and remembered is not a single but a right.
Even knowing consequences, Badeni still decide to have a peek at forbidden book just for that "lust of knowledge".

Oczy also overcome his fear and proved his worth. In the end because of heliocentric theories they discovered he also finally able to see the sky as beautifully again.

But the best part how the explained retrograde theory in such a simple yet tactful way. What an anime!

Badeni's journey of research may be just beginning...

With this episode, now I wonder who is actually taking the place of Rafal as the main researcher, Oczy or Badeni. Just from this episode, I'm already really liking Badeni's character, and his commitment to research and his pre-existing knowledge is to be admired. He seemed to already have a good grasp on the retrograde motion of Mars, and his explanation to Oczy was quite enlightening. Badeni feels like he already has that similar charm that Rafal had, and that has me quite excited for whatever's coming.

@IzanaSolos i cannot stop wondering how Rafal and Badeni would be together working towards they real beauty of the sky, such a shame that this is impossible T-T

what happened to Badeni, losing his eye i mean, is much like what happened to Odin, god of wisdom and knowledge, he lost his eye in exchange to gain knowledge. Did the author intend this i wonder?

Best episode of the chapter and second best of the series so far.
You can see it in Oczy's eyes the moment he had his revelation, not much unlike Rafal in episode 2.
It's that moment you find the perspective that makes the world seem beautiful; even more than you could have ever imagined.
The moment when everything clicks into place and you realise how elegant that perspective really is.
This is what I love about this anime, the way it portrays the revelation (imo the best part of science).
It's the feeling of watching the first domino, which seemed insignificant until now, falling and knocking over the next one, which knocks over the next one, and the next one, and another one, and a bigger one... and eventually you realise that what you previously thought incomprehensible is now clear as day!
It's that moment you understand that the key to making sense of it was as simple as finding and pushing a tiny domino.

  • "I merely vomited years of common sense and preconceptions." - Badeni
  • "Is it something that will change your life?"
"No, that's not it. This will change the universe." - Badeni
  • "Something about it seems more beautiful than ever." - Oczy

This is a pure form of joy only curiosity can provide; and the reason humans seek the truth about the world.

Another amazing episode.

I was disappointment when Oczy looked at the sky first and it was still eyes and then somehow he managed to record for the monk. But then near the end he looks again and there it is, the beautiful starry night sky <3

What a simple, yet powerful story this anime tells. Really amazing. They should show this in schools.

And definitely opening of the season. I cannot skip it, lol.

Another amazing episode man this is easily AOTS. Like it ain’t even really close

Badeni story was hard to see play out. As a Catholic, it’s so frustrating to see how the church back in this time were so caught up in preventing knowledge and things that defied established norms yet they were ok selling indulgences and doing all sorts of back room deals. Badeni actually correctly predicted the Protestant reformation that would happen as a result of the Church’s failings and corruption.

If you think about it, Badeni went blind from staring at the sun too long. That’s literally what the page he read causing him to be pinned down by the other monks was about. Very poetic reminder of his thirst for knowledge

It’s really remarkable how people were able to solve things like retrograde back in those days with the instruments they had. Truly one of the greatest periods for scientific discoveries despite the oppression they faced. No cell phone and video games does wonders for the human brain lol.

Like Badeni said, God gave this knowledge to humanity and it should be studied. We have brains for a reason. I got a bad feeling about he and Oczy but it’s all for a good cause.

Not gonna lie, Oczy was getting on my nerves at the beginning of the episode, like, JUST SAY IT. I don't even know how Badeni got to understand it was a big deal and not some kind of prank.
Although Oczy's character gives the anime a really interesting nuance, he does get on my nerves sometimes, because it's seems he doesn't have his own morals, I could withstand a indecisive person (I mean, I'm that type of person too, not that I want to project that into anime characters), but he just doesn't have morals whatsoever, like, I don't know how to explain it.
Anyways, it seems he got some character development this episode, although I also thought the same last episode, and it wasn't really the case.
But the scene when he looks at the sky, after knowing about the new model for Earth, was really well done, and you could see some hope in his eyes.

Let's now talk about Badeni... Such an excentric character, and I love it. The way he was just whipping himself, to be able to say the truths that priest needed to hear, yes, iconic. And let's not forget how he was given the choice of not being punished by reading the herectic book, but he chose to read it, because he knew the world was something more than what the church was telling, and that the church itself needed to start adapting to new times, or it would become outdated and people would lose their faith (which is actually what's happening nowadays). And they just burned his eyes?!?!? They are brutal. Badeni seems to be a bit narciscistic, but it's for sure going to be an interesting character.

The final revelation of the idea of the heliocentrism theory and how it explains most of the problems that the other theories have, was so well executed, eben though for us it's pretty obvious, the anime does a great job at making you understand and feel what people from that time felt and knew. It gave me chills the last few scenes!

Can't wait to see the next episode, because it seems things are actually getting quite fast paced, I mean, we're only at episode 6 of 25, but the setup for them to prove the theory is done, and I'm not sure they're spending all the rest of the 19 episodes proving it, at least with this cast of characters.

Now that I think about it, there's this man that appears in the opening (it seems like some kind of knight honestly) that isn't featured in the ending, so he might be a future main character? Or an antagonist maybe.

And I'm really curious to see how the girl enters this story (the one I think is Nowak's daughter).

Wasn't it that he sought help from Badeni because he couldn't read, that's why he didn't know what it was about?
He really is indecisive, getting caught up in nonsense and shilly-shallying until being told "bro stop being an idiot just do it" :D I like Badeni's no-nonsense attitude. Their dynamic really complements each other!

I've noticed the Knight too recently!
There also seems to be 2 shots of Nowak, one as his younger self and the other as his older self - funnily enough, the pose he strikes in the second one sort of reminds me of this one painting with Jesus in it? idk

Nowak's daughter coming in next ep probably (I hope!) \o/

Yea nah he specifically mentioned indulgences which was a practice of literally letting people buy their way to heaven which prompted Martin Luther to write his thesis. The split did weaken the church substantially and of course led to war in Europe that was a big part of the 16 and 17th centuries.

@Marinate1016 yes it was one of Luthar main agenda against Church. I didn't knew the exact term. And ik what follows Protestant reformation, millions died and executed in war of religion.
But Poland always stayed Catholic. So this guys still survived.

The anime keeps getting more and more intriguing; it really captures the essence of the peak of astrology!

Bademi has endured a lot for his curiosity and thirst for knowledge, but he never gave up and has now reached the ultimate truth of the universe. I really enjoy the contrast between Oczy and Bademi; despite their differences, they could make an amazing duo, especially now that Oczy has come to see beauty in both the heavens and the earth.

I just hope they manage to last longer alive than the others!

Badeni made a kind of dumb choice looking at that book when he could have easily waited for another opportunity or even pretended to set it down and glance covering it out of view so it seemed like the book stayed closed. I do admire the persistence to learn despite consequences though.

Huh retrograde motion explained here actually makes it pretty easy to understand

Oczy finally able to look at the night sky again and appreciate it made me tear up a little.

I do wonder how long before someone brings up the same point Rafal originally brought up on how if the world spins why do you land in the same spot when you jump straight up. It actually is easy to test that if it comes up again.

Badeni is a great new character! I found him very intriguing last week, and I was captivated by him in this episode! His dedication to the scientific truth is admirable. I also appreciated the relationship he developed with Oczy, the two of them form quite the duo. I especially liked how their world views collided at the end with regard to the world's beauty and whether it's as good as Heaven or a lowly place or whatever.

That's exactly how I feel about the edgy pompous monologues these clowns barf up at any given chance.

I'm starting to think this show is supposed to be a parody or a satire. Badeni's dialogues and demeanor of a chunny protagonist is down right laughable (don't even get me started on his eyepatch and scars).

The night scenes are still a chore to watch while having to crank up the monitor brightness. Hope someone actually gets fired for such a stupid choice.

Just like in the previous episode with the collapsing bridge, this hackjob of a writer doesn't know how to properly create conflict without feeling contrived. Why the heck did Badeni's superior left such an important heretic book outside the locked bookcase at hands reach from anyone outside his window? It makes absolutely no sense that such an uptight conservative superior would pull out a book after punishing his disciple for his lust of heretic knowledge.

These current clown characters make me miss Rafal big time.

what happened to Badeni, losing his eye i mean, is much like what happened to Odin, god of wisdom and knowledge, he lost his eye in exchange to gain knowledge. Did the author intend this i wonder?

Interesting perspective! This could definitely be a tie to Odin.
@marcymarie yeah i know right?? i guess the author did intend this since his use of ideas is pretty unique
