Not sure about others, but in my case, the life often happens, and I just can't always watch, and follow everything that is popular. I mean, I am sure that most of that, if not everything is great, or even amazing, and I would enjoy it if I gave it chance, but there is only so much time I have, and in some cases I am simply not in mood to watch particular anime. My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Frieren, Tokyo Ghoul are some of those. I also haven't seen some of those most popular isekai, despite actually enjoying the genre. |

if im interested in it then ill get to it eventually, my priority isnt based off of how popular it is. unless i just want to get it out the way. anyway to answer your question, haikyuu is one. as for why, im just not that interested. i wouldnt mind if it was just one or two seasons, but thats not the case - i dont like dropping or putting anime on hold. i might watch it one day tho who knows |

Naruto & Dragonball. Both these I think I may have liked when I was younger, I might eventually read the Manga of them though, as that might be more doable than watching. One Piece. The length terrifies me and I just don't think it would be something I'd enjoy. |

Majority of popular shounen anime. Too long if u ask me. This includes Attack on Titan, Bleach, One Piece, a few more. |

There's a shitload of really popular anime I haven't seen. I'm missing some old classics (mostly Gundam and Saint Seiya), but I'm missing like 95% of the modern (2000+) popular shows. Mostly because I don't touch battle shonens, but also because I've tried a bunch of MAL top 100 shows when I joined, and was massively underwhelmed. And the tendency of new watchers to 10/10 whatever's hyped, and bot it up to the top spot isn't encouraging me to change my ways. @Davidjoe193 Go watch Grave of the Fireflies ASAP! |

I'm like 90% sure I won't like Demon Slayer, so I don't think I'll ever watch it. From the amount of it I've been exposed to, it seems to be mostly eye candy and not much else. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it's just not what I'm looking for in a show. I'll probably never watch MHA for the same reason (just being confident that I won't like it). One Piece is another show I'll never touch just because of how many episodes it has. I don't care how worth it the fans keep saying it is lol. I don't really understand people who watch things they know they'll dislike, it just seems like a waste of time lol. Talking about how bad you think it is online can't be worth it. |

Naruto, I don't think I will ever watch this. Same with Fairy Tale, Black Clover and Soul Eater. Unlikely I will watch these. Bleach, may watch it but not sure. Haikyuu, I need to watch older sports anime before picking this up. Clannad. I have to watch it but my watch list is too big. Grave of the Fireflies. Every other week this pops into my head. I've been putting this off for 7+ years now because I know I will cry watching this. |

I've known about SAO since it began, but I really didn't want to watch it for some reason. I don't know, maybe because of the anime's overall vibe? Others are : 1. The Fate series 2. Majority of Isekais ( with the exception of Zero no Tsukaima, Tensei Shitara , TWWTUHM, The cooking in another world with my absurd skill anime) 3. The monogatari series |

There are a lot of big anime I'm simply not interested in watching at all. Neon Genesis Evangelion- Most of what I hear is that the characters are awful and annoying, characters are the most important thing in a piece of media to me. Why would I watch it? In any case I like my mecha with a larger dose of charming goofiness. I like serious things that acknowledge the ridiculousness of life and being too serious. Legend of The Galactic Heroes- Like, I'm sure it's great but how many super long anime am I gonna be able to watch in my lifetime? It is just very low on the totem pole for me in terms of appeal. Would rather watch Maison Ikkoku. Bunny Girl Senpai- Seems like a very male-aimed romance and just kinda looks a bit cringe. It is a possibility still though. My Hero Academia- I borderline hate superhero stuff Konosuba- Girl in college showed me a clip and I was disgusted. Old ecchi is funny because it's usually bad, lacks self awareness, and mainly only weirdos/tweens watch it. The fact it is popular and a girl my age was watching that, showing it to me- a fellow girl, just made me feel extremely awkward. Doesn't look funny in a non-gross way, not gonna try it. I'm not totally disinterested in Attack on Titan but honestly for series like that, Naruto, Black Clover etc. it would be faster and probably more aesthetically appealing to me to just read the manga. |

Plenty of really long "battle shounen" I have no intention of watching (Dragon Ball, HxH, One Piece, Jojo, Bleach, etc.) Also not interested in Death Note, Monster, Ping Pong or Vinland, A Silent Voice, either. At best I might watch a few episodes out of morbid? curiosity. But regarding the OP there's stuff that's been in my PTW for a million years that I just haven't gotten around to for whatever reason, like: Akira Code Geass FMAB Redline GTO Fate series SnK various Ghibli's -- I've only seen Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle. Azumanga Daiou Captain Herlock -- In the meantime there's been a reboot :) Fushigi Yuugi Hajime no Ippo Kill la Kill -- I got a couple episodes in but then put it back into PTW. Kingdom Princess Jellyfish Sailor Moon -- Also watched a couple episodes before returning it to PTW. Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica -- For context I want to get in some earlier magical girl shows in first. Maison Ikkoku Naruto -- Actually I just want to watch 1st 40 episodes 'cause of a yuri ship between 2 of the girls ;) Gintama -- Another one I don't intend to watch end-to-end but I'll cue up an episode when I need my Rie Kugimiya fix :) I'm sure there's a few more but I don't know if they really qualify as "famous" or not but ^^ are good enough to list for now I'd say. It took a long time before I got to some other famous ones like NGE, Tatami Galaxy, Mushishi & Steins Gate. Whatever... |

A lot, actually. I haven't seen a single episode of Bleach, Gintama, One Punch Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, SpyxFamily, Code Geass, Hajime no Ippo, Hunter x Hunter, Steins;Gate, and of the Fate series, Haikyuu, Fairy Tail, My Hero Academia, or Naruto. I have seen an episode or two of One Piece on TV in Japan, but that's it. Most of what I've watched is from the 80s and 90s. |

@LenRea It's extremely rare to see this kind of self-awareness amongst those with tastes that reject most things mainstream. I really must applaud you! To a point I get how elitism develops and I understand and even have some specialized niche tastes myself, though I personally still welcome popular stuff as well and try not to discriminate based on popularity alone, unlike many people. --- To answer the thread question: Lots of the most praised anime that are popular, such as HXH, FMAB, Steins;Gate, and Berserk. I will be watching them within the next year or two though, they're on my personal list (I don't have them in my PTW on MAL but I haven't gotten around to adding all the anime I've watched either so that would be why). When I began watching anime I wanted to start with the shows that were popular but perhaps not the greatest in terms of actual writing. I wanted a chance to enjoy the lesser shows first so I could truly appreciate the real bangers when the time came, to "work my way up" so to speak. Of course, anyone who's looked at my profile will know that I still have some of these "most popular" shows in my favorites, despite now having watched over 40 anime series. I get the issues that people have with the Big Three and some other extremely popular anime such as Death Note and AOT, but personally they're still some of my favorite shows (although Bleach is a bit further down). Ramblings on how I'm already starting to notice how I feel about shows that I may have rated higher if I'd watched them earlier: My first "real" anime was SAO, and I rate it much higher than most people who take anime seriously but even when I was watching it I was aware of at least some of its flaws. I'm glad I was still able to enjoy it though, since I'd probably rate it a bit lower if I were to come into it fresh right now and hadn't watched it before. I of course got into the most popular series that were still genuinely praised afterwards, just not the "best of the best", and those have generally still stuck with me as being some of the favorite anime I've watched to this day. I can't help but wonder though, say, if I watched JJK earlier, how much higher I'd put it. That was one of the ones I put off, if only because it came out after I began watching anime and I'm the kind of person who constructs a list and goes through it, mostly ignoring any new series that come out until I'm done, although that's changed with my new list somewhat. Point being, I'd watched quite a few shonen once I got around to watching that anime and I absolutely resonate with the notion that, a lot of times it just feels like the same show in a different skin. It doesn't mean I'll hate it but it does dampen my enjoyment a bit, seeing the same show for the 10th time. Though JJK isn't a carbon copy/generic blend of the shows that came before it by any means and it still has enough to make it stand out. I suppose better examples would be Fairy Tail or Black Clover, while I felt some level of enjoyment watching those anime they absolutely felt like a generic watered-down blend of better shonen that came before it, packed with worse writing. Then there's Yu Yu Hakusho, another anime I'd only watched semi-recently after watching a bunch of other shonen, and while I got the same feeling of "ah, it's this show again" while watching it, it's still ended up quite high on my list. Not "favorite-level", but it's one of those things where I can't help but feel like it probably would have if I watched in my early days. Sorry for going a bit off topic there, but it got me thinking about some interesting stuff, namely how despite my efforts to maximise my enjoyment of the "lesser" shows before "graduating" to the best ones, I've stuck around long enough in this category that my tastes have developed such that I feel like I am indeed ready for something better now, though I've still got something like 15 anime to watch in my future list before getting to the most highly-praised stuff 😅 |

I don't pick a series for its popularity. It's simply depending on my mood. I have some popular series that I am currently reading/watching and some which I have already finished. There are some which are in my PTR/PTW lists. |
