Do you feel like you've outgrown a certain kind of genre?

Just so you know, these are my thoughts. You have your own. Just thought I'd start a discussion about possible reasons for these thoughts for example.

I used to watch shounen, drama, action etc anime about a decade ago. Even more perhaps these past few years. Been checking a few here and there. But nowadays, it feels too dumb and predictable. Sure, my favorites can be predictable as well but you know what I mean.
Drama makes everything so cringe. Action is too predictable and shounen is just the typical fight, lose, win, grow etc crap.
12 episode series for example, is too predictable. If they'd continue, without season 2 etc, 24 or more episodes, it might be a different thought there. FYI I know the major reason for 12 eps long seasons instead of adapting an entire series.
As I've "outgrown" those kind of genres. Action, shounen, drama etc doesn't click with me anymore. Why is that happening?

Comedy has only kept me going in the anime series. Which makes me grateful for many different types, be it isekai, fantasy, comedy etc.

Has anyone else, obviously, serious kind of anime watcher, felt like he/she'd outgrown certain types of genre?

Fyi, I don't care about many genres. I'll post my favorites, with some kind of reason is in this spoiler so not to make this post too long.

Definitely yes, for example battle shonen and romance (unless it's yuri).

Most kodomo anime like Pokemon, but there still are a few entertaining ones.

@tchitchouan My kind of man, any recommendations which I've yet to see? Preferably, uncensored, since todays god damn cowards of studios need to censor everything.

I outgrew most shoujo when I started viewing all the stories in a similar light. I am a guy so it is not that surprising. Kind of funny how shoujo confirmed my blackpilled takes. Lol

Absolutely not. I watch anime to have fun, period. And dumb action shows are my bread and butter. I can give up ecchi any time I want, but the day I stop watching those is the day I quit anime all together.

No, I still enjoy all kinds of anime. Depending on my mood, I might even prefer something kind of dumb and silly, as long as I can have fun watching it.

Nope, never grew out of any genre, but I'm not gonna say I can watch whatever because I obviously avoid certain genres (for various reasons) so I just chose the no option.

@tchitchouan Ah I've seen the latest releases so guess I'd stick to the older ones I've yet to see. Thanks for the "stacks" link.
@Serafos Oooh yuri is a lovely genre which is underrated since they focus mostly on yaoi nowadays. At least in the manga section.

I can watch the same story over and over as long as I like the art style and at least one character. Unless it's isekai/fantasy with an overpowered MC and no world building.

Outgrown? I don't think it's necessary. What matters is expanding your horizons; I'm ok with finding something good or bad in every genre.

I like some "trash anime you should outgrow" and I dislike some others, I like some "mature anime for an adult audience" and I dislike some others, I like some popular anime and I dislike some others, I like some unpopular anime and I dislike some others, and so on.

Absolutely, you're not alone. Tastes evolve over time. What thrilled you as a kid might not hit the same way years later. You say you've moved from high-energy shonen to more nuanced seinen, and I ’ve shifted to slice of life and CGDCT from historical anjme and psychological thrillers. It's a sign of growth,

I think I have outgrow high-school rom-com anime at this point. It was interesting the first couple of times, but they very much feel like "you've seen one, you've seen them all." Even in other rom-coms with high-school age characters, they at least don't have the crutch of using the school to drive the plot.

Outgrow "trash" kind of like anime

I don't know how old you are now or how long you have been into this medium, but chances are unless one is talking about outgrowing children's programing one will likely come back to favor things they grew up with once before.

Reminds me of how I use to listen to Shoegazer music in the very early 90s only to suddenly get more into listening to Jungle, Drum and Bass, Break Beats, House, and Trance by the mid 90s. Even strict electronic music fell out of favor for a while when I started to get more into some Hip Hop by the late 90s and also found a new love for 80s British Sin Pop in the 2000s. My Wife also introduced me to quite a lot of Japanese artists in the 2000s. Now almost 3 decades later I find myself back listening to modern music that tries to imitate actual Shoegazer from the late 80s. I still listen to House music from time to time, but it's mainly just Jazz music with electronic beats.

I don't I've outgrown on any genre. More like I've grown into a few genres. When I was starting to watch anime, I wasn't interested in romance shows and now I've watched a few and liked most of them.

When they try to push you AOT, Eva and Code Geass for masterpieces, some trash is indeed the more sophisticated and mature alternative than those teen melodramas.

The question of your title and the question of your post are different.
"Outgrowing" a genre makes no sense, just stop consuming the slop of such genre and your problem is solved.

Isekai and native isekai don't work for me anymore. Therefore I won't watch seasonal isekai or native isekai, I'll just limit that option to reverse isekai like Solo Leveling or Dead Mount Death Play.
Shounen is also getting bad for me. I'll still watch some seasonal shounen if I can respect the show like Bleach.
Ecchi and erotica I still like.
The only genre I will totally not watch seasonal shows of is romance.

Not really, but if I had to say one it would be generic romance animes like Nagatoro or Rent a Grilfriend where the whole show revolves around a certain dynamic between the 2 mcs that is interesting for about 2 episodes.

Same and agreed as standards or taste in anime can change over years.

Balance is key imo, each season I select from a pool of new anime from bunch of different genres, rarely I watch more than 2 anime of the same genre per season unless sequels come around, balance is key to keep kinda enjoying anime as a whole.

I've not really outgrown any particular genre, I tend to keep my watch habits fairly diverse, though I have stopped watching long shows. Your Naruto's, One Pieces and the like. Mostly now-a-days I'll stick to a few short series a season, 12 to 24 episodes at max with the only real prerequisite being that the plot seems interesting and it has a female protagonist.
