The double standard when it comes to censorship in anime.

It seems to me that there’s a double standard to the modern anime fandom when it comes to censorship in anime dubs. Why do I say this, because due to a certain dub that has caused “controversy” in the past seven years. That anime I’m talking about is the Dragon Maid dub from Funimation in 2017.

In episode 12 of the Dragon maid dub, Tohra asked Lucoa why is she wearing the clothes she’s wearing and Lucoa responds, "oh those pesky patriarchal societal demands were getting on my nerves, so I changed clothes". That quote means that Lucoa is a hardcore feminist who stands up against the patriarchy. Fans’ reactions to the “patriarchy” line change were not positive. They claim that adding the word “patriarchy” in the dub made Dragon Maid “woke”.

This confuses me because adding the word patriarchy in the dub didn’t change anything about the anime and Dragon Maid was “woke” from the beginning. What confuses me more is that those same fans didn’t say anything when the old dubs of Digimon, Pokémon, one piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, DBZ, and Salior Moon were censored to pieces back in the 90s and 2000s. Older anime fans knew that those dubs were censored, yet the younger anime fandom bats an eye on those and continue to complain about the Dragon maid dub adding one word in a script. What is your stance on this?

Don't be ignorant because everyone complained at the old 2000s anime censorship talking about how ridiculous it was to completely wipe over scenes because they're not child friendly enough and pretend people didn't die. Also it doesn't matter if u think something is "Woke" changing dialogue at any point shouldn't happen even if it as u think, doesn't stray from the shows tone.
I've looked to make a real anime waifu,
Too spin my world around like a typhoon,
Why do people keep calling me a raccoon,
Maybe because I keep stealing anime girls hearts like gru steals the moon.

In the 90s and 00s people just watched anime to enjoy it. Nowadays you have a million people desperately wanting to be outraged, so they log on to Twitter and Youtube everyday to spend hours listening to grifters who comb through media trying to find something to blow out of proportion and complain ab out. If the Dragon Maid dub came out prior to like 2015 no one would have batted an eye, because losing one's mind over a single line of dialogue is self-evidently ridiculous.

So you're either being disingenuous or you have no idea what your talking about. People were pissed because the entire context of the scene was changed not just one word. And you seem to be confusing censorship with localization

And there's nothing "woke" about Maid Dragon, Etcchi Yuri has always been a thing

From what I've seen the vast majority criticize the censorship and changes in Digimon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh! and the original (I think) DBZ dub. Don't know anything about Sailor Moon other than they turned a lesbian relationship into incest through censorship lol way to fuck up and also to predict the medium.

Those who defend those dubs are few and often mocked as nostalgic weirdos by the rest, so I don't see the double standard in these particular cases.

From what I understand, Pokémon is a special case because the whole thing was basically rewritten, the script is a lot different, thus the more westernized dub is preferred over the original version (of which I have only seen the first opening, which I do not like).
