Lol, that gender bender element took off fast. Jokes aside, this has light humor and some fun character chemistry. Ranma is obviously someone to watch out for but his family and friends are there too. Definitely had some similarities in terms of humor style compared to Urusei Yatsura since it's from the original creator. |

You know this looks very similar, visually, to the Urusei Yatsura remake, though I think it could be because of the bright colours, but yeah. Not the same studio after all in the end, but anyway, didn’t really expect it to come out this year when it was announced back in this year itself, though yeah, supercomputers of Mappa make anything possible xD Anyway, that look on mister father’s face after feeling the chest of Ranma and verifying he ain’t a guy was actually really something lol. Could be the reason he was crying buckets of tears. Though all hail the sorcery, when hot water turns you back into the guy… so yeah, and then cold water into a girl. This world needs these kinda powers ngl. Still, the fault lies into the father-son duo and their outrageous actions. Guy could be glad that he didn’t turn into a panda at least lol. Also yeah, if someone was hoping for some good ol’ nipples and such, there AIN’T ANY. Chaotic premise, and chaotic start. Just what you’d expect from the works of this author. Also, the count of seeing each other naked in bath just for the sake of it currently stands at 2, and we just finished the first episode. Let's see how high it goes lol. |

Other than being leaked beforehand, it's now ACTUALLY here. And I mean, for what reason, I'm still not sure. It's censored already, and other than that banger of an OP, not really sure what purpose for this to exist. UY was one thing because it was an actual classic, this though? I doubt many out of Japan have even heard of this Rumiko work before.... Should've just made a InYusha remake, but whatever. Though, we're stuck with this, and there' nothing we can do about it, so mean as well take what we can get. Episode just sets the basic premise of that Mr. Panda and Ranma went to China of all places and when going into some special water transformed to something else. The sansei or whatever, turning into Mr. Panda, and Ranma, a girl. And now, when dosed with HOT water, NOT boiling water xD, transform back to their normal form, or something with cold water and Ranma transforming back idk. So yeah, it's a unique premise for sure, but for if this can last as long as FOUR HUNDERED CHAPTERS, who knows. Yeah, he's gonna grow to love her fiancé in the end, same as UY, but IDK if you can really repeat that for as long as UY did. It was getting a bit repetitive near the end. This'll just suffer from the same problem UY has, with since it's episodic, everything just goes back to normal by the end, not really leaving much room for development. For a first episode, it was fun, I guess. MAPPA animating this doesn't really change much, I'd say it's no different from david and UY. At least we know the production is healthy, considering it's all tweleve episodes got leaked. Just would hope it wouldn't have been censored, but whatever. |

The female mangaka maestro of Rumiko Takahashi is back, this time with yet another remake of one of her more famous series: Ranma ½ with MAPPA at the helm, a quarter-century since the first adaptation by Studio Deen. I mean, after the work that David Productions did on Urusei Yatsura, this is pretty much a given. ano's OP is so perfect being tradtional, yet modern music, what a bop. Riria's ED is simple, but effective. Also, most of the original VAs from the 90s series are back, so that's an extra bit to add to the nostalgia. The Tendo family receiving their guest of Ranma Saotome, whom faces a rather giant panda on his way to the estate being manhandled. And to think that both the panda and the Tendo head Soun are friends at that, the latter can't believe that Ranma's...a woman, who's supposed to be a fiancé for the family. Despite being a girl that initially got along with the youngest sister of Akane, she has to bear the unfortunate reality of witnessing Ranma, now this time, a man. Once again, another introduction in order: Ranma and his father of Genma, and to explain his sex shift, it's as easy as throwing him into cold water, same likewise with Genma to transform into his panda self, because their training to the Legendary Ground of Accursed Springs, Jusenkyo, in Qinghai, China...shows off just how heated the father-and-son rivalry is, being cursed to transform to the Spring's features that they turn into. That's how they got here in the first place, but some hot water (not boliing water) doused onto them will transform them back to their human selves...and Soun giving Ranma the choice between his 3 daughters, Akane is the least warranted because she labelled him as a pervert. The older sisters of Nabiki and Kasumi are nice, but Akane not being able to accept Ranma's womanly side...is also a problem. Oh welp, being both fiancé and fiancée, will Ranma and Akane attempt to get along? Unlike Urusei Yatsura, Ranma ½ is following the original manga very closely, like you would expect of any remake/reboot adaptation. This should be easy on the anime's remake going forward, but for now, it's a great showing. |

The ep. is so nostalgic. that's how my childhood favorite manga (before Tsubasa becoming one) started. but it's so colorful... sketch type ED... nice~ (OP already seen) https://www.animatetimes.com/news/details.php?id=1728138157 |

Ranma 1/2 (or Sailor Moon) was I think the first anime I've ever watched back when you could still see nipples on the kids TV block. Good times. Nostalgia bound to hit hard with this one. The OP kept some elements like the martial arts choreo kept and the spirit of the OG, but amped it up and there's much more going on now. |

The remake is great so far. I feel like Ranma will suffer from a lot of haters this season, but I say it again, I'll always be here to praise this anime if the direction and animation of this episode remains throughout the anime! The Op and End are great, the animation was very fluid at times, the art direction is incredible, and the voice acting matches the characters perfectly. The episode as a whole was fun and easy to follow, with a lot of dynamics between the characters and good comedy, For me, there is nothing to complain about. Looking forward to the next episode. |

Gotta say not a bad start. Though from I remember the manga had a different start. Maybe a little different from the first anime series. If they plan to adapt everything. Then I loo forward to it tremendously. There are some arcs that I want to see adapted too. The censorship looks reasonable but weird. I don’t mind it though. Because I want comedy and martial arts action stuff instead. |

@ArimaKana I ask the question of why because nowadays when I ask someone which of Ruimiko's works they now, most of the time they UY and InuYasha. Very rarely do I hear people saying Ranma nowadays. I won't sit here and lie and act like it's nor popular, because basically anything the woman makes it popular, but if they really wanted to make a lot of money, than an InuYasha remake would make the most sense, seeing as it's her most popular work and is still highly regarded to this day. |

@IzanaSolos This is Rumiko Takahashi's most popular manga, selling 55 million volumes compared to Urusei Yatsura's 35 million, Maison Ikkoku's 25 million and InuYasha's 50 million. It's also her most popular work overseas by a decent amount. |

Very chaotic and very cute. I have seen the original back when I was a little kid, so I don't remember too much. So, it's like I'm watching it for the first time. Many funny moments and cute moments from what I can see. Ranma's dad is just as I remember him. The animation is amazing and the music is great as well. The OP gives a very nostalgic feeling to it and the ED is too darn cute between Akane and Ranma. Very adorable. Can't wait to go through this journey properly this time around. |

And, to answer your question, why? Cuz, the original anime never was fully adapted from its source material and had way too many fillers alongside going off-track with the show many times during its original airing. You have no clue how badly a remake Ranma fans have been asking for how long and it's 30 years after the original aired. Ranma is a far bigger classic than UY, even internationally, one of the most iconic shows ever created, just so you know. Hope, that helps. |

That was such a fun start, love the old style comedy. Animation, visuals are quite similar to Urusei Yatsura remake. Love the vibrant and colorful visuals. Why does this look worse than the 30+ year old anime? Whoever is in charge of color direction needs to be fired asap. I wasn't much of a fan of how the UY reboot looked, but this is clearly even worse. The senseless censorship doesn't even need to be mentioned. Just awful. I love that they got the old seiyuu back though, that's a big reason for why I won't completely write off this cashgrab. |

Body proportions, lmao. Highlight of the episode, for good reason. Jokes aside, this was a really fun and quirky pilot episode. I just saw the tag but didn’t realise the gender bend would work that way, lol. Urusei Yatsura was good-ish for me but here’s to hoping this’ll be a tier above that. Final shot of the two eyes meeting says a lot that’s to come xD and I’m on board! Ano-san’s Op fits this series too well and the ED is nice too. Seems like there’s a lot going on in the Op though, here’s to hoping the wonderful staff at MAPPA don’t try and cram too much here. |

Ah...MAPPA's age-rated 12 Ranma 1/2 It's cool how they got Hayashibara-san, Yamaguchi-san and Hidaka-san and others back for this. The OP makes notable references to Jajauma ni sasenaide like the gong, fluid martial art movements and the two leads standing back-to-back. So this is the second time? MAPPA have a Panda brawler (the other being JJK's Panda, ah wouldn't it be funny if Seki Tomokazu were the new Genma Saotome voice instead. The screen tone and sound effects really give it that manga feel. Akane and Ranma sparring scene nailed the animation and their expressions before Ranma's secret was revealed were cute, too. lol Akane's elder sisters (long live Inoue-san and Takayama-san!) recognise the man-hating martial artist Akane is the best match for half-girl martial artist Ranma. On some parts they are going faithfulness hence the Jusenkyo is actually closer to the manga for lacking nipples but Ranma pouring cold water in the bathroom was unfortunately censored; that part was in the manga and the first adaptation did it right. Another minus for me is no eye catch at all, they didn't even try to make a different one like David Pro did for the UY remake. |

So far episode one is alright.... the pacing compared to the original feels off. The original ranma 1/2 had great pacing so far this first episode was very fast almost feeling like bullet points. Even though they basically have the same dialog and end off the same it just felt very fast. I don't really know how to explain it. If you are a fan of the original series let me know if you feel the same. By the way I can't wait for kuno! The blue thunder of furinken high age seventeen. |

Hello everyone, I watched the first episode of the remade/remastered Ranma 1/2. It looks fresh, funny and not boring at all, it keeps its pace at almost all the time and this made me give to it a solid 8 to the first look. I hope the second episode will be good as the first one. |

I am actually surprised that an episode thread was made only now when the whole series was leaked months ago lol. Also, is it just me or are the subs a bit different from the leaked episodes? The episode starts with "Somewhere in Tokyo in the '80s." Pretty ballsy of them to set the series in a single timeframe like that from the start. I'm a bit more surprised about the fact that they made this set in the 80s instead of the 90s since the majority of the manga and the original anime came out during the 90s. It's crazy. I don't really have much to say except that it was just a pretty 1:1 remake of the first episode of the original, which makes sense cause both are adapting the first 2 chapters. We won't see any deviations or content skips until later. Hopefully, it won't be as bad as the Urusei Yatsura remake. I'm still not sure about the artstyle. Sure, it looks way better than the compressed videos on YouTube and the leak that was in like 360p but I'm still not used to the colors. I get that Takahashi used pastel colors when Ranma was still running but I don't think it looks very good in anime. The fight scene animation looks fluid and I have no qualms about that. But it's going to take time to get used to the artstyle. I'm going to miss redhead Ranko. :( I like the OP but the real surprise for me was the ED. I really like its vibe. Hopefully there will be more cozy OPs and EDs. Some of the original OPs and EDs are really timeless. I hope they'll make newer versions of them for the Remake. I listened to the dub here and there and they sound fine. Netflix obviously didn't get the original voices back. After they didn't bring back the original cast for Evangelion I had no expectation of them doing so here. I'm just gonna continue with the sub as always. Plus it'd feel wrong to not listen to the original voice actors of most of the main cast who returned after so long and they may finally get their wish of seeing the Ranma 1/2 anime conclude instead of getting axed. Please don't get axed again. I'm just surprised Netflix is releasing dubs on the same day. Blows HIDIVE and their awful UY dub out of the water. There's also the censorship. I'm not sure what I expected. I think the nudity was censored possibly because of broadcasting rights in other countries that have more stricter guidelines Re:ZERO Season 3 or because they wanted to keep the age rating of this anime low. Which is fair enough. But I wish they tried harder to hide the nipples instead of giving them the Barbie doll treatment. It looks really bizarre and I don't think I'll ever get used to it. Oh well. It feels so surreal to see a Ranma remake just a few months after Urusei Yatsura ended. Like goddamn, they didn't even give me enough time to move on and feel excited for this. It was that fast. So glad I didn't watch ALL of the leaks. I hope we're in for the long haul with this one. It'd be a shame if they pulled a fast one and didn't even adapt the best and the most anticipated chapters of the series. |

I ain't even gonna bother arguing with you. No one cares about ranna outside Japan. Ask any random anime fan of he's heard of ranma. Now ask them if they've heard of urusei yatsura. The chances of it being the later is much higher buuut if it let's you sleep happily then sure buddy.
@SabreDrago Has it occurred to you that, perhaps, most of the anime fans you're surveying are younger, tend to skew mostly towards watching things released after 2010, and UY had a recent reboot that brought it back into the spotlight for that demographic? |

@Moribax I'll just bite and say, the other guy was talking about manga (and probably anime and other Japanese media), not Western media. And he's right. I've seen countless references to Urusei Yatsura in countless anime. So much so that I knew about Lum before I even knew the name of the anime she's from. I can't say the same about Ranma. And if you really wanna get technical, Urusei Yatsura and Lum inspired literally hundreds if not thousands of Japanese creators. If you read what other mangakas have to say about Urusei Yatsura you'll have an idea about just how big deal it was back when it came out. So many comedy and romance mangas and even freaking Fullmetal Alchemist probably wouldn't exist if not for Urusei Yatsura. I suggest giving these a read- Mitsuru Adachi: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin02.html Noizi Ito: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin13.html Hiromu Arakawa: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin16.html Junji Ito: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin22.html Katsutoshi Kawai: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin24.html Tetsuo Hara: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin25.html Koji Kumeta: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin27.html Kiyohiko Azuma: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin31.html Chika Umino: https://www.furinkan.com/uy/manga/shin32.html And this is just from the manga. The 80s anime was so successful that Lum was a household name. Meanwhile, Ranma 1/2 had ratings issues and already got canceled once before they even finished season 1. The original anime of Urusei Yatsura had so many people working on it who would go on to be veterans of the industry like Mamoru Oshii. It was a melting pot of young talent which is what made the series even more popular and influential. Even on Urusei Yatsura's 45th anniversary, we had plenty of famous mangakas pay tribute to it by drawing various characters. And one of them was freaking Eiichiro Oda among so many other legends- https://reddit.com/r/uruseiyatsura/comments/18ql2we/urusei_yatsura_45th_anniversary_illustrations_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 I can't say I have seen anything like this being made for Ranma 1/2 at any point. If we look at Western references, sure it's kinda dry. We had Star Trek referencing UY a few times- https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Urusei_Yatsura There was a Scottish rock band named Urusei Yatsura. And Matthew Sweet had some songs that referenced the series I think. And well, the biggest thing might be the infamous BBC parody dub from 2001 which I still see being passed around here and there. https://youtu.be/T4CAlyuvXdU?si=pbQt8Sd2QufQYN2f UY may not be as popular outside Japanese shores mainly due to the failure of localization but you can find it if you really look for it. And it's popular where it really matters which is its home country Japan. I'm not saying Ranma 1/2 was bad or anything (tho the original anime was a disappointment and never had an ending for some reason) but without Urusei Yatsura there'd be no Ranma. |

@utopia- I don't think so. Fans aren't usually this fast and they definitely don't make subs for the hearing impaired. If it's true that the leak was from some sort of dubbing or localization company then it's obvious why Netflix would throw away those subs and hire someone else lol. |

@0451 I didn't even know there were subtitles for people with hearing impairment, It's good to know that animes is becoming more inclusive. Well, if you says it wasn't the fans, maybe your hypothesis is right, I don't know... |

Well, if you says it wasn't the fans, maybe your hypothesis is right, I don't know...

@utopia- Yeah, Netflix does that for every show including anime. Tho I think they only do it for English voices aka dubtitles. |

@0451 So that explains why I didn't know about this before. I don't usually watch the English dubbing, after all my language is Portuguese, honestly I prefer to watch it with subtitles and the original dubbing(Japanese) |

@IzanaSolos Bro what are you talking about Ranma 1/2 is a classic! Plus, the original anime is really slow. This one already feels better. Anyways, as I'm sure you could guess, I absolutely loved that and can't wait for more. |
