This is yet another Studio NUT original like last Fall's Bullbuster, but focusing on the recreational sport of fishing instead.

The overburdened college student of Sasaki Tsunehiro, riddled with debt and having brain cancer that only allows him another two years left to live. And the last thing to expect being chased by loansharks whilst doing his usual gambling routine, nothing seems to go well for him since everything that he does only goes one way: down. And falling into the ocean whilst escaping, an Isekai reincarnation he was hoping for it's not, being saved by Takaaki Tsutsujimori and Hana Ayukawa, as well as their group of fishing enthusiasts, being drafted by the strong current far away to the breakwater. And since dawn hasn't broke, Hana forces Sasaki to try fishing...though karma hits back at them being friends of the sea, and you definitely DO NOT want to mess with them.

Takaaki and Hana teaching Sasaki all about fishing, and the time before dawn that the casual anglers all do their usual fishing, Sasaki caught his first fish of a mackerel, and the feeling begins to slowly sink in, which thereby he has a battle with a formidable sea bass that escaped, and instead, swarmed in schools of fish that everyone is able to reel in a good capacity thanks to his luck.

But just when things are looking good for him, Sasaki being escorted by Takaaki home...to find his house demolished, what's he to do?

It's a decent start for a calm atmosphere, though I'd like to see how much Sasaki is riddled with bad luck.

There's been plenty, and I mean PLENTY of originals to come out this year. Some misses, some MAJOR misses, and maybe one or two of them being a gem. Now, this season we have two orangelos that stand out on top as originals that could break the curse of the bad originals this year. With the first of the two being this one to start it off.

Right off the bat, you can tell this isn't your normal anime. I mean, it begins with our main dude trying to commit suicide. Though, from there, we can see why he's depressed, he's lonely, AND he gambles. I'd bet MY money on one of the main reasons for his depression being that he loses all his money on gambling. Joking of course, but depression's no joke, but I'm not so sure that gambling is a good way to avoid it.

Being a gambler and all, of course he has to pay debts. Poor dude getting chased by the debt collectors for half the episode. Which of course leads to him falling into the water and getting saved by our main cast. Just from what follows afterwards, you can just tell what this show'll be about. Just ordinary stuff like learning how to fish with your brothers.

Nice mini drop, btw, "Angler" lols. Maybe there's an angler called NegaPosi or something that we'll get by the end of the show. But look at how much out dude has grown in just one episode, from doing nothing but gamble to GETTING HIS FIRST FISH... on his Angler rod.... Didn't catch it, but it's a start. It's an accomplishment in itself to catch that big of a fish on your first try. Also got to see a school of fish on the way.

But yeah, poor dude got that Tonikawa treatment, and his apartment is FUCKING GONE LMAOOOOO.

Very fun start, couldn't be more excited for these next few weeks.

It almost feels like this anime was ordered to be made by someone, there is a lot of young people like Sasaki in our society, everywhere in the world actually, and this is their story ... with a lot of comedy on top, lol.

So let's see if the power of friendship and some fishing's gonna save the day this time again.

Decent start. We definitely don't have too many anime about fishing. I have only watched Houkago Teibou Nisshi and Slow Loop so far.

So many hilarious facial expressions. :P

Hana is very beautiful. <3

Instead of chasing Tsunehiro for money they should've taken his win from the pachinko machine. These debt collectors are an amusing bunch.

Nice change of pace from some of the cute girl fishing anime in recent years. Definitely didn't expect a roping attempt right off the bat, tho, lol. Like the atmosphere and colorful cast in contrast to Sasaki' depressing life. A group like that saving your life and introducing you to fishing is a much more interesting premise than getting reincarnated in another world as way out of depression in 2024. It's ironic how lucky he can get at pachinko and fishing when he's also getting cancer and losing his place.

When life gives you hardships, you must fight back for your life a fish.

I imagine this is an anime tailor-made for young people that have been struggling in the difficulties of life like Sasaki, and to an extent, it was definitely relatable. It feels like a fun story of hope and friendship, with fishing as the main activity, We've had some fishing anime in the past like Slow Loop, but here, it seems like we're dealing with some more mature subject matter, like mental health and how to deal with adversity, and the show gave a parallel to how fish have to fight back from the hands of fishermen, just like us humans have to fight back against our difficulties. Pretty solid start to an anime if you ask me, and one to look out for in this season.

The character design is weird. It has two different art styles at the same time; realistic type and comedy type with deformation. (Matsumoto Reiji had similar style.)

Hana's cute and was fun to watch. The debt collectors were funny too. That's about it, for now. Not interested in fishing or don't really eat a lot of fish myself but been fishing before and can somewhat relate. I do wonder how him having only 2 years left to live will affect the story so we'll see.

And so begins my Fall season. An original fishing anime from the studio who should be bringing you Tanya the Evil 2. I'm still gonna cheer for this just because it's an original.

I'm already liking the main character. Lost everything in a market crash, he's in a shitload of debt, he's dying from his brain cancer or whatever while also failing to speed up the process. Truly a hero for our times. We'll see how this goes, with MC failing to get isekai'd and instead having to go fishing to run away from his problems. Strong start.

Not sure about the decision to pour high budget into fishing anime. Fishing is not even my favorite sports. But on the other hand, Coen brothers' a Serious Man is my favorite film in which the protagonist face looping sequences between good news and bad news. Everytime he has a bad news it'll be followed by a bigger good news, and everytime he has a good news it'll be followed by a bigger bad news, and this anime's protagonist Hiro reminds me of that.

I was not expecting this heavy of a beginning in what i expect to my cozy anime this season. Still this was a very enjoyable first episode, i am very much looking forward to more cozy fishing! I might not be a Fishing person, but i really enjoyed watching "Our days at the breakwater" so i expect i'll have a good time here too

I'm amazed they managed to level his entire house in a single night, those workers sure are quick

What can I say... It was really fun to watch.
The whole episode I was like, "A suicidal gambler? This dude is just like me!"
I really feel sorry for him 😭. I wonder how the plot will continue in the next episodes.

The animation is not bad. There's nothing to say.

But the characters...
Some of the characters are quite unusual. Like VERY unusual. For example, that girl with blue hair and a silent man who looks like a potato.
But the rest are pretty nice and the mc is really enjoyable.

So far 7.5 out of 10, but we’ll see how it turns out.

Studio nut giving us another show before youjo senki season 2 😔 but if this is anywhere near as good as their last work I saw , Deca-Dence I’m down. Haven’t had a fishing anime since Houkago teibou nisshi and y’all know how much I loved that show. First episode here really good, Hiro only having two years to live adds some interesting stakes to the story!

Pretty funny bro could’ve had all his debt paid off if he just stayed at the slot machine lmao. But everything happens for a reason, leaving out led to him ending up on that breakwater fishing trip and introduced him to his new friends. Nothing can make you lock in to a new hobby like a cute girl, Hana is adorable and it’s good to have another Fayrouz Ai role after Mayopan!

I think there’s a lot of cool life lessons this show can teach with Hiro staring down the end of his life and looking at how the fish fight back when being reeled in, their desire to live, the patience needed to become a good fisherman etc. Def think this is gonna have some emotional moments and I can’t wait to see it.

That ending with Hiro house being demolished tho.. damn no notice??! Excited for the next episode.

This feels depressing but at the same time intriguing. I don't wanna let my guard down when I'm watching this. Two years left to live. Don't make me cry by the end of the show. Please.

Hiro is going through a lot and just when he wanted to give up on things, he found fishing which is still not something he considers fun, but it'll take time. So, keep on practicing. Hana is cute and Takaki seems cool as well. But, what will Hiro do now without his home? The whole gang is chill even the Loan sharks looked like funny guys. Can't wait to see more of their interactions.

I don't know if there is any anime out there that is simply about fishing. Regardless, I have a feeling this anime is going to be pretty chill to watch till the end with some twists or turn of events between the episodes. The first episode started off with a very interesting plot and the characters are likeable (so far).

Looking forward to seeing how things will turn out for Sasaki!

Looked stunning. A show about trying to get your life back together (or maybe in his case, with the supposed limited amount of time he has left, just trying to enjoy life again) with some help from a social hobby, I can get behind that.

A lot more serious than Diary of a Breakwater Club, which I loved, but I'll keep watching for now. Looking forward to seeing more fishing!

Also that girl with the blue eyes who gave the MC a fishing rod, what's up with their hair? lol I swear it looks like her hair is a ball or a sack 🤣

Seems okay, but definitely more interested in the drama aspects of the show over the actual fishing. Did not expect it to be so dark at the beginning then for the mood to just lighten up during the episode.

A very entertaining first episode! The character designs are quite varied and the anime takes a different approach. Personally, this genre is the kind of content I enjoy watching to pass the time and get lost in existential thoughts, especially with a protagonist like Tsunehiro, who has faced numerous misfortunes: debts, his house being destroyed, and only two years to live. I doubt this anime will focus much on fishing as a sport, but rather as an escape route to rebuild one's life.

It's depressing, it's funny, it's a vibe, it's fun, it's fishing, it's Fairouz Ai!

I love the characters!
Takaaki is the type of friend that will always find a way to cheer you up, which is exactly what Hiro needs.
And if he is the one that gives everyone an initial push, Hana is the one that makes sure you will always have fun. (Fairouz Ai fits the role perfectly)
This feels like a complete group of friends already and it will even more when we get to explore other characters.
Can't wait for next episode!

An anime about fishing... This is definitely my first anime on this topic, I've never watched anything like it, It looks like it will be a relaxing and sometimes dark anime, with a bit of comedy, this first episode was promising, I liked how everything unfolded in just this episode.

The animation sometimes peaks, like in the scene of him drowning. Maybe this is the "hidden gem of the season", a big bet I would say...

I don't know what tone this series will have from here on out. It's going to be very difficult to balance both the drama and the comedy, and all this fishing stuff. Since it is an original anime we already know that the MC He'll die in the last chapter, so I'm really curious how they'll handle all of that.

well I never really expected a hanging scene for the first second but.........I think I preferred him dead cause they were looking into turning him into a tsundere at somepoint and I also thought the character would be really smart or at least average but it turned out the opposite but I'm still waiting for some twists saying miraculously he was cured due to his fishing skills😂😂

So we have this dude who's jsut about to end his life due to debts and a terminal illness pretty much having by pure luck meet with a group of anglers (fishermen pretty much) and learning how to do it in order to regain that sensation and feeling of wanting to live. This is a very cool approach for a fishing anime, none had caught my eye since Slow Loop and this one seems to go into a more melodramatic direction with possible tragedy coming by the end.

Nonetheless, the sheer life reflection it presents, the various charming characters and specially the soundtrack having a major play on each scene varying from acoustic to progressive depending on the mood is something I truly value in this. I have no clue how it is so low in the season popularity ranking but if the direction is solid it's bound to be picked up eventually.

A new fishing anime baby! As someone that loves fishing, I’ve been wanting another one for a long time, the last one i remember coming out was “Slow Loop” back in Winter 2022, and that was right after I watched “Diary of our days at the Breakwater” so it was like it was meant to be lol, and I loved both of those shows very much, but as far as I know we haven’t gotten another fishing anime since then, so I’m very happy to have another at long last, and this time it’s not CGDCT and it’s got a great budget looks like, art and animation were awesome! And it’s off to a great start, despite the seriousness of Tsunehiro’s circumstances with not having long to live, this turned out to be quite the lighthearted and fun episode, even the debt collectors were plain goofy and not threatening lol.

And the fishing gang is quite goofy too, you have some relatively normal folks like Takaaki and Hana, but there’s also that short dude who looks like he came from a different show as well as that blue haired chick lol, but hey, all types like fishing so that’s fine and dandy. And Tsunehiro tried to resist the temptation of fishing, but none last for long lol, fishing anime do not discriminate with their victims, and it didn’t take long and the lad is already getting into it, after the first catch he himself was hooked lol, it’s unfortunate he couldn’t get that sea bass but I’m sure he’ll get his revenge if he ever goes fishing again, and with the reveal that his home is demolished… he’s going fishing again lol.

And no OP or ED yet but I’m looking forward to hearing them, here’s to another great fishing anime!
