As a male myself, I always find myself liking male artists instead of females. Though there are some females I like listening to, I always find myself listening to males more. This could be because I think males have more range compared to females. Most females don't do it for me in a way. Which gender do you prefer listening to and why?

Depends on the music genre. If I'm listening to metal and opera, then I usually prefer male singers.

Stratovarius - Black Diamond

Jussi Björling - O Helga Natt

And when I'm listening anime soundtracks, then I like female singers better.

When I was younger, I'd agree, but I listen to plenty from both men and women these days.

You and most guys. A lot of us growing up if you were a rock and metal fan you'd mostly hear dudes.

I still think the singer from Pantera has the craziest high-register.

seven minutes but it flies right by lol. It's at the end!! ;D

I listen mostly to rock or rap, which are both genres with predominantly male singers, so yeah I guess I do prefer male singers over female ones. Although I do listen to quite a few female singers as well. I'd say female singers are a lot better when it comes to pop music. I really only listen to Albanian female singers tho.

I don't think I have a preference.

I just listen to good music without paying any mind to the singer gender.

I dunno why, but for English, Russian, and Hebrew music, I gravitate towards male singers while for Japanese and French music I prefer female. I think the languages just are suited to different timbres.

Not sure if I have a preference in this regard, but male singers offer a wider vocal range from low to high, whereas female singers mostly offer mid to high.

I generally prefer male singers for Germanic languages (primarily English and German) and female singers for (East) Asian languages (mostly Japanese, Korean and Mandarin), however, I also listen to the respective opposite and other constellations for a change

I listen to mostly male vocals and I think a lot of tracks I like when it comes to electronic music would benefit from mixing in male vocals instead of female. And in all other genres I listen exclusively to male singers. But there is this one specific thing, a lot of modern Slavic folk inspired music makes use of deeper female vocals and I really like that, I don't think a guy could do that.

I really like both actually. Depending on music style i may have a preference for one over another.

Not too many male vocalists go for the high notes though and some females can go much higher. So the range is probably the same just in a different range id assume. Though i think it seems otherwise since most songs dont use those very high ranges.

I like both options. It also depends a lot on the musical genres one likes.

Since I was a child I always listened to a lot of hardcore and punk. And clearly you have many more bands with male voices than female ones.
Here in Argentina there are very few bands of that genre with a woman at the front. And internationally the percentage is higher.

I also really like Spanish rock (from Spain). It has great bands and singers like Extremoduro, La Fuga, Gritando en Silencio or Marea. And they are all male voices.

I listen to a lot of national indie too, where it's more mixed. You have a female voice like in Las Ligas Menores and a male voice in El Mató a un Policía Motorizado.

But I also really like Italian Pop. And there it is more varied, many female voices that I love, like Francesca Michielin, Annalisa, Emma, Levante, Madame, Rose Villain, Arisa or La Rappresentante di Lista.
And also male voices like Ultimo, Gazzelle, Lazza, Rocco Hunt, Tiziano Ferro, Achille Lauro, etc.

In short, I think that as a matter of statistics, I hear more male voices. But I like both in their own way.

Yes, definitely. All my favorite singers have a third leg.
Since it's usually men who have more range and power, I'm deeply drawn to a dualistic voice that can be both melodic and aggressive, and sounds good both in high and low notes: Corey Taylor, Josh Homme, Peter Steele, JP Anderson, Chino Moreno. Most, if not all rock/metal singers are male for a reason. Rough vocals (Liam Gallagher, Kelly Jones) are up my alley as well as soothing ones (Thom Yorke, James Taylor). I'm also a daughter of grunge, enamoured with Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley and their respective bands.
My favorite female rockers vocally-wise are Courtney Love and Jessicka from the deceased riot girl group Jack Off Jill.
As for other genres such as pop and soul, Hozier probably has the best male voice in the business, along with plenty of ladies - Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys to name a few.

At times it objectively depends on the type of music: if we have a classical or opera piece a lady's voice is preferred, for country and blues the top picks are men, while in r'n'b, vocal trance and symphonic metal the best are easily women, for punk, hard rock or hardcore it's a men's world, etc...
But there are a few exceptions: many rock/folk ballads (voice + guitar or piano) sound equally beautiful to me, same goes for Japanese rock & pop and anime themes - although Hyde always rules over everyone~
Electronic songs too, they may vary a lot, but being sung by a guy or girl doesn't affect my enjoyment.
Sometimes it really just depends on the song's structure, rhythm and mood.

Obviously, some music makes me wanna cry and/or puke no matter who sings it (see all the autotuned Italian names listed above me for reference). 🙉
