| Do you think most anime tend to exaggerate certain features unnecessarily? Like facial expressions, gestures, reactions, character interactions and stuff like that. Obviously anime has always been more bombastic in portrayal than any western media, and while that can have its own positive aspects, do you think certain series take it too far? And how much can this impact the enjoyment of anime for older demographics? |

| Exaggeration is commonly used to increase the entertainment value, but naturally it doesn't always work out for everyone. I rarely see something that I would deem "too" exaggerated, overall my threshold seems fairly high in that regard, with few exceptions. |

| Exaggeration works well sometimes, making the anime more soulful and distinguishable from other media. Some other times it's just awful, like when some female mangaka write the most obnoxious comedic scenes in their shounen or seinen manga (it doesn't happen with shoujo, so the issue here is what they think boys find funny); Jun Mochizuki, Chica Umino and the Demon Slayer mangaka are the worst offenders. |

| Cartoons absolutely have exaggerated features and expressions that rival if not exceed anime in terms of being "bombastic". As does live action sometimes. Anyone ever seen The Mask with Jim Carrey? Literally a live action cartoon that completely disproves that statement. Anyone who thinks otherwise has been very limited in the media they consume. Fiction in general is suppose to be more exaggerated than real life. Period. That is it's purpose. Especially with animation, which is capable of even more insane things that just about anything else. Why would you want to limit that? |
| Yeah anime does that a lot but that's the charm of animation. It's harder to do that stuff in real life so when creating an anime might as well go all out. |

| for romance part exaggerations are often that not annoying, an excuse to avoid confronting the situation at hand. the problem is that there is no character development most of the time so they stay allergic. the problem is that they want to go for a serious vibe but constant cheap moves like this like it's just a rehearsal for the true romance after they finish school. so, it's part of the reason that i enjoy harem, at least they make it obvious that the show is meant to be stupid enough for it to be legal on tv. |
