| Normally I really, really love the black haired, stoic, onee-san characters but I don't like Mina despite all strength and other qualities. She doesn't do much for me at all. And Shinomiya is even worse. She's never been nice to begin with and her breathtaking arrogance needs to be taken down several notches further. |

After such a horrid performance during the entrance examinations, there should be no logic to explain Kafka’s selection, like literally NO. But him being the main character and this series being uber cliche, of course he’d selected one way or the other, sigh… A BIG FUCKING SIGH. Though I like how at least they’re accepting the fact that he’s a clown, and his selection is based upon that lol.
“i sAw SOmEThInG iN HiM”, like hell you did man. Hoshina a good person, but this still can’t explain his reasons for selecting Kafka, even as a cadet lmaooooo. Anyways, when Kafka interrupted Mina and sounded like the same fucking broken record he is, that was soooooooo embarrassing. I legit got second-hand embarrassment from that lol. Though he won’t learn, and will continue to be the clown of their unit… so yeah.
Unfunny humour and Kafka being hell-bent in competing with a girl literally half his age aside, at least there’d be a fight next episode. The only thing worth looking forward to.

| @Softhenic03 I share the sentiment completely. All that screaming and overreacting that's suppose to be funny is simply NOT. Had that been the only sin, it might pass but there are so many other glaring issues with plot and world building. Even in this episode they are comparing strength and muscles and everyone is in ave in this captain chick who is so flat that chicken wings look buff compared to her. I didn't even get the feeling of scale how much better she is compared to others. Blondie is at least athletic and jumps around. Captain has a tiger and super gun it seems. Bleh. |

| @vankoshtorata sadly it's the opposite for me. Screaming as a form of humor can only last so long. Story is meh at best, typical for battle anime. It seems animation quality dropped a bit with this episode as well. It's filled with cliches and only few things are keeping it watchable, which is good fight scenes. |

| kafka made it through thanks to hoshina wanting a joker around, but he got his own suspicions. kafka speaking out of turn was so awkward lol, but it made mina smile. the training montage with the music was cool, kaiju fight upcoming next. |

| Excellent episode. Loved seeing Kikkoru's blush when Kafka finally showed up. Despite Kafka's outburst, it's nice to see Mina happy with his passing the exam. A nice montage with a surprising insert song, too. Loved seeing the guys bond like that, helps give the newer guys some character. |

| I love that this show doesn’t completely appeal to shonen power fantasy, even if it makes it kind of predictable. You’d just expect the most realistic thing to happen instead of the extraordinary. In this episode, I knew there was no way he passed the test, and I knew he would be behind all the other recruits. It’s kind of refreshing to see the realistic thing happen in an anime like this. (8/10) |
| Ok, Kafka made the vice captain open his eyes. That alone is reason enough for him to take Kafka personally, at least as a cadet. Jokes aside, that observational skill from the 2nd captain was nice. |

| The second-hand embarrassment I got when Kafka interrupted Mina and called her by her first name in front of everyone... *shivers* 3/5 episode. Interesting interactions between the new recruits but Kafka continues to ruin the mood by acting like a kid despite being over 30 years old. Seriously, what was the author thinking? Also not really a fan of him already telling everyone about his relationship with Mina. Them having that somewhat secret connection was kinda endearing but now the appeal is gone because the 32yo dude can't say "no" to a bunch of teenagers. |
| Kafka was very endearing this episode. The group dynamic seems like it gels well. Aoi seems like an interesting guy. I like that we got a male bath scene and not the women's. A small detail that makes it different from other anime. First mission next week! |

| Look, I'm liking that he got to join the force, and made some friends. HOWEVER, I am feeling more and more like his weakness isn't his age but actually his own failure and his fault. Dude, there's no way a guy in his 30s is OLD, nor can they not bench 135 pounds (in the montage he was doing two 45 racks on that bar, that's nothing at all). Many people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are in peak condition (although at 50 it gets much harder). I do like that he has to work up to it, and I hope he does. But if he has been gunning for this his whole life shouldn't he have been training? |

| @Softhenic03 I kind of agree, while the premise is somewhat unique and interesting, the way it's layed out has been super "by the book". Even the speeches and comments from people are just so bland and stereotyped that it makes me cringe. I keep watching because I have high hopes but this was obviously catered towards children. 32 lol is not old. What IS old are his excuses for being weak at what is considered a man's peak in age. |

| Kikoru is sooo cute, kinda shipping she and Kafka hard rn lol. Had a lot of fun with this episode, cant wait for the first real mission next ep Oh yea and Mina smiled! Too bad we didn’t get to see it, but if Kafka keeps being himself, I’m sure we’ll get more of those |

| Both Kafka and Ichikawa are back awaiting their results...and they passed, alongside Kikoru and Iharu Furuhashi, being the new hopefuls of the Defense Force of the class of 27 people. But if there's one thing still biting her, it's Kafka that should be receiving her words. Even though he failed the test, Hoshina had him under his wing as a cadet, not a full-fledged officer like Ichikawa and the rest, plus he's hilarious, so why not? But owing Mina from the start of the induction ceremony by calling her on a first-name basis, everyone's fruitfulness comes from him being a joker. Of course, Kikoru learning of Kafka's true nature as a Kaiju hybrid, it alarms her, but does not stop in the way of her training to the top. The trainings don't get easy, and the guys don't get easy too sharing their aspirations for joining the Defense Force. And of course, Kafka being Mina's childhood friend, he's the closest to her, earning the jealousy of the guys. The form days pass not being easy, especially for Kafka who has to work twice as hard, and even more that his words got to Vice-Captain Hoshina. It's time for their very first mission, all trainings serve out as a test. |

I'm sorry, I'm not judging your opinion (even though I'm a huge fan so I will be biased) but how is it predictable to you? I mean, Kafka jumping in to beat the revived kaiju was predictable but for me it was more of a hype up.
Edit: Nvm, I didn't realize ep. 5 dropped. I'm about to go watch it. I read the manga though so I would still like to know how you find it predictable.

| I feel like my Sundays these days cannot pass without Kafka making me laugh. Him blurting out Mina's name during the ceremony was surreal. I get Hoshina's point that he's the type to brighten up their kind of job, although it's pretty obvious that things will get ugly regardless. That advice of Hoshina to Kafka to not get close to the other officers pretty much confirmed that and personally, I don't want Reno to die (the rest I'd understand but not him). Maybe this is just me being sensitive to unnecessary deaths like in JJK, but Reno is such a great supporting character to Kafka even before he was a Kaiju so I'd probably hate this show if they'll take him out. For real. (Just me having assumptions though.) I really like the big change of heart in Kikoru; at times she still acts like a brat (I know that it's because of her upbringing but so what), but indeed Kafka saved her life and even let her take all the credit so the least she could do is to respect him. I also like Hoshina's awareness to Kafka's "strangeness"; I don't care if that brings trouble for the latter, but I have this secret desire for everybody to know that Kafka is a Kaiju. But Kikoru somehow crashed that desire lol and she actually had a point regarding those Kaiju experiments and their bodies being turned into weapons. As for the other minor characters, Haruichi looks cool but it doesn't feel right to be attached to these characters because who knows, they might end up dead. 😐 I mean, these are monsters they're dealing with... These bath time stories, training and growing together, are all the calm before the storm. And soon enough they're on their first mission, poof. Can't wait for the next episode! |

| I'm guessing it's the Kaiju inside Kafka that's affecting his capabilities with that suit. I mean he already has a much much more powerful suit when he's in his kaiju form. That said, he's now at 1% maybe this will climb even more |
