Some people review the show even after finishing one or two episodes. Personally, I think you should wait till you finish the whole season because very often the first four episodes are just not as good, but I understand some might want to help others to decide whether to watch it or not.

I have also seen people suggesting that MAL should not allow people to rate the show until it officially started (an example could be episodes shown at expos, leaks, pre-releases etc.). I would actually support that.

What is your personal stance?

I rate the show after the first episode and fix it after the final episode, if it needs fixing..

Rate after 1-2 episodes. I won't know how good the anime will be at the end, but I can always evaluate what I watched so far. Will it get worse later? Most anime aren't as good as their first or first few episodes, I'll just adjust the score. I stopped rating dropped anime if I watched less than 50% of the episodes just because they were too many.

Regarding rating pre-releases, the member count will always be too low to be indicative of how it will be rated after its official release, so I'd be ok with covering the score of the anime but it's not really necessary.

After completing a show obviously . Sometimes you have to change rating even after completing a show multiple times just because your thoughts may change . How can you rate while/before watching when you don't even know the rest or the outcome of the series . Plus it's hassle to change it so many times . Rating even means ths rating of the fully complete show .

I used to rate mid-way during a show and adjust if needed

Now I scratched that and rate at the end.

I start rating after I watch a good chunk of episodes, like 5 for a 13 episode series, 10 for a 26 episode series, 20 or so for anything longer and adjust it as I watch.

I rate from the start, cause if i'm watching it, the rating is temporary, meaning even if it is unfair, it won't stay unfair.

but I will never rate something that I have dropped.

After it's over.

Quality can vary so widely over the course of the season, and the ending can also make a pretty significant impact on a score.

I don't see the problem. I think it's better for people to form their opinions about a series early on rather than being potentially bitter about devoting their whole time into a series that they didn't enjoy from start to finish or got little enjoyment out of. And besides, it's up to whoever is reading the review to decide whether or not to trust a reviewer's opinion based on the few episodes they watched.

i rate it after the first episode and just adjust it whenever needed. i get to episode 4 and don't like it as much? just lower the score. i get to the end and like it more than i originally did? i up the score. it's not a big deal to change it every now and then, and it can be helpful to have it rated beforehand.

I rate the current status of the show always in my head like "up until this point they hitting every beat and if this keeps going at that quality, I feel like it could become one of my favorites". Something like this.
But actually rating it, I do it only after I watched it to the end.

I don't rate a show until I complete it or drop it.

I already know that I'm subconsciously anchoring on my initial score when deciding a final rating, so no need to make that initial rating even more salient.

Reviewing after the first episode shouldn't even be considered a "Review", it's a first impression at most. A review is when you re-view something, as in view it again with critical intent.

Anway, i don't bother with a score till it's over. I think about scores during but i never really give it any weight until it's over. Mostly because some series either drop off a cliff as they go on or massively improve.

Typically I rate after 3 episodes, which is typically when I also decide if I'm gonna watch something all the way through, and then I adjust it as needed throughout the season, with a final evaluation after I finish it.

After, while it airing or I'm even only an episode from finishing it I don't rate anything unless I drop it, it just doesn't make sense and I don't like it and I don't like when people do it either but who am I to judge them lol but then again and atst I appreciate them for doing that, they help tell if the still airing show is worth picking or not, not that I've ever picked an airing show based on ratings, tho lol

The only ever time I rated anything even before it started airing was JoJo Part 4, back then I was so fucking hyped and into JoJo like mad, funny enough I didn't watch part 4 for till like 2 years later lmao I felt out of anime as a whole and rarely watched anime at the time. Never did before or after regardless of any over the top hype.

The only other exception is One Piece, dunno when I rated but clearly years back and since it's a never ending type of an anime it's different, I guess for such extremely long anime finishing at least one arc is enough to justify rating them but probably only if they're still airing with no ending in sight I guess.

I agree with you on not rating shows before they've started. I usually give a preliminary rating after I reach episode 3 (3-episode rule) and then either drop the anime right then and there if it stinks or keep watching and update my rating once I reach the ending. With seasonals, it's pretty common for my 'preliminary rating' to end up being exactly how I feel even after finishing the anime.

if i'm binging it, then after i'm done but with seasonals, whenever i feel like it. rarely, it's after the first. sometimes, around the third or fourth and sometimes around the eighth. just up to my gut.

After it's finished. I feel like overthinking what I'm gonna rate it distracts from the actual show. And sometimes it can come down to the very last episode to decide a rating, like for example last season I was dead set on giving Witch from Mercury S2 an 8 but the finale soured my opinion on the series and I gave it a 7 instead.

I usually rate a show after finished watching it, very rarely do I rate it when I am. But when I do, it's because I really like it.

I disagree with your take though. Some anime really take slower to get to the good part, but most of the time you can judge an anime is good or not after 3 episodes. At least that's what I think. There are times I even dropped an anime after only one episode. My reasoning is that the first episode should be able to pull the viewers in and if it fails to do just that, it's not worth it.

I always decide to start rating when I finished an anime, based on both my enjoyment and the quality of the anime. A reason why I rate by the end of the anime because sometimes either good or bad endings/ climax in the anime can make changes to ratings based in my opinion.

My own personal rule is that I wait until I have fully finished an anime before rating it sometimes even waiting to give a final rating if I am between two different end results.

However, the exception I make is for long running series once I have watched a solid amount of a series and am sticking with it I will give it a rating even if it has not concluded yet or I haven't finished it. Because I feel I have seen a strong enough episode count to give it a rating but I of course will revisit it once the series has concluded and give it a final assessment that's just my method on the matter.

Anime ratings aren't supposed to be an objective thing (to me, anyways) -- they express how much I like the show compared to others I've watched.
Therefore, it's OK to rate a watching show.
But everyone views rating differently.
That said, I don't rate anime that I'm watching because I'm too lazy to change the score every episode.

Usually during, since it's a rating that encapsulates everything you've watched, meaning it should be able to change as you watch more. Plus it makes keeping track of what my initial opinions were easier, since I'm constantly changing a number by hand.
