A tragic beginning. The way they threw that woman overboard was horrifying. It's scary to think this sort of thing really happened back then.

It's back! The budget seems to be bigger than the last time around and the OP is a banger. I'm really curious about how people will react to this arc. It's going to be an interesting mixture of love and hate I bet.

I'm so happy for my man Makoto Yukimura. His finest work is getting a worthy adaptation. And yes, there are some small changes to the manga, but they are positive additions to the story.
I don't know MAPPA's commission pricing for a 2 cour anime but I'm sure it's probably in the same ballpark as what Studio Wit charged for doing season 1. The subjective increase in production quality for season 2 is almost certainly thanks to the staff working on season 2. Money doesn't make anime, people make anime. The average Japanese animater between the ages of 20 and 24 according to a survey conducted by the Japan Animation Creators Association earns 1,550,000 yen (US$14,660) per year. The whole notion that budget dictates animation quality is a dead meme.

Great reintroduction back into the series and set the tone for the rest of the season. I don't mind the story being more laid back in order to disect new and old characters after season 1's conclusion.

The MAPPA bikers intro caught me off-guard lol. Almost thought that I downloaded the wrong anime.

The OP looks great but the music choice is kinda out of place for me.

Once again, with the starting episode, we were given a grim reminder of how fucking devastating the brutalities of war can be.

I could feel Einar's helplessness and feeling of uselessness.

Damn, Thorfinn's uncle is still searching for him.

Looks like Einar has found a decently good buyer and lo and behold my boy Thorfinn also works at his farm.

Great start

It was an alright episode. It took me right out when Einar just sat there when he should have been running. OP and ED songs were not very good IMO. Otherwise a decent episode. I was never a fan of this type of animation but it does the job.

dont you guys think that the s2 is a little bit off from the main story.season 1 was more realistic but now with all these dreams it looks so unrealsitic and i cant help but think season 2 was made out of fans demand and it was never orginally planned to have a season 2.
even the intro themeof season 1 was more realistic this season 2 just has a whole different vibe from the main story i think its suitable to call this season "The farmland saga arc"

Holy shit, the animation style, soundtrack, and even narration hit the mark for this season so far. The opening few minutes gave me some legit chills.
This episode details the harsh life for Einar, especially when the vikings took over. Just another reminder that anything can happen in their world in a split moment. A really impressive start imo. Felt like a mini movie and the soundtrack is amazing.

Do you know what language they use in the beginning.... it's really give me chills....Man what a start 🔥

According to this post on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Icelandic/comments/10akfh0/short_poem_at_the_start_of_vinland_saga_season_2/
The language spoken is modern Icelandic.

I am little confused about Einar´s origin. He says that he is from England, yet he has a nordic name and so does his sister Lotta. Do you think they perhaps fleed to England as Refuges or something?

A very strong beginning to a new story that also curiously ties in the story of last season. Easily one of the best episodes of anime I've ever seen, as it burns a fire of passion within you whether or not you've seen season 1. I cannot wait to see what unfolds!

Very good start of the second season. There were emotions, action, great looking backgrounds and beautiful music tracks (including opening and ending theme).

I was reluctant to whether start this season at all, after hearing about some stuff happening in it and in the arcs that are yet to be adapted. But well, I decided to finally give it a try.

Everything was really solid, except Thorfinn's bratty mug at the end of this episode. He's the main character after all, heh. At least he appeared only for a short while. ;p Good that we could learn more about new character, Einar. He could experience the hardships and tragedies of war right away, as one of villagers.

I was curious about it as well. It was just the very first episode. Perhaps as the story progresses, we will learn more about Einar (including things you have mentioned).

As soon as I noticed the studio change from Wit to MAPPA, I knew I needed a spare seatbelt to stay strapped in for this rollercoaster ride. This was an absolutely brilliant first step to the next stage of the saga. It was incredibly grueling to watch as Einar was helplessly stripped of everything dear and reduced to the lowest form of bondage. The inhumanity & despair of slavery was put on full display and even I was beginning to wonder what the point of living would be. I already have a feeling the driving force for this season is going to be life changing.

Vinland saga is back!

We are seeing a different perspective this time around, which is fascinating.

It is disheartening to see how people were treated like slaves at the time. For years and years, people went through this living hell.

However, I was not expecting Thorfinn to end up being a slave after Askeladd died. I wonder what happened to him for him to end up like this. I don’t know, I would expect Canute or Thorkell to send him back home.

Thorfinn looks completely empty :(

I look forward to knowing more about Einar! He started off as a very weak farmer, let's see how his character will develop. Hopefully, he won't remain the way he is because it would be such a waste, given that his character has potential.

The opening was so amazing! I was actually speechless. I noticed there were some changes in it but I can't figure it out, only then did I read one of the comments in this thread did I realize that season 02 is produced by a different studio. I have no complaints with the first one but damn! MAPPA did a great job!

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

Vikings are badasses, but damn, it pisses me off when they destroy a poor village and angers me even more that they just killed a pretty girl like that. What a waste of fine sex slave meat! They haven't even screwed her yet. And they should pillage the wealthy instead. Those rich folks need to be culled, especially in the modern era.

I like the scenic view of those farmlands. If it weren't for the endless wars and incurable diseases, the simple life of a peasant in the Middle Ages would be so nice.

How many years of time skip is this? Thorfinn looks badass now, but he's as miserable as ever.

I don't remember much from the end of season 1 aside von Askeladd(?) dying, so I don't know how Thorfinn ended up on that farm. But it's always a bad sign if you watch the first episode of a show and wonder when the episode ends. Pretty weak start for a 2nd season.
