A great movie though the ending left me with questions.
Satoru clearly spared Suguru's life as we know from the first season, where Suguru was the man pulling the strings of the curses.

Was Satoru playing it both sides or did he spare him because he was his best friend? And did Yuuta find that guy accidentally in Kenya, without knowing he worked for Suguru, or was he after him?

That silent whisper of Satoru to Suguru at the end was also frustrating. We are not supposed to know what he told him apparently, but why?

In retrospect Satoru must have known in the first season that Suguru was behind everything, due to the ease he smelled him in this movie. But he did not disclose it, so Suguru remained a mystery to everyone.

However if in the first season Suguru was secretly working with Satoru he would not have tried to trap him. I am confused...

huh, why was Yuta with that guy at the end, and I wonder if we will ever find out what Gojo said to Geto or it is it just up to us to imagine? Overall liked the movie although I wasn't the biggest fan of Yuta's voice/VA. Didn't feel like it particularly suited him.

Already read the manga so was just waiting a bit to watch this, and since the new season is almost starting I thought now would be better than ever.
Honestly I wasn't too big of a fan of the manga for this, but can't deny that the animation for this adaptation is the quality you would expect of a movie.
Lets hope the next season will hype me back up for this series!

Nah, man. Are you telling me that Yuuta fighting with a huge ass monster at his back won't be a thing anymore? For real, that would be such a letdown... Rika's Curse form looked so cool and badass. Kinda reminded me of a Xenomorph for some reason.

Enjoyable movie overall. Clearly fast-paced during the first half yet outstanding in other aspects such as animation, insert-songs and choreography during the fights.
Story wasn't that engaging but I really liked all the attention Maki, Inumaki and Getou received. I loved Maki during S1 and I absolutely loved her here as well. Still not sure which one of her designs I like the most tho... 1st. Year Maki looks cool but 2nd. Year Maki looks more sober and mature. Quite the dilemma for me, huh? Anyways, at least I can confirm that she looks absolutely stunning with her hair down. Simping much? I hope yes not.

As for Yuuta, he was a nice protagonist (he even accomplished his first Black Flash while fighting Getou, which was cool asf) but I wish his relationship with Rika's Curse form would have been explored in more depth. Their romance throughout the movie felt shallow and the fact of Curse Rika acting like a yandere sure didn't help either. Not to mention the last-minute revelation with Yuuta being the one cursing Rika because he's the descendant of some random powerful sorcerer felt rather abrupt, to say the least.

But well. Other than that, it was also nice to know more about Getou's super cliche motivations as well as learning more about his methods to collect Curses. Quite charismatic villain, I must say. Really wondering if Gojou actually killed him in the end... and the Getou we saw in S1 is just someone/something else.

And on a final note, I must say I really, really appreciated all those winks to S1: Panda's transformation, Nanami's Black Flash record, the Kyoto students making an appearance, etc. Though Toudou receiving so little screen-time was kinda disappointing, not gonna lie. Especially considering S1 mentioned he did quite the number with some Special-Grade/Grade-1 Curses during this "Night Parade".

7/10 - Really looking forward to Season 2 after having watched this. It seems the first cour will be addressing Gojou and Getou's school days, which has me quite intrigued, but I also wonder if Yuuta will reappear at some point or we will have to wait for a potential third season.

P.S.: Oh shit! And how could I forget about Mei Mei absolutely kicking asses with a huge ass axe? Damn, what a woman.

Alright, after waiting almost 1.5 years to watch the prequel film right before Season 2's release, I can say that I'm hyped for more Jujutsu Kaisen stuff.

The protagonist of the prequel series, Yuta Okkotsu, isn't much like Yuji Itadora, apart from the beginning reference with his interrogation from Satoru Gojo.

Indeed, this was Jujutsu High a.k.a Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical School before Yuji's arrival, and it's nice to see Panda, Maki and Inumaki back, though them being the only students in the class, aside from the eccentric Gojo. Yuta coming in with the premonition of being a cursed child seeing his childhood friend Rika Orimoto die in a traffic accident, to then be stuck with her for his lifetime of "marriage". Gojo trying the 3 students and the transfer student on their Jujutsu training to exorcise curses, though they got too confident and got caught by a curse, which holds the children that were needed to be saved, and through Rika which he connects to her through the ring that she gave him, the curse is vanquished for good, but love is the biggest curse of them all.

The swagger of Gojo to protect Yuta if push comes to shove, and him wanting to undo the curse by transferring Rika's cursed spirit into a katana blade, it's training all the way through from the Jujutsu masters, especially Maki. Though Panda coming in with a comedy revelation on how Yuta likes boobs, it's so Panda lols. Yuta, now paired with the only grade 2 sorcerer of Inumaki, he's the cursed speech sorcerer whom he must observe, without releasing Rika, with the mission being to eradicate curses in a shopping district. And with one particular semi-first-grade curse, this isn't like any of the typical ones, and without the throat medicine, Inumaki can't work at his finest. And taking Maki's lessons into actual usage, I'd say that Yuta did a decent job with Inumaki being a tag-team, though this is also the first time that Suguru Geto makes an appearance here (with Mahito working with him in the main series).

Geto, being one of the special-grade Jujutsu sorcerers who was banished from Jujutsu High, he's the clear antagonist, whom like Gojo, has his own likeness and his own army of sorcerers. And it starts with them arriving at Jujutsu High with a declaration of war, conducting the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons upon Shinjuku and the Jujutsu's holy land of Kyoto on Christmas Eve. The thing is, the wedge between Gojo and Geto has already drawn opposite parallels on justice and righteousness, turning upon the war of good and evil. Of course, Maki as the Zen'in clan's failure, we all already know from the main series, but chronically starting with Yuta, it's just surface-level understanding. While Geto targets Jujutsu High with his army targeting both Shinjuku and Kyoto, their plan is soon figured out with Gojo rushing both Panda and Inumaki back to Jujutsu High to save both Maki and Yuta, but to no avail.

Yuta being the only Jujutsu sorcerer left to face Geto, he utilizes more than just Rika's cursed energy alone, with the one-time use of Inumaki's loudspeaker, which works the same as the real thing. Gojo going all-out with his eyes is (once again) amazing (if you see it from a prequel perspective), and MAPPA flexing hard on Yuta-Rika and Geto's battle, it's no short of impressive given the movie-quality treatment. Also, for the first time, Nanami makes his appearance feel felt, and others like Miwa, Mechamaru and Todo, they're just side cheddar in this prequel. Yuta's dedication to Rika, against Geto's Maelstrom, it's a power that is worth acquiring to change the world. But no matter their happy history together in the past, Gojo and Geto were destined to face each other, though their rivalry will be settled in the future (starting with Season 2 on the Hidden Inventory & Premature Death arcs). Turns out, the investigation on Yuta shows that he comes from one of the big sorcerer families, which apart from the direct relative relation to Gojo, the curse with Rika has finally been broken, and she fades into the limelight.

A good prequel movie that will be the last that director Park Sunghoo ever touches on the JJK series, though King Gnu's main theme song is the one I prefer over the ending theme song.

Above all, good but not great. Onwards to Season 2 from here on out...

THis gets a very solid 8/10 for me. More Gojou is always a good thing.

I also liked Yuta more than I thought I would. Maki is still a badass.....YutaxMaki is fire.

Nice primer for me heading into season 2.

It was rushed as hell. Animation-wise it was beautiful, story-wise it was trash. A lot of fights just happened off-camera, and I absolutely hate when it happens. It happened in manga, and I thought here they will finally make things right... nope. All of the villains got zero personality. Some cameo were thrown there... just because.
Movie should have been 2,5 hours long. It felt like a recap. Want to see the real parade of 100 demons? Watch Gantz: Osaka instead.

6/10, it's just okay, still better than manga, but could have been 7 or 8/10 easily.

Damn man, what a movie, I’m actually kinda mad at myself for waiting this long to watch it lol, but it did work kinda well after seeing the first arc of Season 2. First off, holy shit it was beautiful, MAPPA done an amazing job on the whole thing, the art and animation was phenomenal, they absolutely did not hold back there. And plot of the movie was really good too imo, Yuta and Rika’s story was really nice and I think it was wrapped up nicely too, and I was actually surprised Yuta didn’t die at the end because I don’t think we’ve seen him in the main show up to the point we’re at so that was nice as well. He really does have the main character vibe down too, if it wasn’t for Yuuji I would have thought he was lol.

And all the stuff with Geto here was really cool, even though I hate his ideology he is a great villain, it was truly awesome seeing him get his ass beat after he whooped the students lol. And it seemed like he died at the end there but if I’m not mistaken he’s in Season 1, I haven’t seen it since it aired so it does confuse me a little, but that’s something that can be fixed with either a rewatch or reading some posts here lol. I also want to mention the OP and ED of this movie were very good, Jujutsu also doesn’t miss when it comes to music.

And lastly, I have to dedicate a good bit of this review to Maki, because holy fuck she was beautiful in this movie, I was already a huge fan of Maki in Season 1 but this just took her to a new level, her moments with Yuta were great and really makes me wish we got to see more of their relationship, and she had so many amazing scenes. Even if I didn’t like this movie’s plot she would have carried it for me lol, she was so good here. But with that, I guess I now await Season 2 to come back, this definitely helped ignite my hype for what’s to come.

I had the pleasure of watching this movie back during its cinema release and I was in awe during the entire movie. Watching the fantastic anime in the big screen as well as the engaging plot made the experience a 10/10.

But coming back to rewatch the entire movie after watching the Season 2 + Movie recap episode was something different. Understanding Gojou’s past and the context of the story makes it all the more emotional, and I’ll just end it there.

Rika's story was so sad...I hope that after Yuta dies they can be together in the afterlife. However, I do kind of ship Maki and Yuta now. My only problem is I wanted to see Fugishiro, Itadori, and Nobara in action too! But it was fun getting to know the second years better as well.

Finally watched this after putting it off for over a year. I can imagine people may not have liked it as much previously due to Geto being an unknown then but after watching the first arc of S2, this is decent. I was hoping for a more epic confrontation b/w Gojo and Geto(I thought that's what the Shibuya Arc would be) but I guess it makes sense since nothing really lasts long in front of Gojo.

Ima start by saying that I really liked this movie. The visuals were incredible, and the characters and story were really good. Really glad that the second years were the focus characters. Loved them in the first season so it's great to see them in this film paired up with Yuta. The choreo between Maki and Yuta's sparring match was really well done. Honestly, most of the fights in this were just really well done.

Now, Rika, bro that was just straight up monkey. Like, what the fuck man. It's one thing that she was his Yuta's childhood friend, but it's another thing to have her brutally get hit by a car and die in front of him. It was also pretty monkey finding out that Yuta had some insanely powerful Jujutsu sorcerer relative and that he unknowingly bounded Rika to him. Didn't expect to get hit in the feels when watching this film I tells ya.

As for the end credit scene, I couldn't tell ya why Yuta was chilling with that one Geto goon in Kenya. Gojo seems to think it's fine so they must be friends I guess.

Solid film overall, hopefully Yuta will appear in season 2. Would love to see more of him. I'd say the same about the other second years but of course they'll be back.

I've been meaning to watch this movie for the longest time, I've had quite a hard time watching anime as I've only been reading manga but I finally watched it and I LOVED it!!!

I'll be moving onto season 2 now and then reading the manga! I love Jujutsu Kaisen, it's taken me so long to get fully into it but I finally have!

I love Yuta's character and I hope to see more of him in the future of the series

Wasn’t the best … it progresses too quickly for me to become invested in Yuta as a character; although, it’s not as bad as Itadori from the first season. I did like the small moment with Maki.

What’s up with the change in blindfold? Just have the dude wear glasses. He’d look cooler and hotter.

The villain is horrible. Way too silly and overdramatic. His motive feels stupid compared to how they established it in the second season, which was fantastic.

Great action and animation though. The one thing JJK can do consistently good has nothing to do with its writing it seems.

Gorgeous movie and the fights were all amazing per JJK standards. Loved the music especially the ED song. This is the first time I'm not mad about being spoiled about future events because I feel like it added a lot of comprehension to this movie. Wow all of the Black Flashes were hype by the way.
