just finish this #5 eps... So far I see, Fern learned that don't judge a book by its cover.. I think Stark was just lying about being scared in front of the red dragon. It was proven that since the moment the two of them looked at each other, (I think the dragon thought not to mess around) the dragon had not returned to the village. Moreover, Fern caught him red-handed while practicing splitting a mountain (maybe?) using his double-edged axe

Why is every writer in Japan convinced we really, really need a whiny male support character to break the flow? Frieren and Fern already bounced off each other wonderfully, kept the whole thing chill and contemplative, a'la Kino no Tabi.
But no, have another Zenitsu type to be the thorn in the side of yet another show. Here's hoping he doesn't speak much.

Perfect transcription of the manga. Finally we meet Stark, a young warrior who desppite suffering about his cowardy, he still has a strong will. Who knows what the meeting with Frieren and Fern will change.

I have to say, they could have done better with some graphics detail but that all I'm saying. I'm looking forward for the next episode :)

I see, so Stark really was an apprentice of Eisen. As a human and with his hairstyle, he also resembles Himmel in a way. He's no slouch when it comes to ability, his nerves just needs some steeling, no doubt this journey with Frieren will solve that.

It's just kind of interesting, I wonder what his reason is to undertake this 10 year journey. Is there friends or family he'd like to meet again in Aureole? Perhaps a new demon lord is rising to begin what their predecessor started? Not quite sure, but 10 years is a lot of time for a human, I hope he is getting something out of this like the other 2 are.

On another note, Frieren has some good luck on her side. She's taken not one, but two allies/apprentices with great potential, handed down to her from her old party. All so she could discover what she missed out on all those years ago. This journey is going to be a memorable one I feel like

Frieren and Fern continue their journey until they saw Solar Dragon with a grimoire which Fieren is interested.
They cant fight the dragon. Frieren remember Eisen talking about his apprentice named Stark at nearby village.
And thus they met Stark but he isnt the "warrior" in mind.

Going after a dragon like that is pretty foolish, but at least Frieren knew when to run away...

So far this new character, Stark, is pretty interesting. He seems to be a nice person, but a coward, very strong too as evident by his training. He pulled a complete 180 too, seems he's gonna take down this dragon.

Fern did look at Stark as if she was looking at complete trash there, not a face you want to see anyone pull.

Overall, good episode and I can't wait until next week! Still 10/10 quality.

We continue the journey with fern and frieren towards the kingdom.

We finally see our first dragon. Fern is really powerful and grown as a mage, the spells are really top notch from her, but still not enough to overcome a dragon and its difficult for frieiren too being the more experienced mage.
Also we meet our potential third person for the party a warrior stark whos also is eisens apprentice apparently and he ran away from him for some reason. Plus he shares the similar characteristic like eisen had in his earlier days of cowardice and lack of confidence. I was wondering why did the dragon spare him, maybe it can sense the potential from him and chose not to take unnecessary trouble and it became more evidently clear after we see him cleaving that mountain into a valley, credits eisens to training ofcourse, lets see if he follows eisens footsteps as well and overcome his personal issues and his belief of fighting for someone else.

p.s - ferns downlooking expression on stark was just priceless. Good episode.

The duo met Stark believing that he's a warrior ready to defeat the dragon, although in reality he is a half-coward and does not have the courage to face the beast. But Frieren sees potential in the boy, in fact it does a very powerful weapon, but he's still missing something. He reminds me of Zenitsu from Kimetsu no Yaiba but in comparison Stark is way more bearable, I can see him being a likable character.

MAL is the perfect place to shit talk about people's opinions.

The animation is stellar even for little comedic moments.

A good episode but maybe the weakest of the bunch so far. A little bit dull at times but mostly was good with Stark being introduced here, although I was never the biggest fan of him in the manga. He isn't a bad character but not one that interests or entertains me a lot. After watching 4 episodes on the trot, 1 episode does feel a bit light but the pacing was a little slow for me in the middle so I feel okay with this one alone. Production was still stellar, the memories and callbacks with Frieren in the past were highlights as usual and the immersion is still quite there. The relationship between Fern and Frieren continues to be solid and as they talked about, they've known each other for quite some time now and will only be spending more and more time with each other on this lengthy adventure.

@animejas I do feel it's a bit early to judge for me, but his design and general demeanor feel a little out of the ordinary compared to the other characters. He's also the first character to break the seriousness with these comedic moments, kind of the same as I felt with Zenitsu, but he was far more annoying and took up 4 episodes almost all for himself. That's why I feel like I should give stark more of a chance to grow with the plot. So far so good.

Stark looks to be an interesting character. he will probably be a good foil for Fern and Frieren. Overtime it wouldnt surprise me if he becomes a kind of father figure to Frieren lmao.

I don't know why, but the einsam, which means lonely in German, remind me of another monster or creature that I have seen before, but I can't remember the name right now, anyway, it shows that with the passage of time Fern became very more powerful, before it could barely defend itself in conditions, and now in 5 seconds it throws a colossal genkidama at you, although that does not take away the fact that at minute 12:45 Freiren said "Soldier that starts, he is useful for another war" Seeing that the attack on the dragon did not harm him, we have to wait until the following week and see Stark's resolution so that he can show Fern that in reality he is not a fake.

Stark can probably hold off the dragon for a while but preconceptions about the strength and mystique of a dragon probably hold him back from using his full power. I think he might also bring out other sides of Fern so that's something to look forward to.

After the investigation into those phantoms it seems we got an introduction to a new character that will be joining Frieren and Fern on their journey, Stark.
They were lacking a frontline warrior so it makes sense that's what Frieren would go for, but him also being a student of Eisen means you already know he'll be capable.
Proven when Fern seeing him cutting into that cliff with ease.
The next test looks like it'll be how they can handle this dragon.
