This episode premiere was actually kinda intense...a mix of science and magic together in a fictional world.

If anything, they made an impact from the first half of the episode at least. There seems to be a lot of lore too relating to their technology, world, etc. Will probably get more complex later on. Chloe deserves to be treated better. This anime seems to a darker side and Adonis is also victim too.

There's also some war themes but man, the mood of this anime so far is dark.

Mangaka yoruhashi's work is dark and is like the Grimoire of Zero's sequel work of witch hunts.

In a world where God and witches are created, but that the world has no need for the latter, both the ice witch Chloe Morgan and her apprentice Adonis are on the run to find a country who can accept witches, except this Redia Empire where witch hunts are rampant, and the 23rd Emperor Goethe will not stand for anything less than a successful capture. Case in point, the Ice Witch Chloe Morgan with her assistant Adonis, but that his magic is inadequate in power, and she knows it best because he wants to protect her.

The human society, at the cost of the Empire's industrial revolution of Gear Exapnsion like smartphones and such, declared witches as enemies of humanity, which no thanks to the teleportation of both Chloe and Adonis, landing at where Emperor Goethe wants them to be, in an enclosed trap where even witchcraft magic is no match for the scientific industrialization. Making a mockery out of Chloe to spare Adonis's life where she found him, the latter is overly hating the fact that his magic is not doing anything to save her, and the ice witch willingly having to sacrifice her life so that he could live, it was the worst of massacres, and that would contribute to Adonis's hatred upon humanity.

10 years later, in Redia Empire, now known as New Nightmare, prisoner girl Doroka finds herself locked up, though she's optimistic about her hopes of getting out alive. With the swap from her friend Anna, Doroka encounters the worst of humanity in a kingdom that gleams all about their industrial revolution and makes an escape for everyone out of the prison. And out from an enclosed case comes a person trapped there for all his life, who might he be?

This is the adaptation of the manga's Chapters 1 and 2, but it's alrady shown potential for an unapologetically dark and violent show.

That was infuriating. Like holy shit man pissed me off so much. Knew Chloes was gonna die but that was too much. Ungrateful people biting the hand that fed them and it led to what? War among themselves. Get eradicated, deserves it.

On the bright side, our hero is not ridiculously overpowered like dozens of anime out there. On the dark side, ironically this is the kind of situation that superstrong hero is needed, and there's none.

It looks simple at first, like the war between human and witch, but I bet it's actually one of the (evil) witch that's behind technological progression and control humanity from behind. I suspect the woman that stand near the emperor to be one. Don't know the real motive yet. Maybe the villain want to be the only witch in the world so it use human to eradicate other witch, maybe the villain truly hate humanity so it trick human into eradicate witch, thus leading the world into chaos.

Not bad for a 1st ep. Very cool adaption, so far.
The lightheartedness is skillfully balanced with the terribly gruesome nature of so many elements. Like others, I wonder how graphic the violence will be, we'll see!

I expected a better directing in the first half but this is ok too I guess and what's up with that grainy filter, that was just unnecessary.

Chloe's voice is not what I had in mind before but it sure fits her, especially with the cute meme faces she makes (made).

Best "so bad that it's good" comedy of the season. I laughed so hard during the first episode cuz all of the 24 minutes are filled with caricature villains, laughably bad drama and random jokes mixed with gore and boobs. 10/10, peak fiction, hope that the next 11 episodes won't disappoint me.

Aye, the “heavy” stuff mix with plenty of lols, probably the one of the darkest series this season, hopeful for more dark gore and pink humor.

I hear you, Adonis. Delete all humans! Save the witch waifus! It's like, seriously, these humans are just a mess. I guess they're giving our MC something to channel his anger towards.

Alright, as grim as that whole slave pen scene was, Doroka trying to pull off her best Slaver Creep impression was actually kind of comical. Now that Adonis is awake, I'm eager to witness what a decade of smoldering fury looks like. The human race is in trouble, folks!

A solid premiere episode thus far. I'm genuinely excited to see how this story unfolds. A well-executed revenge plot always hits the spot.

During the emperor's speech I just kept saying "Ok, but why do you have to kill them all?" after each of his proclamations of no longer needing them and being able to support themselves. It's such a strange thing to say "They helped us for as long as we can remember, but now we are stronger... so let's kill them all."

Also, a bit of a theory, but I suspect the red haired lady with the emperor is a witch. A corrupt witch that warped the minds of these humans (or emperor specifically) and used them for their technology to take out the competition. Or heck, maybe the technology was developed with that witches power and she was always running things behind the scenes since the beginning.

"Voice authenticated" lol

Chloe's execution was fucked up. She got the Bellemere treatment. One Piece fans know.

This series is trying hard to get you riled up like many other revenge stories do, but it was an enjoyable start and I like the setting . Sci-fi mixed with magic elements is cool.

Animation sometimes looked off to me and some things were kinda hard too take seriously like the fact that you can open all cells just by telling the phone to do it(although it was funny when she was imitating the voice) but this still hooked me. Chloe execution was brutal, kinda saw it coming but man why did they have to kill her off so fast already, I liked her. Cool setting and the fridays are just looking better and better.

I'm not really surprised that the masses aren't super high on this, but I personally like this way more than Ragna Crimson which is hovering above 7.8. The Story and Art are so much better in Kingoms of Ruin in my eyes. I look forward to him eventually getting that sweet revenge (I hope).

Very cool first episode. Hadn’t heard of this series at all coming into this but I loved the premiere. Interesting world, good art and another dark fantasy setting. I like the mix of modern science and a fantastical magical setting.

Episode flew by. Seems like we were just getting introduced to Adonis and Chloe, then the teleportation thing happened, OP plays and boom it’s over.

Chloe.. ๐Ÿ˜ข she deserved so much better, especially after helping the humans so much in the past. But was ripping her shirt off for the world to see before killing her by firing squad necessary? Like normally idc cause it’s fiction, but that shit made me furious. Fuck the human king, and fuck his subjects for applauding that type of brutality.

Can’t wait to see Adonis take his revenge on this kingdom. I want to see some edgy no holds barred kingdom wrecking here.

Doroka looks like she’ll be a good waifu candidate and I’m excited to see where this goes.

Chloe deserved better

From the beggining to the OP all the way to the ending.

The plot, the animation, the reactions of Adonis and even the humans, the feelings it trasnmited, this rage growing inside of me everything was perfectly calculated.

Deserves to be worldwine known.

why is it so hard to conceive a dystopian future plot that actually makes sense? there has to be a sense of rationality, a way justify the craziness by having a different sense of values. Something that even if I can't agree with it, I can at least understand (like communism).

I don't know if it was laid out better in the source material, but why, if the apparent religion clearly states that the witches are friendly and nurturing towards humans, did they turn against them so brutally?

Was there widespread abuse from the part of the witches? Was it just simply motivated by raw human greed and avarice? Whatever the case, 15 minutes of stale goofy comedy followed by a blatant blood boiler is no way to open up a good story.

And crucially, if they had tech to nullify magic, what need was there to kill them? The only thing I know, is that I didn't laugh, and on the contrary, I'm now in a pissing mood.

Fuck crossfire btw. Those bullets shreded through a woman and vanished. Another reason for me to dislike this shit.

I’m intrigued by the world building so far. There are some things I’m giving a suspense of disbelief about (advanced sci-fi setting but all the safety locks are locked behind a voice command, one of the weakest authentication processes?), but I’m hoping the anime will develop an interesting story with a good bit of nuance as to why the humans felt like they had to eradicate the witches.

With this being both an anime and a revenge story(?), I do feel that its execution will either be very satisfying or downright awful. I thought the atmosphere for this episode was great, so I’m hoping this doesn’t go down the lazy “humans and technology are bad” route where the setting just becomes needlessly nihilistic without adding anything meaningful.

The anime art work was spot on,
but as expected they reduced the gore by a lot (compared to the manga), and pretty much skipped most of the nudity and other cruel torture scenes.

The voice acting choices were great match for the characters.
Music choices were adequate, it matches the theme of the anime.

Wow, it's trash. Absolute trash. And the OP makes it very clear that the author is just going to throw whatever random plot element or trope they think is cool at the wall regardless of how inconsistent it makes the setting.

I think the worst part is that as far as we know the emperor didn't even frame witches with any crime or anything. The populace are just 100% willing to make a 180 heel turn into trash cartoon villains. That execution scene was way too over the top, probably worse then anything else I've seen this season. Nothing but shock value.
