I won't say animation was bad but I was still kind of dissatisfied with it.

Anyway it was another great episode.
Every episodes just exceeds my expectations again and again.

Seeing Maru with black hair made me realise that the black-haired girl in the swimming suit seen in the last few seconds of ED might be Maru's sister, she could be one of the kids from the new batch.

Lmao, the first 4 mins of episode caught me off guard.
I was like wth is going on, am I really watching the same show?
Then i notice part of the episode is directed by Trigger.

It's sad that the Trigger part is way inferior than the rest of the episode
The artstyle is out of place, the animation is lacking and pacing is weird lolz
Glad it's not the whole episode directed by Trigger.
Trigger didnt direct part of the episode. An animator/director from trigger directed the whole episode (and it was all done at prod ig despite that). I get the confusion tho, the episode definitely feels like it has 2 different styles as it goes on.

The direction was clearly different from the other episodes, and I must say the tone whiplash really affected what could've been a really touching storyline, like we had in episode 8.

Bad drawing and animation? I didn't notice any of that tbh. Another great episode. Jugo turns out to be a fucking man-eater. I have to rewatch the ending sequence because I didn't catch who Juuichi killed. This anime keeps teasing me with these mini fake-outs. How many times has Kiruko almost died now? Gets me every time as well even when I know she's not going to die.

We got some new blood in the facility and I wonder how many of these children will become parents like Tokio.

I like Studio Trigger's art style with this director but it doesn't really fit the tone of the show compared to the previous art style, but still interesting to see it this way I guess. Anyway the baby/little boy being the one to have the ice abilities wasn't something I expected, pretty creepy overall, and lol Maru and Kiruko being stuck with the car not working xD And for the experiment orphan part they're taking care of Tokio's pregnancy while new children are arriving, hmm.

Hmmm, this episode was really off-putting for me.
While I do appreciate the different styles and takes within this episode, some parts felt like a comic strip or out of place.
But then again, we got really good parts like with the Hiruko where it fits the picture again.

Oof snitches get stitches. Idk though, Juuichi probably should have tried to talk it out with snitch-san instead of going straight murder route. It probably would have been easier to raise that kid in a stable community than on the road by himself.

Off topic but I'm starting to wonder if Kiruko still views their self as a male. They were worried trap-Maru was prettier after all. It's little things like this where you realize the lines are being blurred subtly. I wonder if Kiruko already started viewing Maru as the opposite sex now. Before they were saying they were both guys but is it still the same? Hm something to think about

Interesting choice to have several different styles in 1 episode for some reason. Kind of weird why they'd do it so randomly, but can't say it was bad.

Started off as such a funny episode and ended up like that, another great episode. I don't know if it's just me or Kiruko gets prettier every episode.

It's not bad animation and art. This is just an artistic choice (I didn't like it at all - you either do a whole series like this or not, just stick to one visual direction style). It wasn't that bad. But the direction was a mess. Chaotic, terrible packing and many scenes made no sense. I was really surprised that everything that was masterfully crafted over previous episodes (atmosphere, direction style, characterization) dropped this hard in one ep for the sake of making it "blockbuster-like".
But now, knowing what happened, I'm not surprised.
And btw, this is one of the reasons why I absolutely hate series and movies made by Trigger.

Guys the issue is NOT whether u like the different artstyle used in this episode or not.Real issue is that the artstyle used is quite drastically different from original artstyle.Animation can be experimental as in great animation or avg animation but Artstyle CANNOT be drastically changed for one episode. It breaks the consistency and immersion of characters. I am surprised that the Chief director of this anime allowed such drastic change by episode director.

This episode was wild, really a great episode, with a big plot at the ending and an art direction really new to this anime, that felt odd at the start, but as the episode followed, it became really interesting and fit very well. This episode just left me with a question: why the baby is like that? How does it connect with the Hiruko? Besides that, everything was well explained and it was a really touching episode, great!

I was like, see, even in this chaotic world happy endings do exi.. oh nevermind.

Considering the different style, I understand a different director wanting to leave their mark but still, I'm a sucker for consistency.

So, Dr. Usami said when the infected people die they turn into man-eaters. Was Jugo's mother one of the facility's children? Did her corpse turn into the ice spider? That would explain how Jugo inherited the ice ability.

The drastic change in animation style and direction was jarring for sure, but everything looked so pretty and expressive that I don't really care. Still felt like the same show, just more exaggerated visually. Kinda want to say this was one of my favorite episodes honestly.

The dead guy's face changing was creepy as hell. Loved the vibe of the ending.

Just because an art director or animator is a big name doesn’t mean everything they do is beyond criticism and after seeing a comment essentially saying “casuals don’t get it brooo” with the animation this ep, I’d like to weigh in. If there wasn’t some big name attached to the episode a lot of people defending this animation would be criticizing the slideshow.

Kind of a mixed bag for me on this episode.

Even though the story and revelations truly carried over this episode (specially the shift in Juichi's character) I feel that the artistic choices for this one was just kind of a swing and miss for me. Got nothing against Ikarashi's style, but again, it's just a particular style and imho it feels a bit out of place on a grittier story (sure I'm not against some banter and slapstick humor here and there to lighten up the mood, but I personally think this is too much for a single episode).

I am a little confused on this too, since if the kid disappeared from the group to go off to the building it would probably be noticed. I am assuming that the kid can directly manifest the powers as seen in the episode, but can also send out a familiar or duplicate somehow, kind of like how the hologram man-easter could create multiples? Or perhaps there was a 2nd child born (female + twin) and the dad wasn't aware because it was taken away to join the female oppressor group? Man idk but I hope the anime explores this a little more so I can stop theorizing lol.
I also think that the 2 mothers are originally from the children's facility from the older group, maybe the 2 girls that were shown kissing before (was it Iwa and Nanaki?).
Just to add this comment in general for the entire discussion here, but I am surprised that so many people did not enjoy the change in animations. I really enjoyed it, and loved the sharp style used in a lot of the serious/thrilling scenes.

I'm a bit surprised to see comments like this one because I personally loved the style and animation in this episode, for both the more intense scenes with the Kiruko but also the goofy facial expressions in the car and other comical scenes.
Reading that Kei Ikarashi from Studio Trigger worked on this ep made a lot of sense and I personally thought it was one of the best episodes so far and had to check if more people were praising it, but seems like there were a lot of mixed opinions on this one.

Overall I feel like this show really delivers on both suspense, humor, plot and quality, and I'm very excited to see how this season ends.

Pretty good episode. I don't get why people are complaining about art, still looked great imo just with more cartoony expressions in some parts. Also wasn't sure about why they were being frozen in the first scene when it's the baby that freezes people. The baby wasn't near the abandoned building right, wasn't it back at the dudes' base at that point? Was the sphere attack a different attack than the ice attack? idk ¯\_ (ใƒ„)_/¯

it really didn't. The animation was just more stylized this episode, it looked really good to me, the comedy bits had exagerated animation which made it stand out more, and the first 'freezing scene' looked absolutely phenomenal. This was definitely the best animated episode yet imo

But there is no way people think the animation quality dropped for this episode when it was better than average.
you know, casual watchers don't know who Ikarashi is and how he works; we can't blame them for being ignorant
They're a simple type of people.

But seriously, I enjoyed this episode. What we know of the School, too, makes me wonder if post-Collapse a group splintered off to rebuild, or if the PBF was simply a coincidental thing. I'd argue the latter if only because nothing about Jyuichi's flashbacks implies he even knew of the School. Still, pretty good episode.

Also, Maru realizing he can sense the Hiruko is kind of scary.

Let me be the party pooper. The animation/art in this episode sucked. It was much too much and way overused throughout the episode, willy-nilly shifting between a dozen different styles for no good reason and constantly going hot/cold (switching between serious and overcooked goofy) ... yea, and sometimes it just DID look like ass. And it was sooo fucking random and didn't fit the show (which already had established a style that just worked great with it). You do not just go artsy fartsy when you already have something that works so well. We have a word for artists doing that, it's called masturbation. So yea, fuck the hype, fuck you whoever is responsible, this was bad, it sucked and almost destroyed an otherwise perfectly fine episode.

Strange & a little bit bizarre episode (At least because of change of key animator), but in terms of plot, narrative design, small details & more - it was pretty good. But change of animation, colour palette, character detailing & facial expressions - I'm sorry guys, but it doesn't fits the aesthetics of Heavenly Delusion.
Overall - 7.5/10 (More like 7)
