CG feels different watching this just after NieR first epi. It is my first time seeing real humans animated by Orange. Normally I am not impressed by CG use in shows but this is really fantastic.

I prefer the 98 deserts though.

Alot of people are quick to say the character design isnt the same and the cgi isnt good. Alot of people criticize things that arent really reasonable. Cgi gets hate in general but this looks pretty damn good but ofc people gonna hate. And the new character designs look good as well just give you some time to get used to it. Either way critics will say cgi is bad and character design isnt good but i enjoy it and will enjoy this piece of art. I just wish people would understand that all cgi isnt bad. Personally Episode 1 is a 9/10 great start.

CGI was even worse than I expected from the trailer. The reporter girl being all embarrassed when praised looked really out of place in CGI. It improved by the end though, so we'll see how it goes next time. The music, humour, story, shot selection and literally everything else being good made up for it.
"The f**ker who goes round beating people to a pulp. He thinks it'll never happen to himself. But there's gonna be a day when the f**ker gets f**king beaten to a pulp too. But that day's f**king today and the guy doing the beating is a f**king c**t." - Sang-hoon, Breathless (2009)

"BOO! Did I scare you, anime fans? I'm CGI!"

Anime fans have been practically programmed at this point to automatically disregard anything that's CGI as trash, so obviously Trigun's all-CGI return will be controversial for some, but the CGI looks fine bruh. People over-exaggerate and act like every CGI anime (or even 2D anime that use CGI for certain moments, like Chainsaw Man) is the next coming of Hand Shakers or Ex-Arm.

Anyway, a pretty good start for Trigun and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

It's a foot in the door kind of act. You accept one "not so bad thing" and it keeps getting progressively worse. People are not against CGI as much as they are against lazy bad looking CGI. This one is not as bad as ex-arm, but it's an easy tell. Characters are lacking expressions, movement is stiff, etc. Problem is, it's a cheap way to cash in on old feelings as they are redoing, or adapting or whatever this is, old show which has many fans. Had this been a new anime all together, I'd be fine with this CGI. But it's not.

It's also CGI that's made to look hand drawn, which makes it even worse because they are not going full on CGI because that would require a lot of details and work, but they are not going full hand drawn animation because that would require talent and money. So they are cheeping out while riding emotions of old and people keep justifying this with excuses such as yours.

Here you go sir. You’ll need it

You know, apart from them completely erasing Milly from the story (so far..) this reboot is okay for now, not a bad start for ep 1 but I just can't get used to these character designs, they are absolutely terrible. It's a pity because otherwise the CG isn't that horrid to make me puke. lol

Well, we all know 3D animation is the cheapest thing to ever happen, and this is no exception. Its a shame that such a great, classic anime was treated like this. No textures, shiny skin, uncontrolled lighting, shadows that dont make any sense, super clean/perfect visuals make it seem too unreal for the dirty, dusty, run down environment that this anime is set in. The movement is janky, eyes dont move at the same speed, hair is mostly static... I could make this go one forever.... I loved this anime as a kid, and Im sure the story for this one is much better, so I hate they chose a 3D animation group for this beloved anime. I will watch it regardless, but man... What a slap in the prostate.

The animation style bothers me to no end. The original anime was so good for it's time. It's hard to watch this in all 3DCGI.

I'm going to give this a go anyway as the story (I am watching it now at 14:06 so far) is pretty good.
Maybe it's the way the frame rate looks but this is gonna be hard. The backgrounds are good though.

😑

I'll be frank and say Trigun was kinda rough around the edges even for '98 but this? This is a travesty.

Not going to put it down - yet. I'll wait for a few more episodes before having any legitimate input. I will say, however, that I am not a fan of Vash's new hairstyle and Meryl is 'too' cutesy for my taste.

Well, we'll see how it goes.

First episode was good up to the point the police are swindled into preforming some duel and then the leader goes bonkers and shoots a cluster bomb, then the whole world acts like gravity has a pause button when all the cluster bombs are falling, while he and everyone have there few moments under the sun looking for a bullet and Vash acting like an incompetent idiot who can't even realize through weight his gun is not loaded just for some poor attempt at ridiculous comedy the original was known for.
It looked fairly decent up to that point.

But it looks like it's just going to be a cheap imitation and over the top flashy horseshit with slightly more CGI capability & improved art.
But improved art will only get them so far.

I’m kinda confused is this a remake or what ?
Cause i don’t see the big girl anywhere!? Not that i’m bothered, but kinda need some info about changes and what this anime is done and will be continuing to do.

First episode looked dope to me. Camera shots and that smooth 3DCG animation. That rush piano symphony gave me chills.

NGL as an old and huge fan of the OG source manga and anime, this was WAY better than I was expecting. Also did animators at Orange got all an upgrade to RTX 4090? Because this look incredible and is so much more fluid than the terrible 20-ish fps from Beastars. The jaw-drop on the last part on the cliff, in 2 years then went from "PowerPoint: The Animation" to 2017+ level of Pixar animation!

Let's see what they will do with the story and the world tho...

That was actually...pretty good ?
The CG doesn't really convey properly the overall old and dirty world and it's indeed a whole reimagination of the series but it indeed feels like Trigun through and through, i had my smile when Vash appeared and really had fun during the whole fight. Really felt i was indeed watching Trigun, and that's everything i needed.

Well seeing the pacing it'll probably be a 13-episodes thing tho.

I didn't really feel much of anything watching it however it's still a very good first episode as there's intrigue to see more from the story and the characters. The CGI didn't really enhance the story in any way but also wasn't on the nose aside from the child models in the flashback. Looks like it'll be a very solid show if this is the average quality we're going to get for every episode. Interested in seeing if it gets any standout episodes.

WE HAVE BEEN TROLLED! This is not Trigun, it's a ripoff imposter masquerading as Trigun. They replaced Milly with Robert De "fucking" Niro. Get out of here with that crap, Meryl was one of the best characters. Thanks for ruining the memory of one of my top 10 anime with this patronizing garbage for people who never saw it, while trolling me into believing the rest of the manga was about to get adapted! Get Ripped studio Orange, you are more traitorous than Jeremiah Gottwald from Code Geass.

Good observation there, Vash would certainly have known how many bullets were in his gun by weight. This is what happens when people who don't have the character living inside them try to write their story. They should have just faithfully adapted the narrative and art style of the manga, that's what we all wanted.

In the first anime we had the EXACT SAME JOKE about him being out of bullets in the first episode too. And Trigun always had these ridiculous shootouts.

Reading this thread is solid proof that no matter how high quality CGI can be, anime fans will still lose their shit over it.

I pity anyone who slanders Studio Orange.

Anyways, solid start to the episode. I didn't expect Million Knives to be introduced so early but I'll roll with this retelling of the story. I love how expressive the characters are, thats my favourite part of the animation. Had a little giggle when Vash had no bullets to use.

why would you duel a criminal when you caught him?
why would you then blast everything around you with witnesses?

That was amazing tbh, i had the highest expectations on this Trigun anime spin off cause of the unique animation, in this case, the really good use of CGI, it was outstanding in every aspect but i love the amazing CGI, to put you in context, Orange is an Animation Studio which particularly uses CGI instead of 2D animation, and it works amazingly well. Imo, i would definitely say out there Orange is the best cgi animation studio.

So far so good! I disagree with the people complaining about the CGI. This isn't Berserk, and all you purists can go watch the original if you prefer. Now if you were to say that Meryl acts like a caricature of her original self, or that replacing Milly with some old Madao is a shall we say, interesting choice, then I could agree with you. Still loving this since it's lots of fun in the spirit of the source material.

So here's the problem with the CGI. I haven't seen this brought up in the chat, so correct me if I'm wrong.

The problem is the framerate. Buttery smooth CGI backgrounds and ship models at 45-60 fps. Crisp character animation and models, but AT A G-DAMN STUPID HORRIBLE 20-25 FPS. Not only that, but there's inconsistent framerates even in the character animations. In the scene at the water PLANT, Meryl's animation when she jumps behind her senpai runs at least 40-50 fps. So this is why we hate this new type of CGI anime: they can crank it when wanted for background and action sets, but they need to keep it cranked above 30-45 even when it's "low rendering priority" AKA just dialog scenes.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to it, but the FPS issues drive me up the wall to where I can't fully enjoy it.

From what I think there is a lot of potential in the story, that is why I will continue to watch it since its animation is not that I disliked it but it is a bit strange because there are different levels of frames between scenes, anyway, a good first episode

The writing for this episode was so bad. The characters don’t feel like themselves. They revealed everything so quickly in this first episode instead of having it be more of a slow burn. I preferred the way the original story did it where you didn’t know they were on an alien planet right away, that you didn’t learn that he had a robotic arm until later as a plot point, and no one praised him as a town hero until after you see him save a town. I liked Meryl being very confident and sure of herself and hot headed and taking charge of things. Don’t like how she is portrayed here. I did not like this. I wish they did this show better.
