The 13th and final episode of the Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen (Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War) television anime announced its second cours on Tuesday, subtitled Ketsubetsu-tan (The Separation), revealing an announcement promo. The second part is set to premiere in July 2023 on TV Tokyo.

The first part, produced by Pierrot, began airing on October 11. Hulu simulcast the anime in the U.S and subsequently streamed an English dub. Disney+ streamed the anime internationally, excluding Asia. The anime series will air in four split cours.

Sennen Kessen-hen (Thousand-Year Blood War) adapts the final arc of Tite Kubo's Bleach manga, which spans from the 55th to the 74th volume. Prior to the series' serialization, Kubo published a pilot chapter in December 2000. The action adventure manga debuted in Weekly Shounen Jump in August 2001. After a 15-year serialization, Kubo ended the series in August 2016. Shueisha published the 74th and final volume in November that year.

VIZ Media acquired the series' master license in March 2006 and serialized the manga in English in its print edition of Shounen Jump magazine between November 2007 and March 2012. The manga concurrently moved to the Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha digital anthology in January 2012. The company published the 74th and final volume in October 2018 and released the 26th home video installment of the anime in September 2015.

The first television anime by Pierrot began airing in Fall 2004 and ended with 366 episodes in Winter 2012, covering the first 54 volumes. The manga also inspired four anime films in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 December.

Synopsis
Substitute Soul Reaper Ichigo Kurosaki spends his days fighting against Hollows, dangerous evil spirits that threaten Karakura Town. Ichigo carries out his quest with his closest allies: Orihime Inoue, his childhood friend with a talent for healing; Yasutora Sado, his high school classmate with superhuman strength; and Uryuu Ishida, Ichigo's Quincy rival.

Ichigo's vigilante routine is disrupted by the sudden appearance of Asguiaro Ebern, a dangerous Arrancar who heralds the return of Yhwach, an ancient Quincy king. Yhwach seeks to reignite the historic blood feud between Soul Reaper and Quincy, and he sets his sights on erasing both the human world and the Soul Society for good.

Yhwach launches a two-pronged invasion into both the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, the home of Hollows and Arrancar. In retaliation, Ichigo and his friends must fight alongside old allies and enemies alike to end Yhwach's campaign of carnage before the world itself comes to an end. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

6 month break and not like Demon Slayer which have 1 year breaks means that the production schedule will be more tight so expect some quality drops here and there

How was the first season overall received by the fans of the manga and anime only alike?

Awesome, summer 2023 is getting even better.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Man I was hoping for only a 3 month break but 6 month is still bearable.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

So many splitted cours this time. Why they don't name it new seasons instead?

Having to wait half a year is annoying, but at least it won't be a year-long break like I feared.

They use the terms based on production: all seasons were planned at once - split-cour.  Next season was greenlit later - new season. You can call it as you wish.

Are you saying that split-cours are not so much split cours, but two seasons formally glued together?

Guess they'll extend this to late 2024 at this rate.. though nothing to stress about if things remain the way they were in this cour.

You can say so. Split-cour means production comitee paid for 26 eps, for example, but decided to air it not at once but as 13+13 with a few months brake. While if they just planned 13, but decided to produce more later because it was sucessful (even if decigion was made before the end of airing), it is a new season for them. For us there is no difference besides the fact that split-cours are announced beforehand often.

The new form of series submission depresses me, but remembering the fillers of the first Bleach, I'd rather wait for the canon.
May be some anime?

July 2023....

Well this is for the best.

Still better than having unnecessary fillers and visual quality drop.

You know what, if they keep the quality up, I can deal with six month breaks.

Yes, you may say that. Split-cour, for example, denotes that a production committee paid for 26 episodes but decided to air them over 13+13 with a brief intermission. Even though it is a new season for them, if they only meant 13 but then decided to make more since it was popular (even if the decision was made before the conclusion of broadcasting) as seen on contador de palabars There is no difference for us other than the fact that split-cours are commonly promoted beforehand.

This isn't MAPPA. On the contrary, there are rumours of upcoming improvements in quality, if that's even possible.

So, nowadays Code Geass would also be called split-cour, because it was originally one anime with 50 episodes?

its for the best, if we were living in 2007 again, you can expect a two cour filler series airing right now

Not really, actually. If I remeber right, while it had 50 eps worth of the story, producers only allowed 255 initially as they did not believe it will be sucessful. Sans the season 1 ending. THey only grenlit the S2  after it's commercial success (disks came out before the season ended after all).

That's why I'm asking. G-Witch's stuff has already named cours as different seasons for western viewers.

I mean its just different name and measurement but works the same as season.. So whether Bleach is split in cours or seasons it doesnt really matter.. Cour is just a special name..
