since there was a topic like this a week ago:
· Story and script: 5
I care about the story, but I've seen so many that everything feels like the same plot points shuffled and recycled endlessly. I will always appreciate great writing, but if I were to rate anime based on it, I'd have given 3/10 to most I've seen. as long as there aren't any logical fallacies I'm fine.
· Beginning: 4
I wanted to say this one is important to me, because a boring start fails to grab my attention. however I always watch 4 episodes before dropping a show. it's a habit I picked up because of lightnovel adaptations. the 4th episode is usually where the first arc ends so it gives you a good idea what to expect in the future.
· The end: 8
this is where most anime fails me. I'm willing to put up with a lot, thinking the end will justify the means. too bad most anime never heard of closure.
· Characters: 6
most characters don't resonate with me, they're just archetypes and stop there with nothing else going on for them. I don't ever selfinsert, and blank main characters are garbage tier. I feel the same way about characters as the story, I would've stopped watching anime a decade ago if I were looking for great characters. they should be likeable at least though.
· Direction (shots, tone, pacing): 6
unlike the beginning, this one can be felt all throughout the runtime. I didn't want to give this one much importance, but then I remembered the Jo-ha-kyū "beginning, break, rapid" story structure which I just can't deal with. plus I enjoy interesting shots which is why anno's directing is appealing to me.
· Art (color, drawing, style): 7
art is very important to me, I'm a visual person. I want things to look cool, hot and interesting. the reason I never picked up sao is because it looks bland as hell. it's so plain it hurts. probably fits the generic mmo theme but I can't be assed to stare at that for 5 minutes.
· Animation: 8
no1. reason I puke all over the screen. I'd read manga or books if I didn't want to see things move. yet most anime are barely acceptable quantity over quality stuff nowadays. I know it's an immense workload, I know it's a hard job. have some dignity and pride in your work. I watch anime because amazing animators exist.
· Sound (ost, seiyuus, op/ed): 3
it's there. I don't care. the VAs do a decent enough job in almost all cases that it's not distracting. same with soundtracks, it's rare to hear something interesting that sticks with me. eds are 99% slow and put me to sleep. current year ops are disgusting. I hope anime will grow out of this pop-club-rap period soon with the wohoos and yeaaaahs.
· Enjoyment: 6
I'm fully capable of watching things that weren't aimed at me. personal enjoyment isn't that important for me, I don't expect to be pandered to. though for a 9/10 and 10/10 show it's an absolute must in my book. I can't just call anything a favorite.
the points might be off but I hope the explanation makes sense. |
