The heated finale doubles match continue with Tomari's Shiryu Tonozaki and Azuma vs. Sunlight Beverage's Tatsuru and Mikoto...

...and more of Azuma and Mikoto's backstory surfaces as the prodigy and commoner, only to fuel and reignite the grievances that the former had, which the latter preceded to play badly on purpose, as if he couldn't forget the sins of his past. That's Tomari's win on the 1st set of 3. A change in tactics which saw Tatsuru the Badaryman take the front attack and win some points back, as is Mikoto's reason to fight back with Azuma's old habits. That's Sunlight Beverage's win on the 2nd set of 3.

The final set of 3 doubles game...and stakes are high between the 4 players to inch win after win closer to match point. And as much as Mikoto fears for his past returning, Tatsuru gave Mikoto the jumping push to win their game and match 7-21, 21-19, 21-19.

The game is done, and the usual salaryman night celebration goes on. While Azuma gets his personality boost from his partner Shiryu, once again Mikoto is forced by Badaryman to be drunk, but he let his heart out on abandoning Azuma at his worst, but yet thank him for the old times of friendship.

Some good character development there.

Very nice match.

That jump scene was so cool. Good job, Mikoto! You did it! :)

Love this episode, I love that all sports anime characteristics that happen in school level are still happen in salaryman's level too. They're hot blood (emphasize "hot), they're yelling, they fight, they bond, they're shippable. With only few differences, first is the ability to drink alcohol, which I don't think of it as an advantage over school level despite this episode seem to solve the traumatic problem with alcohol confession. Second, age gap is more visible, our protagonist is only 19 turns 20 while his partner is 32! A decade of age gap can't happen in school level, and the end credit scene is a signal of subvert childhood friend, when you think Mikoto and Azuma was a perfect couple because they're childhood friend, but Mikoto was actually met Miyazumi much earlier than Azuma. This subvert is usually used in romantic story so it's nice to see it here.

And I smell a jealousy from the lion guy, Shiryu, which is Azuma's current partner. Don't worry Shiryu, Azuma won't comeback to his ex because his ex already has a new boyfriend. So Shiryu, win over Azuma with your muscle!

Probably this show at its best. Cliché, but solid. Haikyuu-like match with a climatic rally at the end and a satisfying ending to the arc between the two. I still find the characters bland, but it it fills that sports anime void for me.

Mikoto and Tatsu were great, managing to win the match, and managed to figure out how to get Mikoto to jump~!

Drunk Mikoto is always a sight to see, it's nice he managed to convey his feelings to Azuma, even if he will forget it

The after credits scene is sweet, I adore their dynamic

I think I’m more stern than the average watcher, but I think it’s worth a watch if you like sports anime.

I have it a low 6/10 and I would probably consider it the closest to gem of the season. Either this or Police in a Pod.

Glad we got to see Azuma's side of the story and how he views it as his fault. Constantly being overshadowed by Mikoto and feeling like a burden caused him to overwork himself and be put in harms way. Luckily he doesn't hold to much of a grudge towards Mikoto and is happy at the end when Mikoto gives it his all in the match. It was also nice to see drunk Mikoto apologizes to Azuma.

WAIT A DAMN MINUTE, SO TATSU AND MIKOTO ALREADY MET BEFORE??? WHEN MIKOTO WAS A KID??? how much is their age gap? 10 years? holy shit, it still amazes me how young Mikoto is, he's only 20.
I thought Tachibana was gonna be some kind of antagonist but turns out he's very fond of Mikoto and admires him even after what happened at their last game. And Mikoto was being so apologetic and worried while he didn't even have to be that way. This is a lesson for life y'guys: don't overthink too much and always talk things through with your friends.
I didn't think we would see drunk Mikoto so soon, I'm glad we did tho. Also, the other team seems nice, I loved their interactions. Great episode!

Just when Mikoto gets over his stupid jumping drama, the post-credits sets up the next drama point. This show is starting to irk me.

So the drama with his jumping was settled rather quickly, as it should be. Glad they didn't drag BS out. Seems like they won't be able to play with each other much longer, going by the post credit scene.

ohh im glad azuma's story didn't have any jealousy in it. that last point match where it was just a few seconds of pure badminton sounds were nice. i loved the after party, mikoto pouring everything out as he's drunk is just a fast way to end this drama bit but whatever it was cute

after credits scene !! so its confirmed that the kid was mikoto๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

Pretty good episode! Glad Mikoto was able to get over his trauma rather early, he had some really cool smashes this episode. Also, after seeing Azuma's POV, their backstory feels much better.

That post-credit scene feels very foreboding though.

I really like this episode! Azuma is a strong and nice lad. He got injured but he recovered. I'm so happy that Mikoto told him what he felt even if he's dead drunk lol. Love the friendship. I hope Azuma will be in next episodes

TATSU’S SWEET ASS AGAIN. More pls

Omg Mikoto’s drunk crying face uwu. So precious. I’m so glad he’s ready to move on now. He’s a precious baby.

Azuma too. Starting afresh at Tomari with his new ai bo. I really liked the scene outside the restaurant where they were just being honest & communicating with each other. Azuma has his own growth too & he now knows he needs to better communicate with others.

I think it is pretty good, most of the negative comments are nitpicky or elitists. This is the first sports anime I have watched, and it has kept me engaged the whole time. The characters are solid, and the plot is simple. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece but its great at what it is trying to be. If you want a more casual anime to watch this season, I would recommend this.

I'm glad that Mikoto is finally emerging from his shell at last. It took a combination of Azuma's verbal criticism, Tatsuru's headbutt and Mikoto's inner battle with himself to finally play at his best and it showed on the court as both sides were going at it all the way to the end, which was won by Mikoto finally jumping for a smash shot to win the game for him and Tatsuru.

The little get together with both sides at the restaurant afterwards had Mikoto, already drunk, tearfully apologising to Azuma for everything before he fell asleep. He certainly can't handle his alcohol just yet, huh? XD

The post-credit scene was interesting, though. Once again, it showed a flashback of Tatsuru and a younger Mikoto playing badminton at the park, before resuming to the present where Tatsuru's word could be implied that he might retire at some point. I could be over-theorising this, but it's something I don't want to rule out just yet.

Either way, this episode was great. I'm still liking the smooth animation during the matches, which was great throughout this episode.

A pretty good episode. Mikoto finally was able to overcome his fears but we'll see if he can keep going like that and in the end, he was able to confess how he feels about this whole situation while being drunk. LOL

In the post credit scene, Miyazumi said "saigo ni", which can mean "finally", but it kind of sounds like he's trying to quit, and he's happy he got to team up with Mikoto before that.

A lot of stressful things are happening around me, and I am emotionally unstable at the moment, so I felt way more sad than I should be when Mikoto didn't kiss Tachibana after that confession! That confession could have been a bit more romantic, and done with only the two of them around, and when Mikoto was not intoxicated!!

Another great episode!

More Badminton in this episode and it didn't disappoint; It was really fun to watch. I love how the relationship of Mikoto with Azuma, his former Doubles Partner, is not one of rivalry, but rather one of two people who used to be close but went their own ways after interpreting an unfortunate past event differently. I also really love how Mikoto managed to overcome his trauma soon in the series. Really happy that it wasn't dragged along the entire season. Other new characters were very wholesome and felt more grounded, which was nice.

Overall, another great episode that managed to move the plot forward and be engaging.

it's cool that they had their reunion and cleared the air, and are both "healing" now from that past experience

the rally leading up to that final point was really nice. with no crowd noise and limited dialogue. just the rackets hitting the shuttlecock. i would love more scenes like that, maybe one or two per match. it was really sweet

as for the ending. he knew him as a young kid in the park? "before it ends"? i swear to god, if he's dying i'm going to hate this show

About time Shiratori took the leap! Glad that the jump backwards drama was resolved quickly as I personally think it's quite the silly and cliché miscommunication problem.

I see, so the accident was not Mikoto's fault. This is where Mikoto gets back to being his original self, unrestrained.

Tatsuru got Mikoto drunk to get a confession out of him, and Mikoto revealed his pent up emotions to Azuma.
