Emos were all the rage back in the mid 00's. Where did they all crawl off to? Did they grow up to be hipsters during the 2010's who later evolved further into normies in the current year? I guess they all underwent emotherapy smh

Some who were emo took on more of a nu-goth look when older I think others just went on to something else. Egirls and eboys are kinda the current succesor to the new similarish trend though that is a bit more scene like than emo.

I used to make AMVs too back when youtube allowed them. The first AMV I ever made used Linkin Park's Forgotten with clips from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha

So nostalgic! I used to love Yu-Gi-Oh

Here's the AMV I made. This was my first time using video editing software so it was a bit of an experiment. If you use headphones then I'm sorry because this only seems to play in mono. I don't know why but I must have clicked some wrong setting when I made it. So whoops! xD

uuuu I remember back in the good old days I used to discover new anime from watching AMVs

uuuu do you remember the bishonen memes? back before memes were even called memes? the pics of sexy anime boys with the word "bishonen" written in pokemon logo font for some reason? Fans would collect them and post them to their page as like some husbando harem, before husbando and waifu were even words to describe this.

I had my own geocities anime website where I just explained all the details about anime i liked, such as character bios and world building. remember before wikis, when actual fan sites were a thing? web 2.0 killed off this type of content, and while web 2.0 is technically better, I miss the more personal feel of receiving information from specific people adding their own flavor, as opposed to the robotic wikis we have now

No, but seriously, it depends on the context. There's sort of multiple subcultures of emo, the one that's still alive culturally is the emo rock genre that originated from post-punk and gothic rock bands like Joy Division. Anything punk that had depressing topics, really.

From there it evolved into emo, and depending on the person or group there'd be a cultural clash between something more "classic" emo (like the Minami song I posted), and the 2000's emo fashion scene. There's really no strict meaning on what emo is, besides it being anything emotional, but that's the basic history behind the term everyone now uses.

That said, it seems to me like the bishounen pokemon text meme has become a lost meme, just like lost media.

There's really no strict meaning on what emo is, besides it being anything emotional, but that's the basic history behind the term everyone now uses.

From what I was told and read Emo is a genre. The longer name is Emotive Hardcore rather than Emotional Hardcore though I see people argue about this. It came from Post-Hardcore rather than Post-Punk though Post-Hardcore was influenced by Post-Punk so fair enough. You're first I've seen claim Gothic Rock had anything to do with it. It probably had an influence but that was a different scene as far as I am aware but I wouldnt know since I never was a part of any music scenes. The harsher vocals offshoot of Emo was called Skramz later called Screamo. Which often may have spoken word in a song along with the screamed vocals. Though there is also more niche subgenres like Emo Violence etc which I know less about. Emo, Screamo and Post-Hardcore sound different from how they used to I think though. Especially with Post-Hardcore since I dont think anyone's comparing bands like Pierce the Veil and Fugazi.

Though yes the emo fashion seems disjointed from the Emo genre so I don't know the origins of that or how the term emo became so misused when describing bands aside from usual music media blunders.

lol I can't even find any of the original bishonen memes with the pokemon font text. i remember ones featuring boys from final fantasy and inuyasha. we loved boys with big swords!

Haha I remember them and have even considered putting them on my MAL sig as a joke. They were called Pocket Bishonen

https://fanlore.org/wiki/Pocket_Bishonen!#:~:text=Pocket%20Bishonen!%20was%20a%20Pok%C3%A9mon,users%20to%20%22capture%22%20bishonen.&text=While%20the%20site%20used%20Pok%C3%A9mon,limited%20to%20the%20Pok%C3%A9mon%20fandom.

You can still find them if you google "Pocket Bishonen", apparently someone even made a revival of them.

omg you found them! I was starting to think the pocket bishonen was a fever dream lol. I now recall the pocket bishojo as well. with how waifu/husbando culture has become prevalent, it would be fun to bring them back.

They must have moved to the average citizen lifestyle and that I don't know. No one wants to live such a depressing lifestyle anymore and slit over wrists as a way of killing time.

I've always preferred being a punk rock type of guy, because I question baseless authority all the time.

Like the Spanish Inquisition, I never expected to see a Windows Movie Maker slideshow with Kelly Clarkson.

They're still around, these days its e-girls and e-boys from the shithole known as tiktok and twitter and both sites are a plague to be avoided like the rona.

TWEWY is peak emo edge and persona 3 back in the day was also peak emo too and i'm still waiting for a full anime of breaking the habit by linkin park to this day.
